Simplicity and perfection.
Everyone has always forgotten how nice it is, always enjoy it and you can't really fuck it up.

Laughing at Speakout's and other posts suggesting people make chips from scratch

Well I must be odd then.

I only make chips fom potatoes. I don't make them often, but there is no comparison to oven chips. If I don't want to deep fty then I will make another form of potato, home made mini roast new potatoes or saute potatoes done in the oven, but always made from, well potatoes.
My family would suspect I was ill if I served oven chips.

Speakout I think you’d be very unusual yes. I’m not sure I know anyone that has a deep fat fryer anymore.

I don't know anyone who has a deep fat fryer either. I don't.

We have a Power Air Fryer which is amazing, no oil added and the oil in the food drains away. Cook the sausages in with Lidl's Deluxe Maris Piper chips, simple and fast. I've stopped making my own chips as these are that good.
Then just fry the eggs and microwave beans.

BlueSkiesLies · 21/06/2019 06:51

No. It’s a shit quick tea because it’s not quick!

floribunda18 · 21/06/2019 06:59

I agree it's not a quick tea, I only like sausages cooked in the oven and they take half an hour. I could have made two or three prawn and vegetable stir-fries in that time.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 21/06/2019 07:25

Just because you could, doesn't mean you should..

And wants all this nonsense about oven chips and oven sausages?
Me auld fether wud be spinning in 'is grarve ifin he'd red tha'.
Get the bloddy chips in huge pan full of hot lard me duck and the sausages? Gerrum in a frying pan me babbies.
Tis thy only wey.
;)

mydogisthebest · 21/06/2019 07:40

We bought a deep fat fryer last year just for the few occasions we have egg and chips!

Oven chips are ok but nowhere near as nice as home made ones. Why settle for second best when you can have a really tasty meal?

Those saying chip shop chips I can't believe. I have never ever eaten a chip shop chip that comes anywhere near home made ones. They are even worse than oven chips! Oh and I have tried them in many places all over the UK

borntobequiet · 21/06/2019 08:14

I have a mini deep fat fryer JUST FOR ME and make chips about three times a year when it's possible to have the windows open and properly purge my home of the smell of frying. They are delicious. But not quick.
Oven chips are horrid.

A fried egg sandwich isnotdinner food
Yeah, you're right.
You're going to need two of them for dinner.

howwudufeel · 21/06/2019 11:48

My grandma made the best home made chips. She used a crinkle cutter and lard.

sugarbum · 21/06/2019 11:49
