Simplicity and perfection.
Everyone has always forgotten how nice it is, always enjoy it and you can't really fuck it up.

I have never eaten egg and chips in my life.

Our quick supper here is a fish finger wrap.

LazyLemur · 20/06/2019 19:39

Not quick enough. Fish finger sandwich. Or a fried egg sandwich. If sandwiches are not filling enough, just make two. They are the perfect meals.

DeRigueurMortis · 20/06/2019 19:43

I'd be with you if you'd plumbed for gammon eggs and chips...or sausages and mash.

I don't understand people saying it's not easy.

The triple cooked chips from the Co-op are fab. Bung in the oven. Big frying pan and do the gammon/eggs in that.

Sausage and mash - well I put the oven on to warm and during that 15 mins microwave the potatoes to get them started (I agree a fully microwaved potato is nothing to aspire to).

Sausages and potatoes in the oven.

20 mins later take them out - scoop out the potato flesh and mash with butter.
Keep the potato skins and next day fill with any leftover mash, cheese (food of your choice basically and pop in the oven) and have loaded potatoes skins - yum (after a treble cooking the potato skins are so crisp and yummy). Serve with salad as a nod to being healthy.

So out of one quick meal comes another Grin

@Twillow I have two teens both of whom think 8 is a reasonable starting point when asked how many fish fingers Hmm both me at the 2 primary kids can do half that and DH will have "whatever is left" so we're somewhere over 30 before I negotiate down Grin

PlatypusPie · 20/06/2019 19:49

I like a perfectly fried egg ie not like my DH makes, raw on the top and over cooked underneath, bleugh , but I’ve never had a fried egg sandwich. Genuine curiosity here: aren’t they difficult to eat ? Doesn’t the yolk spurt out everywhere ?

Bringonspring · 20/06/2019 19:51

Awwww you just reminded me of my nanny. Thank you

DeRigueurMortis · 20/06/2019 19:53

Yes the egg "spurts" - that's the point Grin

A fried egg sandwich also HAS to have brown sauce and be in a white soft roll....runs and hides at this proclamation...

Butterymuffin · 20/06/2019 19:56

Cheese omelette is the fastest nice tea, accompanied by toast and a cuppa.

Titsywoo · 20/06/2019 19:58

I love sausage egg and chips (with beans of course!) But I also wouldn't call it quick. About 25-30 mins I would say. I can cook a bloody good spaghetti carbonara in 10 to 15 mins!

sneakypinky · 20/06/2019 20:02

@DeRigueurMortis I'd forgotten about gammy. Agree, superior to sausage.

mydogisthebest · 20/06/2019 20:06

Egg, chips and baked beans with bread and butter and a mug of tea is my absolute favourite meal. We don't have it that often though.

morningafternoonevening · 20/06/2019 20:07

Beans and toast!
The quickest and everytime I am always amazed by how DELICIOUS it is.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 20/06/2019 20:11

@KnobOfStork you beat me to it (by several pages) I came on the thread singing the hot pots!! Grin

In our house we can't request egg sausage chips and beans without singing or drive past ikea

TransFannyUltrasound · 20/06/2019 20:15

For me, it is gluten-free fish fingers, no added sugar baked beans, and a tater waffle, all shoved in the oven.

Served with a blob of mayo and a sprinkling of kelp powder, and a peppermint tea.

MysweetAudrina · 20/06/2019 20:18

I just had bacon, egg and new potatoes. It was yum.

shutyourlittleface · 20/06/2019 20:18

That sounds fucking horrendous

Sandybval · 20/06/2019 20:20

Beans on toast with a fried egg on top! Nice and quick, cheap and tastes lovely.

howwudufeel · 20/06/2019 20:22

Fried egg on a barmcake is delicious.

Jinglejanglefish · 20/06/2019 20:23

shutyourlittleface it really does! The fuck is kelp powder?

noodlenosefraggle · 20/06/2019 20:23

Baked potatoes take too long, eggs need to be just right. Sausage chips and beans is perfection on a plate and foolproof Grin

PinkieTuscadero · 20/06/2019 20:25

kelp powder on fish finger sandwiches!

is it a seaweed-y flavour? To make the fish fingers feel at home.

legolimb · 20/06/2019 20:28

Nah..

Poached eggs with avocado toast is quicker.

Chips take forever. I can't stand oven chips so have to do my own wedges in the oven. After prattling about a d cooking they take probably 40 minutes.

TheQueef · 20/06/2019 20:29

Egg banjo is lovely mind.
Still think it's SEAC for number one spot.
12 minutes in a gentle chip pan and heaven Wink

The best quick tea is McDonalds...

But a bloody decent tea is Sausage, egg, chips and beans with a dirty slice of golden fried bread.

GetRid · 20/06/2019 20:37

If you're feeling organised, cook the sausages earlier in the day. Then buy chips from the chip shop, come home, microwave the sausages, ditto baked beans and voila!

Sooo much better than oven chips
