...that isn’t covered by takeaways that deliver (or Just Eat etc? I love living here but god I would kill for some readymade dinner right now.

Lighthearted, obv. DH is away on a work trip, 8 month old DD just gone to bed and the kitchen looks like a bomb’s gone off from my (failed) attempts to create tempting and nutritious weaning recipes.

I swore I would never become one of those cringy real life mum memes that bangs on about having g&t for dinner but I think I’m heading that way.

Seriously considering bribing next door’s teenager to go to the chippy for me Blush...

Its no secret we like our big freezers in the country
There is one awful Indian that delivers near here, and there used to be a pizza delivery, ahhhh I remember living in a city where the doormat was covered in menus.

BrillyPribble · 26/06/2019 21:59

Ahhhh PeoniesarePink our local pub now hosts a man with a land rover converted to have a pizza oven in the back once a week - it's such a treat! Like having real takeaway! 😄
pizza ovens in random vehicles are obviously the way forward.

RottnestFerry · 26/06/2019 22:00

Those of us who grew up with this, and having to get in a car just to go to/from the pub/cinema etc saw the light and headed for the metropolis as soon as we were able*

So did I, then beat a hasty retreat back to the sticks when the novelty (soon) wore off.

It does piss me off when the Deliveroo adverts say that they deliver everywhere though. They don't.

MonkeyTrap · 26/06/2019 22:01

I grew up like that, headed to the city and then retreated pretty quick!

FuckBrussel · 26/06/2019 22:05

Ah, well, y'see, we've cracked it - lovely little village, but there's an American airbase nearby, so the high street is 50% takeaways.

Yes, I'm fat.

BentNeckLady · 26/06/2019 22:06

Only on mumsnet could someone suggest a few walnuts and an apple as a viable alternative to take away food.

This place blows my mind sometimes.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 26/06/2019 22:10

We have 8 pubs, all of which serve food, and Indian and Chinese restaurants which also do take aways.

I question if somewhere with all of this qualifies as a village.

sackrifice · 26/06/2019 22:19

It is definitely a village.

We have a village hall. And ducks. And it's a conservation area.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 26/06/2019 22:21

YANBU!
Country living is not for me. A 20 mile round trip to a takeaway that's vastly inferior to 15 we had near us in S London. Our one saving grace is the amazing Gurkha restaurant in (not too) nearby Folkestone.

I never do ready meals. They are all horrid, whether from M and S or not. On the plus side, my Indian/Thai/most other things cooking has definitely gone up a notch. Instant curry round here is Spice Tailor - it works in an emergency, especially if you tweak it a bit.

justgivemewine · 26/06/2019 22:22

Our villlage has dominoes so we are happy. Grin

Newmumma83 · 26/06/2019 22:23

My husband loved our village has a Chinese , kebab shop , fish and chip shop and this Christmas we got a Indian that all deliver!!

He tells everyone ( it’s kinda embarrassing because it show how much we love our takeaways ... a little too much ) 😂😂

RosaWaiting · 26/06/2019 22:24

I live in London and can’t wait to leave
This is often the first thing that gets mentioned on threads about leaving

I literally don’t use these apps ever. Good thing I wasn’t in the food industry because I’m really surprised how popular they are.

I’m not much of a cook myself either! Freezer is full though.

RosaWaiting · 26/06/2019 22:25

Oh and the menus dropped through the door give me the rage!

PenguinsRabbits · 26/06/2019 22:27

In theory we have 3 Just Eat places that deliver. I tried one went through then came up sorry we've rejected your order and are now closed for the night. It was 5pm. Hmm

Dominos do deliver but it often says 15 mins then an hour later it says delivered then 15 mins after that it really appears.

We moved here from London and logged on to Just Eat and it said 83 places delivering in your area. And I thought wow 😱 then realised it had our old postcode. Don't miss anything else about London but did feel slightly tearful at that point.

PenguinsRabbits · 26/06/2019 22:29

We do have an excellent Chinese which also does fish and chips though, far better than our one in London.

PancakeAndKeith · 26/06/2019 22:34

I don’t think ducks are what constitutes a village. How many brownie packs? Any more that one, not a village.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 26/06/2019 22:36

I live a village and we have a chippie, pizza place and an indian takeaway. Also just eat deliver here. Choice is limited though. Dominos is only 4 miles so i can get them to deliver.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 26/06/2019 22:38

Our new village chippy does gravy that makes me weep with joy. I need to stop making once a week meals that require a "treat" of chips and gravy. Don't care about the chips, it's the gravy. I now know why I moved...

RosaWaiting · 26/06/2019 22:41

Ducks, conservation areas....I can’t wait!!

puppylovebaby · 26/06/2019 22:43

I'm in the same boat. ... although an amazing pizza van now comes
To the village once a week.

kateandme · 26/06/2019 22:46

can you pay the taxi to get it for you?

poppym12 · 26/06/2019 22:51

I feel very smug fortunate reading this. I live in the arse end of nowhere, there's a church and a pub but nothing else apart from fields. No shop, post office, nothing. However, the closest Dominos delivers here and is used very regularly by me and others in the village. I can do without Chinese, Indian, Thai etc but a life without takeaway pizza would be unbearable.

EssentialHummus · 26/06/2019 22:53

We have a village hall. And ducks. And it's a conservation area.

We have all this and I’m in Zone 2 of London. And there’s a jerk chicken place at the bottom of the road. I feel a Venn diagram coming on.

SingingLily · 26/06/2019 22:55

We have a village hall. And ducks. And it's a conservation area.

I'm getting a bit concerned now. There aren't any ducks in our village. Clearly we suffer from duck poverty. However, we do have a village library in a converted telephone box and an annual scarecrow competition. Will that do instead? 😁

RosaWaiting · 26/06/2019 22:58

Lily is it a real scarecrow competition or just two vicars?
