To think people shouldn't leave their rubbish in the cinema?

Went to the cinema last night and on our row alone, near enough every single seat had a popcorn box or drink left behind. There is a bin outside of the screen. There is literally no need to be this lazy. Even my 5 and 7 year old picked up their popcorn boxes without having to be told.

Ours is a Vue and they tell you to please leave your rubbish by your seat so that they can recycle it.

crustycrab · 22/06/2019 14:42

People who leave rubbish on beaches etc are the worst

Owlish · 22/06/2019 14:44

Our local cinema (Vue) also has notices telling you to leave your rubbish.

MediocreOmens · 22/06/2019 15:16

Ours is a Vue and we are definitely told to leave it so they can recycle.

BigRedLondonBus · 22/06/2019 15:24

Lol bet you’re feeling silly now . I’ve never seen anyone taking their rubbish out of the Cinema. Everyone just leaves it there.

MumbleLumble · 22/06/2019 15:35

No I don't feel silly. I asked if iwbu. And I've admitted I was.

PoorAnnie · 22/06/2019 15:52

I don't see why the OP should feel silly; I never expect anyone else to clear up my rubbish so would always take it myself and put it in a bin.

I was at the cinema last week and lots of people left their rubbish. I think that's fine if the cinema ask you to. But I was really shocked at the mess. In the row in front of me as well as the popcorn boxes, crisp packets etc there was coke and popcorn all over the floor and rubbish strewn everywhere. I don't know how people can do that and expect others to clean up after them.

OldUnit · 22/06/2019 16:03

'I bet you feel silly now'

Grow up. Hmm

I didn't know either, and frankly, I was raised better than to leave my rubbish for someone else to deal with.

OP-you WNBU for not knowing, first I've heard too.

BarbedBloom · 22/06/2019 16:03

There are actually no bins in the back bit of the cinema, only one by the ticket machine so in ours you would have people possibly dropping bits of popcorn everywhere so our cinema says to leave on the floor

skybluee · 22/06/2019 16:07

unfortunately it sends out a bit of a bad message or pattern because if people think leaving rubbish is ok they might start doing it elsewhere.

i utterly hate it when people leave crap all over the table at McDonalds. i mean at least put all of it on the tray if nothing else. i can't understand why people make so much mess, it takes so little to keep it tidy and just to put it in the bin instead of getting sauce everywhere, bits of paper, rubbish all over the table for the staff to clean up. why?

AshQ · 22/06/2019 16:07

I always used to bin mine but was recently told to leave it by staff. I leave it tidy though.

BrilliantYou · 22/06/2019 16:12

Agree but it's not just at the cinema, it's people in general expecting others to pick up after them! Even when my children were babies/toddlers and dropped food on the floor, I always picked it up. It always makes me wonder what other people's houses are like Hmm

JoyceJeffries · 22/06/2019 16:16

The prices they charge it should really be some sort of butler service.

LemonRedwood · 22/06/2019 16:20

@Fluffy40 Not allowed to bring your own but they sell it. You also sit in a nice big squashy armchair and have a little table. It's not a Vue 😂

Theyellowsquare · 22/06/2019 16:20

I can have wine (at a reasonable price) in my local cinema and the tickets are only £3. Unfortunately I don't usually like watching films so I can't take full advantage x

MadCap · 22/06/2019 16:27

Vue allows you to bring your own food. I'm pretty sure anyways. We always do and don't make an effort to hide it.

Rowennaravenclaw · 22/06/2019 16:29

Why not just have a recycling bin?Confused

MrsBobBlackadder · 22/06/2019 16:30

Our nearest Odeon sells bottles of wine and beer. Is marvellous!

They also ask you to leave rubbish so it can be recycled.

AnneElliott · 22/06/2019 16:32

I don't think the op is silly - I always remove my rubbish. I have never seen a sign telling me not to do this either.

And I agree with the pp about the number of adults that can't sit through a 2 hr film without lots of food, drink and trips to the toilet! I often wonder why they pay cinema prices but miss parts of the film!!!

I8toys · 22/06/2019 16:35

I hadn't been to the cinema for ages and my kids go all the time. Went recently and started tidying up and the kids said no you don't do it anymore. However it goes against my nature. I know its to do with recycling etc but its bad to teach kids just to leave their stuff lying around for others to pick up. I still took my rubbish out with me. They should provide recycling bins for us to use.

CynsterBitch · 22/06/2019 16:37

Both our local Odeon and Vue have notices up asking for the rubbish to be left in place

definitelyshouldknowbetter · 22/06/2019 16:39

I know what you mean OP, I feel awful doing it but ours specifically tells you at the beginning of the film to leave rubbish so it can be recycled.

ImaginaryFoe · 22/06/2019 16:51

Cleaning up at the cinema, bussing tables at McDonalds, using self check-out at the shops... All excellent ways for thoughtlessly obliging customers to enable companies to eliminate service jobs and leave the people who used to do them without the means to support themselves. Don't do it.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/06/2019 17:00

Why would the OP feel silly??

Until maybe 6 months ago i would have agreed with her indeed like her cinema my cinema had a waste bin right on the way out of the screens. And an advert reminding people to take their rubbish woth them. I was kind of suprised last time i went to see all the notices saying please leave your rubbish in your seats we'll sort it and recycle it.

So actally the OP was correct, she didnt realise tje cinemas prefeance had changed.

I bet you feel silly now lol bigredlondonbus and as for never seeing people clear up after themselves thats rude And says far more about you than it does OP or the rest of us!

Why not just have a recycling bin?

I think roweena because a lot of people see a recycling bin as the same as a general waste bin and stick.even non recyclevles in. Or they'll put stuff that is recyclable in the general waste bin just cos either they don't care or they don't know its recyclabe because it might not be recyclable in domestic collections. But cinemas will use commecial collectors who may have access to more kinds of recycling.

For instance in my previous job we were looking at our waste and recycling collection contracts and one offered the oppunity to recycle those terapak cartons (you know the ones with the foil lining) the one that we were using did not, where as the one that we were using said some different types of plastic bottles were recycleable that the other company did not recycle.

Also different companies want things sorted in different ways. All paper and card might go in one bag or their might be a paper and card bag and a soiled paper and card bag (ie card thats been used to serve food) or plastic bottles might go in one bag but their lids go in another.

Once its all gone in to the same bin you might as well just put it in general waste because you cant sort through it.

Blumtre231 · 22/06/2019 17:54

I used to work in a cinema and I used to have to regularly pick up piles of kfc chicken bones that people had discarded onto the floor... so disgusting
