To think people shouldn't leave their rubbish in the cinema?

Went to the cinema last night and on our row alone, near enough every single seat had a popcorn box or drink left behind. There is a bin outside of the screen. There is literally no need to be this lazy. Even my 5 and 7 year old picked up their popcorn boxes without having to be told.

OP posts:
Yabbers · 22/06/2019 18:00

Ours tells you to!
Still wouldn’t. Why would you?

SerenDippitty · 22/06/2019 18:02

I couldn’t agree more. Once got some sort of horrible barbecue sauce all over my bag as someone had left a food tray under the seat.

Singletomingle · 22/06/2019 18:09

I used to clear up, but I've noticed recently you are told to leave your rubbish.

MsMarvellous · 22/06/2019 18:09

Ours specifically asks you to as they sort it into recycling and it's easier for them to do it than have multiple bins

Bumply · 22/06/2019 18:26

Scotland brought in new rules in 2014for how businesses should do their recycling.
They get fined if rubbish is in the wrong recycling box, so that may be why my cinema tells you to leave the rubbish for them to sort correctly.

Mrsjayy · 22/06/2019 18:28

Our vue tells us to leave our rubbish behind it is in the adverts .

crustycrab · 22/06/2019 18:35

@Yabbers because if you put it in the bin in the foyer as OP originally suggested then it doesn't get recycled. If you leave it as asked to then it does

britnay · 22/06/2019 19:08

Our local cinema is very civilized; you can get tea/coffee in proper china cups :D

TheInvestigator · 22/06/2019 19:11

My local is a vue cinema and they have signs asking you to leave your rubbish so they can recycle, and I've been in there with when they've started clearing up; they were emptying the leftover popcorn/food into one bag and putting the card packaging into another so I guess they do recycle.

malmi · 22/06/2019 19:15

Can't believe people think it's acceptable to leave their rubbish in the cinema's bin instead of taking it home and putting it in their own bin.

Yabbers · 22/06/2019 21:12

@crustycrab but you can take it home.

Laurajjj · 22/06/2019 21:17

People seem to feel they can behave like slobs in cinemas. Sure dropped bits of popcorn can't be helped but just leave empty cartons on the floor after is incredibly lazy.

TheDarkPassenger · 22/06/2019 21:21

Our vue also says leave it!

Passthecherrycoke · 22/06/2019 21:23

“I don’t understand why people can’t sit for 2 hours without trouging a 3 course meal!”

I don’t get this- what’s to understand? Of course they can sit without “trouging a 3 course meal” (funny way to describe a box of popcorn and some winegumsHmm) but maybe they want to eat whilst they watch the film. What’s the problem? Why do you need to understand it?

Livelovebehappy · 22/06/2019 21:56

A visit to the cinema always seems to bring out the worst in some people. Talking loudly, not turning mobiles off, kicking the backs of seats, leaving rubbish and just generally inconsiderate behaviour.

crustycrab · 22/06/2019 22:11

Yeah could take it home. But when the cinema is recycling it anyway and specifically asks you to leave it for that purpose, filling the need for more staff, why on earth would you?

If everybody takes it home then 15/30 minutes of work will be unnecessary for cinema staff and before you know it there will be yet more job losses.

crustycrab · 22/06/2019 22:12

Should read 15/30 minutes of work after every single film showing.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/06/2019 22:17

And yabbers its likely to be commecial recycle companies that have access to more recycling facilities

So you take it home and have to put it general waste- land fill. Leave it at the cinema - creating a job (odd arguement but very true) and where it stands more chance of going to a recyling plant that can handle it. Why would you take it home??

Benes · 22/06/2019 22:18

Our cinema sells wine....you get given it in a plastic carafe!!

Popcorn and a drink is hardly a 3 course meal 🙄

Benes · 22/06/2019 22:21

Oh and you absolutely are fine to bring your own food and drink.

Hahaha88 · 22/06/2019 22:21

It's a misconception that you can't take your own food into a cinema pp, you very much can.

I think it's great that they are asking people to leave it for recycling purposes. And it's not exactly hard to teach a child why it's left there and that it's not ok to leave it other places such as the park, beach etc

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/06/2019 22:21

I do wish some of the posters still slamming people for leaving rubbish in their seats would read the thread as its been explained plenty that cinemas are actually asking people to do so.

They don't want you to take it home where it cant be recycled (yabbers)
It isn't bringing out the worst (livelove)
People aren't being lazy (laura) they are doing what the cinema are asking them to do.

Leave the rubbish in seats/on the floor

Hahaha88 · 22/06/2019 22:22

Popcorn and a drink is hardly a 3 course meal tell that to cinemas, they charge as much for it as a three course meal 😆

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/06/2019 22:25

beanes and hahaha i think the you can't bring your own is specically about alochol rather than food and drink generally.

Cinemas are leicenced to sell it but not to allow it to be brought in from else wear.

Food and all other drinks then sure take your own

Vinorosso74 · 22/06/2019 22:32

If we go to a Vue I've noticed they ask you leave it behind for recycling purposes.Local Odeon doesn't but some people leave their rubbish behind.
Chicken bones in the cinema is grim. Acceptable cinema food is popcorn, chocolate, sweets, ice cream. And no chomping especially if you're sitting near me.
