...that isn’t covered by takeaways that deliver (or Just Eat etc? I love living here but god I would kill for some readymade dinner right now.

Lighthearted, obv. DH is away on a work trip, 8 month old DD just gone to bed and the kitchen looks like a bomb’s gone off from my (failed) attempts to create tempting and nutritious weaning recipes.

I swore I would never become one of those cringy real life mum memes that bangs on about having g&t for dinner but I think I’m heading that way.

Seriously considering bribing next door’s teenager to go to the chippy for me Blush...

We live 6 miles from the nearest takeaway and to be honest, it's usually congealing by the time we get it home.... so we just don't bother. Then a couple of years ago a local pub got taken over and serves Nepalese food - so we get a takeaway once every couple of months but you still have to collect it. There is much excitement in the village about a pizza guy who has set up a horse box as a mobile pizza oven and he cooks one night a week about a mile up the road. Progress indeed but still no deliveries.............

LizzieSiddal · 26/06/2019 20:34

Agree .org others, stick your freezer up on lovely meals for one- Charlie Bigham’s and M&S Gastro Pub, are my favourite. I also have a bag of frozen chunky oven chips for emergencies. Grin

Troels · 26/06/2019 20:35

Our little village has a chippy that delivers.
You definitly need to plan ahead, get the freezer in the garage stocked. Ours is full or junk for days like this.

Laiste · 26/06/2019 20:38

20 mins at 60 mph to the nearest Domino/Maccie D, Kentucky/Pizza Hut here. sigh and i bloody do it every Saturday eve

It's pretty, but ..... YANBU OP!

dorisdog · 26/06/2019 20:40

Ha Ha Ha. I feel you. Apparently round my remote area the stoned teenagers phone the taxis to bring them microwavable Rustler Burgers from the Spa Grin...maybe make friends with the nearest taxi firm. They might pick you up some chips.

MindatWork · 26/06/2019 20:49

Update: I have had a jacket potato with cheese and beans and a g&t 👍🏻

I am Grin at some of these replies, especially my fellow dominoes-deprived mumsnetters - DH and I have actually considered buying one of the heated bags to keep the pizzas warm on the rare occasions we can be bothered to go and collect (don’t judge).

Its completely my fault for poor planning, DH reminded me to get a Cook meal but I just haven’t got round to it. I’m still getting used to not being able to pop out whenever I please in the evenings!

Iceland frozen curries are your friend here. (Actually Iceland in general tbh.)

EssentialHummus · 26/06/2019 21:08

DH and I have actually considered buying one of the heated bags

For proper commitment can I recommend a car with a bum warmer on the passenger seat.

floraloctopus · 26/06/2019 21:10

If it's any consolation we don't even have a fish and chip shop.

sackrifice · 26/06/2019 21:29

Just pick the right village.

We have 8 pubs, all of which serve food, and Indian and Chinese restaurants which also do take aways.

SingingLily · 26/06/2019 21:30

You can have our chip van, flotaloctopus. The villagers won't mind.

cordeliavorkosigan · 26/06/2019 21:30

g&t, big handful of walnuts /almonds, apple : perfectly decent dinner at a time like this.

Lovemusic33 · 26/06/2019 21:31

It’s probably the one thing that annoys me about living in a village, I’m not far from a small town but they will not deliver to me (I’m slightly out of their delivery area). On the other hand....I would probably be obese if I lived in a city 🤣

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 26/06/2019 21:31

Bribe the teenager I would.

I'm really sorry - I don't mean to be frivolous. But a little image of Yoda popped into my head when I read this!

Meejool · 26/06/2019 21:36

I don't have any takeaways near me but I still crave them even though its been years! I have a freezer full of takeaway type meals, pizzas, garlic breads, oven chips, curly fries etc for when the mood takes.
When I go down to civilisation, Inverness GrinWink every couple of months, I normally have a subway for lunch and a pizza hut for tea to get my junk craving on!

Jeremybearimybaby · 26/06/2019 21:38

@Meejool I suspect we're in a similar place Grin 6 hour ferry to get a golden arches?? Wink

FuzzyPuffling · 26/06/2019 21:38

Our village has a fish and chip van that parks up.in the village square once a week for an hour. Fabulous!

CollyWobbleNightmares · 26/06/2019 21:42

We can get shit Chinese or shit Indian and they are always incredibly late and get lost every sodding time. We’re miles from them anyway and have no idea why either deliver to our tiny out of the way village. I would kill for a good pizza or even just a quality curry or Chinese! It’s the only reason I miss living in the city.

MindatWork · 26/06/2019 21:42

YY to fish and chip van (we’re lucky to have a v good chippy in the village) but do they come to your door?

Not much help if you’re home alone with a baby asleep upstairs 😩

YoThePussy · 26/06/2019 21:49

Stock up on Cook meals OP, you know it makes sense. I am lying in bed with a distended stomach full of Cook basil and mascarpone chicken. Delicious!

All this talk of village fish and chip vans makes me yen to have a holiday in Antigua again. They have Chippy Antigua, a van in a lay-by serving fresh caught prawns, fish, and other lovely things. Many happy meals there sun burn a blaze scoffing fish and chips.

cheesemongery · 26/06/2019 21:51

Haha I felt your pain when living in a village - the Chinese van on a Friday ... ohhh my worrrd....

Paying £9 for a bottle of wine from the pub because the shop shut at 6.

I didn't have a car then.
Ah the shit old days Grin. Lovely view though.

cheesemongery · 26/06/2019 21:52

Not much help if you’re home alone with a baby asleep upstairs

You have to plan baby's sleep around the chippy van. It's the only way.

NormHonal · 26/06/2019 21:53

Ha! I'm with @LarryGreysonsDoor. Those of us who grew up with this, and having to get in a car just to go to/from the pub/cinema etc saw the light and headed for the metropolis* as soon as we were able.

*suburbs. But they do deliver food here. And I can just-about walk home from the pub.

Cath2907 · 26/06/2019 21:57

The only place delivering to my village is a kebab/pizza joint. I want Chinese! I want Indian! Ready meals are just not the same thing. I love living here apart from takeaway food issues. Some evenings I dream of driving the 30 min to the nearest Chinese and eating in the car (can’t leave kid and dog at home alone though).

MonkeyTrap · 26/06/2019 21:58

I moved from city centre where everything was on my doorstep, alsorts of cuisines from all over. Now I can’t get anything. I often think when DH is working away that I’ll treat myself to a takeaway. I never do as getting DS into the car to get it seems too much of a faff (he’s only 3 months old!!)
