Help me - sick in hotel **Thread contains references to upsetting content - Title edited by MNHQ**

Not sure what exactly I want from this other than maybe distraction.

I’m in a central London hotel for 2 nights for major work meetings, DC are with a babysitter, she’s great but young.

I’ve started being ill as soon as I got here, I’ve been sick and crippling stomach pains. I’m basically trying to sleep in a hot bath to sooth them. Fairly sure next door think I’m having a good time from all the groaning but honestly feel like I’m giving birth it’s agony Sad

I have no water, or painkillers and can’t leave the room to get any which is upsetting me. It’s a basic hotel so no room service to order from.

I am having to keep the bin near to be sick in and this is really really really upsetting me because last year I was raped and as part of the prelude to that I was forced to gag/vomit in a bin. And it’s just playing on my mind constantly now.

I’m worried about work. I’m worried about the DCs having whatever this is, the babysitter not coping and me being stuck 2hrs away.

And I REALLY need water and pain relief!

Sorry for the general rant.

Huge hugs OP. I hope you're feeling better, and I'm sorry it has reminded you of your sexual assault last year. Fingers crossed its passed, or reception were able to get you some water at least.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/06/2019 09:33

This is quite concerning, hope she is ok.

FreshlyRoastedCoffee · 19/06/2019 09:38

hopefully you're ok now and got some rest! What an awful experience. There are a lot of stomach bugs doing the rounds at the moment.

JollyAndBright · 19/06/2019 09:39

@Qsandmore
Please come back and let us know how you are doing, we are worried about you.

AngryAngel · 19/06/2019 09:41

Hope the OP gets back to us to let us know she is ok. Horrible that being sick is bringing flashbacks of her assault. :-( I'm hoping it was just a bad bout of food poisoning. That can be pretty grim, but there is an end in sight.

WanderingTrolley1 · 19/06/2019 09:47

Really quite concerned about OP’s welfare.

Qsandmore · 19/06/2019 09:49

Hi I’m really really sorry for disappearing and worrying anyone. I was struggling and not able to be on the phone as it got worse until about 5ish then at some point must have eased and I have fallen asleep.

I’ve just woken up and daren’t move to be honest as it seems to have gone just as fast as it came! I’m a bit achy but that seems to be it. Hoping this lasts.

Thank you for the offers of help, I have a colleague coming in today so can hopefully get hold of him to bring me some stuff as I think going to the meeting would be irresponsible.

I’m sorry for not titling properly, should probably not have mentioned the bin thing but I think I panicked I’m sorry Sad

Hope your ok OP, sorry your going through this, I hate vomiting too (not for the same reason as you) so I would be panicking. I think I would call a family member to come to my aid, I know my mum would drive to wherever I was to help me. Hopefully you have called 111 for help and are being looked after.

Phoningliz · 19/06/2019 09:51

Flowers At half two in the morning you're allowed to not get things perfect. I'm so glad you're feeling better and able to take things slow today. Remember to put the Shh Sleeping thingy on your door for when housekeeping come round.

Phoningliz · 19/06/2019 09:53

How old are you lovemusic? That's so lovely that you think your mum would do that for you. My mum would be a bit Hmm !

Qsandmore · 19/06/2019 09:53

We can’t drink the tap water in the upstairs of our house at home because it’s held in a tank and there could be anything in there.
I travel a lot and sometimes hotels are the same so I’m always wary, not a princess about tap water promise!

I hope the OP is a little better this morning, or has called 111 and got some medical assistance. If she's vomiting but constipated thats not something that a paracetamol will resolve, it can be symptomatic of some serious conditions.

In defence of the hotel staff, if they're on their own they won't be allowed to leave the reception area. They definitely won't be allowed to give/ get medication because of the liability issues, such is the world we live in now. I used to work nights in a hotel and there were two of us, that meant we could at least do basics like get water or spare linen and even sit with guests whilst they waited for an ambulance (and in some cases I went to hospital with them). I left soon after we went to lone working on nights, as you're so limited in what you can do, and you can't go to a guest's room for your own safety as much as theirs. This is what happens when staff numbers are cut to the absolute minimum.

PeoniesarePink · 19/06/2019 09:55

Lots of fluids and rest today OP, and try something like Buscopan, it's an IBS medicine but generally relaxes your digestive system... I'm prescribed it for gall bladder pain and it's the only thing that works. You can buy it over the counter.

Norovirus can give you crippling stomach pains. Only on MN does that become a medical emergency needing 999 and A & E though Hmm

NoBaggyPants · 19/06/2019 09:56

Glad to hear you're OK OP, you must be exhausted. If you're still struggling please seek medical help today. Better to be safe than sorry.

ineedtogotobedanyway · 19/06/2019 09:56

In defence of the hotel staff, if they're on their own they won't be allowed to leave the reception area.

Of course they can. In fact I regularly face a sign on the reception that staff are 'helping other guests' when I check in late at the PI.

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/06/2019 09:57

Sorry - to include that the OP's first post mentions rape.
I was not expecting to read that.

Ffs! So we can’t see the word now?

AngryAngel · 19/06/2019 09:59

Glad you are feeling better OP. To me it sounds like it was food poisoning of some type. Take it as easy as you can.

Grumpymug · 19/06/2019 10:03

Well yes, you leave the reception area, and 9 times out of 10 you're not helping other guests either Grin I'm usually setting breakfast or a function or working on the bar, cleaning public areas - carry a phone though. Anyway, although able to leave the desk, not able to leave the hotel, so not much help in obtaining pain relief etc.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 10:40

The thread title doesn't need changing, unless you want it to include the OP puking so emetophobics aren't affected.

I'm saying this gently I promise but if someone is so affected by reading a word unexpectedly then the internet isn't the place for them.

You need rehydration sachets OP.

HariboLectar · 19/06/2019 10:44

Is there a vending machine anywhere - some accept card payment? Lucozade Sport (or Smart Water) would help a bit, plain water isn't brilliant as it doesn't replace the electrolytes you lose when spewing.

Hope you feel better soonFlowers

EMacCoffee · 19/06/2019 11:13

Glad you're feeling better OP. Definitely take it easy today.

Yabbers · 19/06/2019 11:13

I travel a lot and sometimes hotels are the same so I’m always wary, not a princess about tap water promise!

There are building regulations about potable water in hotels rooms. I guarantee the tap water in PI is safe to drink, otherwise they would have been shut down by now. Non drinking water must be labelled so, by law.

But if you really don’t think you can be sure, boil it.

PegLegAntoine · 19/06/2019 11:27

The fact it suddenly eased off makes it sound more like gallstones. Ask for a scan ASAP. Also Buscopan can help as it relaxes the gallbladder during an attack

JollyAndBright · 19/06/2019 11:50

Thanks for coming back to update us, I’m glad you are feeling better.

I agree with PPs, you should definitely try to make an appointment with your gp for when you get home.

ColdToesHere · 19/06/2019 11:54

I'm glad you're feeling better OP but if you can see a GP soon, it might be a good idea.

And as for you @AlexaAmbidextra Even the word rape can be a massive trauma trigger for some people. If it doesn't affect you, great, but don't be such a sneery cow about how it may affect others.
