Simplicity and perfection.
Everyone has always forgotten how nice it is, always enjoy it and you can't really fuck it up.

Because of this thread, I am having a second dinner of toaster waffles and fried eggs... first course was jacket potato and cheese (with salad), but the weather is so miserable I figured I deserved another go at (all the carbs in the world) a second dinner

Deadringer · 20/06/2019 21:26

I am watching my weight but just want to eat crap today. We had chops tonight, my least favorite dinner, now I want chips! And sausages! SadAngrySad

DramaRamaLlama · 20/06/2019 21:47

@GetRid that sounds bloody perfect Grin

Teacakeandalatte · 20/06/2019 21:49

For me, it is gluten-free fish fingers, no added sugar baked beans, and a tater waffle, all shoved in the oven.

Served with a blob of mayo and a sprinkling of kelp powder, and a peppermint tea.

This person has a split personality.

Skipthisbit · 20/06/2019 21:51

Egg chips and beans is better but yes - delicious

moofolk · 20/06/2019 21:55

All PPs who added beans to your sausage egg and chips are spot on. No point without.

CaptainButtock · 20/06/2019 21:56

Nope sorry.
‘Tis egg chips and beans round this way (with coleslaw and bread and butter on the side if we’re being posh 😂)

Stillneedwillpower · 20/06/2019 21:57

YANBU, but I see your sausage, egg and chips and raise you my ham, egg and chips. IMO, adding baked beans and fried mushrooms and onions would elevate it to a heavenly level.

Tbh, I could even do without the egg if I had the ham, mushrooms, onions and beans!

StyleOfTheTimes · 20/06/2019 21:59

I’m in shock that potato waffles can be put in the toaster?!

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 20/06/2019 22:00

Oh God yes, just sausage, egg and chips works for me.

it needs to be really good sausages, 2 eggs (poached not fried) and just plain old oven chips. And preferably on a Saturday night.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 20/06/2019 22:03

See chip shop chips are also food of the Gods but only when eaten alone or with other chip shop offerings. They lose all appeal for me when put with home cooked food.

user27495824 · 20/06/2019 22:03

Ooh sausages too? Fancy. We sometimes have egg and chips. Probably about 3 times a year, but we happened to have it this week and it was so good. The only dinner I have ketchup with.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 20/06/2019 22:05

If you want to make it quick and you aren't too worried about your arteries just bung frozen chips and sausages in the deep fat fryer.

user27495824 · 20/06/2019 22:11

@platypuspie I can't fathom someone never having had a friend egg sandwich before? Have you never grabbed breakfast on the way to work at least? What about as a teenager? I adore a friend egg sandwich and and I practically lived off them at 18. I always pre-burst the yolk and spread it round evenly with the ketchup (and mayonnaise/brown sauce/mustard/barbecue sauce) just before eating. I'm fussy on how my egg is fried and won't let DP do mine. I like them cracked into very hot fat so the bottom bubbles and goes crispy, and the top cooked with no jiggly bits, but the yolk still soft.

Stillneedwillpower · 20/06/2019 22:20

Now I've had time to think, I've got 2 other 'dinners' that at least match, if not better SEAC:

●Fish finger sandwich with 5 fishfingers on 2 thick slices of buttered white bread.
● Fried egg sandwich, where the yolk is runny, but the white is crispy on the edges. Again it must be with 2 thick slices of buttered white bread.

expatinspain · 20/06/2019 22:28

I'd rather have sausage, mash and gravy. So much nicer. For me eggs and sausages only go together in a fry up, not with chips. Chips only go with steak or fast food.

Howlovely · 20/06/2019 22:34

It would be spaghetti hoops on toast with a poached egg for me.
Changing the subject slightly, those who say chips take so long in the oven, have you tried an air fryer? They are absolutely fantastic. Perfect chips in about 15 minutes!

DeRigueurMortis · 20/06/2019 22:42

@sneakypinky thank you Blush

A slice of gammon (cooked on a cast iron griddle with score lines and crisp fat) with chips and a perfectly fried egg with triple cooked chips is GOD FOOD unless you're vegetarian

wotsittoyou · 20/06/2019 22:42

Prefer chips, egg and beans. I've gone off sausages.

My quick 'just me' meal is a tin of plum tomatoes and lots of buttery white toast to dip in.

DeRigueurMortis · 20/06/2019 22:48

what have you tried cooking the plum tomatoes with spring onions, cumin, paprika, celery salt and a little chilli.

Reduce and then crack in a couple of eggs and cook for 5 mins.

Then dip your toast into that Grin

Lush tomato sauce, runny eggs...it's my go to Saturday breakfast 😀

AquaPris · 20/06/2019 22:48

But chips take aaaaagges

speakout · 20/06/2019 22:49

Quite a messy meal.

Peeling potatoes for the chips, then having to time them and find hob space to cook fried eggs at the same time, hot fat sputtering. You need to drain the chips, air is smelly from the frying, you are left with a greasy frying pan, another pan full of hot oil which has to be cooled, oil filtered and stored if you want to use it again.

Not my idea of an easy meal at all OP.

Jinglejanglefish · 20/06/2019 22:51

speakout there's this amazing thing known as 'oven chips'

speakout · 20/06/2019 22:54

Jinglejanglefish

Oven chips don't even count as food in my book. Rancid gross things.

MiraculousMarinette · 20/06/2019 22:55

Laughing at Speakout's and other posts suggesting people make chips from scratch Grin come on, enough talking silly talk. We just buy them frozen. To make life easier, you know?
