Parents want inheritance back

Ten years ago, my parents decided to gift me and my brother 100k each as early inheritance within the 7 year period.

With that I bought a house (with a mortgage). Still have 15 years left on the mortgage.

Now our parents want the inheritance back because they have decided they want to buy a summer home abroad.

DB is in a position to be able to as he’s well off.
However I am not and I’m barely able to keep up with the mortgage payments as it is.

In order to give back the money I’d need to sell. My parents are aware of this and have said that if I need help to pay rent, they’ll give it to me. But they want the lump sum in order to buy their holiday home.

AIBU to not give it to them?

It's Halloween - the Zombies have been woken....................

Are you a tax haven? No? Then don't give it back.

Instatwat · 31/10/2019 14:01

If everyone would just RTFT they’d realise this is a zombie thread rather than posting all the same responses as everyone else did 5 months ago Halloween Angry

What a cheek, giving you money with one hand and taking it back with the next - for a holiday home of all things! Hardly essential.

That is just plain wrong. Even though your brother is financially better off I honestly think he should stand in solidarity with you and not return the money which was a gift.

How your parents can even think of you selling your home in order to accommodate their extravagance is beyond me.

Please do not give them anything!

Wine for medicinal purposes.

Oh thanks Instatwat :-). Just read your post - too late. I never, ever notice dates.

Ah well, never mind.

Ferretyone · 31/10/2019 14:33

Oh dear. I do hope that there was some paperwork at the time of the gift stating that it was a gift [through a solicitor for example]

Why do those posting ZOMBIE THREAD give a fuck people are posting on a ZOMBIE THREAD?

People can post on whatever they like without the Zombie police academy arriving can't they?

Oneborneverydecade · 31/10/2019 16:05

frogs because even if the OP still needed the advice they're unlikely to be around to read it 🤷🏻‍♀️

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/10/2019 16:18

@FrogsAreMean mainly because thrads with a point a question, usually require back and forth between the OP and respondents.

Posters expcting the OP to come back and updat ethem will probably be disappointed.

And I like the song and the golden image...
