...that isn’t covered by takeaways that deliver (or Just Eat etc? I love living here but god I would kill for some readymade dinner right now.

Lighthearted, obv. DH is away on a work trip, 8 month old DD just gone to bed and the kitchen looks like a bomb’s gone off from my (failed) attempts to create tempting and nutritious weaning recipes.

I swore I would never become one of those cringy real life mum memes that bangs on about having g&t for dinner but I think I’m heading that way.

Seriously considering bribing next door’s teenager to go to the chippy for me Blush...

You need to stock your freezer with delicious food for one (I recommend cook, Charlie Bighams pies or M&S ready meals) for just such an occasion.
Then you don’t even need to dial....
Bribe the teenager I would.
And you aren’t remote if you have a chippy a teenager can get to Envy

SweetPeaPods · 26/06/2019 19:56

I feel your pain! I am so tired this evening, still trying to get both dc down for the night and DH is at work. Would love to be able to phone for a take away! We love village life but do miss being able to get a just eat or dominos etc!

Grumpbum123 · 26/06/2019 19:57

Most of the village shops around here stock cook meals for this very purpose plus the weekly fish and chip van that visits

RogueV · 26/06/2019 19:57

Yes I feel your pain on the plus side not being able to have a take away at the drop of a hat has saved me a heck of a lot of calories

Houseonahill · 26/06/2019 19:58

Dominoes I miss dominoes so much.

Silversun83 · 26/06/2019 20:00

YANBU!!

I only found out that Dominoes didn't deliver to us on the night we moved in Shock Had I known beforehand.. well, that may have been a serious consideration as to whether we moved here Grin

I guess I am lucky in that we have a few that do deliver (though the best Indian has recently stopped delivering Sad).. But still, I haven't had a dominoes now for nearly two years.. Though I have heard a village rumour that if you ring up and say the magic words, they will deliver to a supermarket carpark halfway between us and them..

nomushrooms · 26/06/2019 20:00

My sister in London puts pictures of her eating takeaway Nandos, Wagamamas etc. AND she’s skinny (mind you, she’s also only 22).

We have one Indian that delivers, for a £6 fee, from the nearest small town. Somehow I’m fat 🤦🏽‍♀️

Dairymilkmuncher · 26/06/2019 20:02

Yeah we checked this before we moved here and they have two places that do home delivery with ace menus but now we live here the food is RANK! Always have freezer stuff in just in case

GET THE CHIPS

Silversun83 · 26/06/2019 20:03

Before we moved here, it hadn't even crossed my mind that Dominoes might not deliver... I thought they delivered to everywhere Blush

LarryGreysonsDoor · 26/06/2019 20:05

I’m the opposite.
I don’t think I had a takeaway delivered until I was about 25.
Having grown up in the country without them it simply didn’t occur to me to do it.

hen10 · 26/06/2019 20:06

Yes yes yes Houseonahill Dominoes. They even rub it in by dropping the fliers through, then when I rang up, they said "oh no, not that far out we don't."

TuckMyWin · 26/06/2019 20:08

The only delivery we can get is dominos. And we're right on the edge of the delivery area, the pizza is pretty manky by the time it gets to us, so we only bother now when desperate. I miss Chinese!

Beesandcheese · 26/06/2019 20:08

I moved from London to the middle of nowhere it would seem. I agree, a well stocked freezer is your long term solution. Though bribing a teenager is genius!

hen10 · 26/06/2019 20:08

Just seen all the other dominoes posts. This sort of information should be in the buyer's pack.

Chune · 26/06/2019 20:10

They should provide this sort of info on the Rightmove listings. Like they do with the energy ratings.

Jemima232 · 26/06/2019 20:12

Nobody delivers here.

We have a Bengali restaurant which closes out of season. it is wonderful when it's open, though.

Our chips shop doesn't have very good chips.

More annoying is the fact that none of the supermarkets deliver to us in this village. (Remote, think West Coast of Scotland.)

Nearest railway station is sixty miles away.

But am I glad we moved her, from London.

Hell yes.

Purpleartichoke · 26/06/2019 20:13

In our sleepy town the only thing we could get delivered was not so great pizza for the longest time. A few months ago one of the gig economy apps started serving our area. We only have like 10 choices of restaurant, but I order all the time. The other day dd was sick and wanted rice. We didn’t have any. I was actually able to get Chinese food delivered and get her the plain rice she craved.

S1naidSucks · 26/06/2019 20:14

Phone your local taxi driver and ask them to pick it up, then phone and order your food to be collected. Mind you, there are taxi drivers round here that will pick up from the offies for you. smug

Snowy81 · 26/06/2019 20:15

The ‘nice’ Indian close to us delivers for £3......... only if your order is over £50🤦‍♀️

Lycanthropology · 26/06/2019 20:18

Yep, deepest darkest rural Wales here, and nary a delivery service to be had.

I used to live in a big city and had vast choice of free delivery takeaways. And so cheap. I miss those days... but only when I’m feeling simultaneously hungry and lazy,

contentedsoul · 26/06/2019 20:19

Well, it's completely the opposite for me.
We live in what was once a beautiful village , until house builders began 20yrs ago. The village is now the gateway to massive housing estates, full of ten bobs and fucking takeaways.
I NEVER eat that shit!! I'd sooner scoop the remnants from the bottom of our wheelie bin than feast upon take-A-shitways.

PegLegAntoine · 26/06/2019 20:19

We used to live in the outskirts of town where nobody delivered. Now we’ve moved more central and have deliveroo etc at our fingertips.

My waistline and bank balance are really suffering for it!

I hoped the novelty might wear off but we’ve lived here nearly a year 😳

EarlGreyOfTwinings · 26/06/2019 20:22

To be honest, even when I lived in central London I didn't get take away delivered. Buy a huge freezer and stock it up. Problem solved!

SingingLily · 26/06/2019 20:28

The Indian restaurant in the next town delivers to our village. It has just two online reviews: the first says the food is disgusting so avoid; the other says yes but never mind that, the portions are HUGE so it's great. Hmm

There is a weekly fish and chip van here too. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't have an onboard loo. In fact, there is no sink at all. 🤔 Strangely enough, none of the locals use it. They leave that kind of risk taking to the tourists.

vdbfamily · 26/06/2019 20:31

We have a different problem in our rural village. There is a layby at the end of our lane. 2 days a week there is a kebab van, one day a fish and chip van and one day a pizza van. I have to try not to notice them after a long day!
