To think people shouldn't leave their rubbish in the cinema?

Went to the cinema last night and on our row alone, near enough every single seat had a popcorn box or drink left behind. There is a bin outside of the screen. There is literally no need to be this lazy. Even my 5 and 7 year old picked up their popcorn boxes without having to be told.

It’s part of the reason why we hardly ever go to cinemas anymore. Apart from the feral and inconsiderate behaviour of some other people, I feel ripped off by both the film prices and the food. The experience just isn’t what it used to be. When I was a kid in the mid 80s we went to the cinema every other Saturday afternoon using our pocket money. It was so popular you had to queue out the main door and down the side of the building outside. The auditorium was full. And no, most people didn’t chomp and rustle all the way through the film.

Now you go and it’s half empty on a Saturday afternoon apart from families that seem to have no manners or thought for others. So we stay away and Sky gets our money instead. I know loads of families who feel the same as us.

I don’t get this- what’s to understand? Of course they can sit without “trouging a 3 course meal”
You clearly havent sat in the row behind someone who once took in a Chinese takeaway with prawn crackers! Ok may be not 3 courses but they had a decent meal!🤣🤣🤣

BummyKnocker · 22/06/2019 23:24

A bit off topic but I don't know why going to the cinema = eat drink and make as much noise as possible, no wonder they have to turn up the sounds to drown out all the munching and rustling. Confused

Jemimapuddleduckpancake · 23/06/2019 04:24

In ours, staff come in to start picking up before everyone leaves and if you have stuff in your hand they just take it.

The amount we have to pay, so they should!

It's inside a room, it's not comparable to littering.

mydogisthebest · 23/06/2019 09:39

Me and DH went to the cinema last night. There were definitely no notices saying to leave rubbish behind - I looked all round the foyer, along the corridor and in the screen we were in. Nor were there any ads saying that either.

When the film ended a young guy came in with one black rubbish sack and started putting everything in it. So definitely no special recycling going on there!

Of course there were food and drink containers all over the floor because people are just far too lazy and entitled to sort them out themselves

Amanduh · 23/06/2019 09:41

Ours tells you specifically to leave it

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 23/06/2019 09:43

The 2 cinemas we visit regularly both have signs up saying please leave your rubbish so they can recycle it. Both are Vue ones.

freshcottoncandles · 23/06/2019 09:46

I’ve worked in many cinemas for many years. None I’ve worked in have ever done recycling with the rubbish left in screens and it makes me very angry. If there is no sign asking you to leave your rubbish it is likely that people don’t recycle, in which case I agree with you 100% OP. Sometimes you get around FIVE minutes to clean a screen of 200 people by yourself who have all left boxes and drinks and sauce sachets and Mcdonald’s wrappers and kicked popcorn all over the floor..,

I could go on forever but I won’t bore you all Grin

hazell42 · 23/06/2019 10:20

Our cinema asks you to leave it. As pp said they know what they can recycle, and they want you to get out quickly
There is usually a staff member at the door holding a selection of bin bags as the film finishes in my odeon.
So yabu for assuming that we are all lazy and you are somehow superior

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/06/2019 12:51

Wine isn't allowed
Is it at the Curzon (this obviously has no bearing on why I now only go to the Curzon Grin). Though apparently this morning’s ten am showing of Toy Story 4 was a little too early for wine, according to DHHmm.....Grin

Angel2702 · 23/06/2019 16:45

We’ve always been told to leave it as the tiny bins outside aren’t large enough for the amount of rubbish coming out of the multiple screens.

Shootingstar1115 · 23/06/2019 17:26

Really winds me up! It really takes no effort to put it in the bin to make the cleaners job a little easier!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 23/06/2019 17:38

shootingstar two things read the thread! In some cinemas people are being asked to leave it in there seats. What winds a lot of people is not recycling stuff that could be recycled.

Secondly. I really don't get your save the cleaners a job. Yes great lets all save people doing their jobs so theres no need to employ them at all i'm sure they'll be so very very gretful for that.

I'm not condoning littering btw. Just your save the cleaners a job arguement is an odd one
