I really really really love the name, we were actually hoping for a boy so we could uae this. We won't be able to have any more children after this and have just found out are having a girl.
WIBU to call her Alfreda and use the nickname Alfie?

However kids can be very cruel and teasing may be an issue

Kids? There’s grown adults on here slating this poor woman’s name choice - wonder where the kids might get it from?

Oh gosh, where to start?

It's really grim to call your daughter a boy's name (would you call a boy Margaret?). It's even worse to use a boy's name because you wanted a boy. Alfie is a silly name anyway, even for a boy. And Alfreda is a whole new dimension of awful.

Oh for fuck’s sake. Sometimes it’s as if feminism never happened. On what planet is it OK to call a girl a boy’s name? Particularly if it’s because you were hoping for a boy? What sort of message is that sending! If your favourite name for a girl was Emily would you use it for a boy? No you wouldn’t. So why do it to a girl?

You are so very unreasonable.

Change your own name to awful Alfreda aka alfie if you think it’s so fecking marvellous

Ihatehashtags · 23/06/2019 08:22

Not a girls name sorry

JacquesHammer · 23/06/2019 08:22

I know an Alfie, she’s the same age as me.

Her full name is Althea.

I commented on the post about someone wanting to make their daughter James and said you're setting them up for a life of "James but she's a girl" - but this thread just reminded me of something.

At school my best friend had a boys name and it was a nightmare for her. Teachers who had made boy-girl seating plans would be angry on discovering she was a girl and they had to change her plans. She accidentally ended up assigned to the boys PE class. Teachers would ask "[Name], is he here?" And she would sheepishly raise her hand. It's not great. She now uses a nickname and hardly anyone calls her her real name.

This thread is such bollocks. Of course op posted on AIBU rather than baby names about how she really wanted a boy so was going to call her DD a boys name. Then doesn't return to the thread 🙄

Bwekfusth · 23/06/2019 08:51

Initially I thought absolutely not, would be like calling a daughter Dave, but Alfreda - yes.

Bwekfusth · 23/06/2019 08:53

Thought I have to say I'm not keen on Alfreda either
