To think people shouldn't leave their rubbish in the cinema?

Went to the cinema last night and on our row alone, near enough every single seat had a popcorn box or drink left behind. There is a bin outside of the screen. There is literally no need to be this lazy. Even my 5 and 7 year old picked up their popcorn boxes without having to be told.

Ours tells you to!

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/06/2019 14:13

I don’t understand why people can’t sit for 2 hours without trouging a 3 course meal!

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 14:13

Really?! That's so strange. Why don't they just provide a bin?

Ours always seems shocked we clean up after ourselves. To be honest I have started taking my 4 on my own and while they habitually clean up their own rubbish, we can't always manage to grab the booster seats too, so I leave them. If my husband is with me though we take it all.

Lougle · 22/06/2019 14:16

I was at the cinema last month and the lady told me to leave my rubbish when I started to pick it up.

CalmFizz · 22/06/2019 14:17

The cinema actually tells you to leave your rubbish in your seats.

Certain packaging can be recycled, however if you put it into the general waste bins none of it will be recycled.

Totally agree!!

You're supposed to leave them.

LemonRedwood · 22/06/2019 14:19

Our nearest multi-screen cinema also tells you to leave rubbish.

In our local one, we always get cheese and biscuits and a bottle of wine so I'm not sure they'd be that impressed if I tried to walk away with the plates and glasses Grin

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/06/2019 14:24

Yabu my friend works in a cinema they want you to leave rubbish so some can be recycled. Also she wouldn’t have a job if cleaning up was much faster.
Not everything is black and white op , give things a little bit of thought.

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 14:25

Ours was a Vue cinema. I didn't see any signs or anything telling us to leave the rubbish but maybe I just missed them then?

OP posts:
CalmFizz · 22/06/2019 14:26

They put it in the trailers/adverts before the film starts I think last time I was at the vue, it could be missed which is why I guess they provide the bins.

Fluffy40 · 22/06/2019 14:27

I didn’t know wine was allowed. 😉

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 14:27

DD is a multiplex cinema manager.

They prefer you to leave your crap so that they can recycle it.

Bear in mind that if only half the customers cleared up, the staff would still have to do it anyway.

A box of popcorn is hardly a three course meal, let's not be ridiculous.

But YANBU, people should clear up after themselves (unless the cinema specifically says not to for recycling purposes).

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 14:28

Wine isn't allowed.

Jemima232 · 22/06/2019 14:29

I mean, nothing is allowed which you don't bring in yourself which is why cinemas make so much money on their overpriced crap

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 14:30

They definitely didn't say in the adverts either. There is a normal bin and a recycling bin outside the screens. Maybe I am wrong but I definitely wasn't made aware that we were supposed to leave the rubbish.

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 14:31

Okay fair enough, I obviously ABU but it feels so wrong to just leave your rubbish!

mydogisthebest · 22/06/2019 14:33

They definitely don't tell customers at our local cinema to leave their rubbish behind.

Me and DH don't usually have anything to eat or drink when we go (don't see why people feel the need to but still) but if we did would definitely take our rubbish out with us.

Just about everywhere you go people leave their rubbish behind - cinema, theatre, concerts, parks, beaches. It's disgusting and the most disgusting of all is the mess left behind after a music festival.

crustycrab · 22/06/2019 14:36

You're meant to leave it there, it's recycled that way. As soon as the film finishes one of the duties for the staff is to go up and down the rows collecting and separating the rubbish. It's in no way disgusting or comparable to leaving your picnic rubbish on a beach

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 14:36

mydogisthebest DH and I don't eat but the DC do get a small box of popcorn each. But your so right about people leaving rubbish. I just don't get it. It's really not hard to clean up after yourself.

On beaches and at festivals I mean.
