Basic manners says you acknowledge when someone does something that helps you. It takes no effort to do a little way.

teyem · 25/06/2019 18:45

Yes, I raise my hand or nod thanks. When I'm in a car and stop for pedestrians and they wave thanks I wave "you're welcome".

It's just fucking rude not to.

SoupDragon · 25/06/2019 18:45

Are you not in the U.K.? Not at all hot here

It's ridiculously humid and stuffy here (or was earlier, it's not so bad now)

IsadoraQuagmire · 25/06/2019 18:46

Yes of course, always.

RedSheep73 · 25/06/2019 18:46

Quick wave or nod if hands full if they've stopped to let me across the road, but not if it's a zebra crossing - that doesn't merit a thankyou in my book, they're only doing what they have to!

BackforGood · 25/06/2019 18:47

Of course, always, but then I was brought up with the outlook of why wouldn't you do a tiny thing if it makes the day that bit more pleasant for someone.

This was all done to death on a thread a couple of weeks ago, if you want to search.

DontPressSendTooSoon · 25/06/2019 18:47

Yes, I do the 'slow hand raise'.

Bayleaf25 · 25/06/2019 18:47

Always. YABU. Sorry.

ZenNudist · 25/06/2019 18:48

I either raise a hand or nod my head and smile in their direction. I dont expect it back. I just feel better saying thanks on e.g. a zebra crossing where stopping is 'optional'.

adaline · 25/06/2019 18:49

I always say thank you - it's just politeness/habit.

I don't understand why you wouldn't unless your hands are full - but even then, a quick nod of the head would do!

notacooldad · 25/06/2019 18:49

it is muggy and uncomfortable here
Dp was saying it was muggy earlier and had a weather headache. I've been fine and didn't notice!

fussychica · 25/06/2019 18:50

Quick hand raise / nod here - always.
Quick and easy, it's not like you have to speak to anyone.

Wtfdoipick · 25/06/2019 18:53

At a zebra crossing no I don't, cars are obliged to stop same as I'm obliged to stop and wait if it's not a crossing, cars don't wave and thank me for doing what I should so why should I in the opposite situation? ( ok I used to but I have a dog in one hand and a child in the other so no hand free to wave)

EleanorReally · 25/06/2019 18:57

actually this reminds me i waved to thank a car, as a fellow driver, the other day, and got shouted out! obviously he missed my wave.

aggro in drivers is increasing

Oh, I dont know, but I'd say it's nice to be nice!!
It does no harm and I often get a smile and a wave back.
Puts a spring in my step!!

notacooldad · 25/06/2019 18:58

aggro in drivers is increasing
I would agree with you on that!!

EleanorReally · 25/06/2019 19:00

oh, but I dont want to search, I want to start a new thread
almost every thread is a repeat of some form or other.

Always, i either nod or wave and say "thank you" it's only good manners .

Bagadverts · 25/06/2019 19:01

Not at lights. Sometimes on a zebra crossing. I’m disabled so often concentrating on the road as it is often uneven. I do get annoyed then if the driver drives behind me after I get to half way. It’s very disconcerting as I can’t see that they are moving.

Always wave if I do cross in other places.

Moonflower12 · 25/06/2019 19:03

@Junowhat

Is it a town in Warwickshire?

Teacakeandalatte · 25/06/2019 19:08

I wave and do the funny fast walk to show I am trying not to hold them up. But I don't like it when they do an impatient gesture waving me across Angry

TapasForTwo · 25/06/2019 19:08

"it is muggy and uncomfortable here"

It has been 13 degrees and pissing down all day in Yorkshire. I am still in winter clothes Sad

I always wave to other drivers to thank them if they let me in when I am driving. Actually, it is more commonplace where I live to put your hazards on to do this, but I do a lot of motorway/dual carriageway driving.

Teacakeandalatte · 25/06/2019 19:11

It was 23 today and super muggy in the SE. Little kids at school were dropping like flies and had to lie down.

Thurmanmurman · 25/06/2019 19:16

Yes a would always wave or nod thanks. If I’m driving and a pedestrian doesn’t thank me I call them a dick under my breath but would never yell from the car!

Mamadothehump · 25/06/2019 19:17

Always "say" thank you - either by gesture or mouthing it. As do my children, 12, 10 and 8. It's basic manners.
