Have a look at these links from 15-20 years ago - wish he was my mp - and I don’t even vote conservative.

It would be like having Ranulph Fiennes as prime minister.

Have a look at his voting record over the nine years he's been an MP; think of all the misery and, yes, deaths, that have been caused by the policies of Tory and coalition governments since 2010, and then decide whether or not he's stlll so cool.

Which is more important 'cooilness' or humanity?

serenoa · 17/06/2019 12:13

'coolness', not what I typed. Sorry.

Rainbunny · 17/06/2019 12:25

I don't like any of the Tory leadership candidates but Rory Stewart is the only one who isn't spouting the no deal bollocks and for that single reason I wish he would win. Of course he won't precisely because he admits the reality of the damage of a no deal Brexit.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 17/06/2019 12:28

I feel sorry for poor bloody Akbar. Wink Grin

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2019 12:32

I read it as Rod Stewart and it confused me 😁 i think he is the "better" candidate I suppose.

jenthelibrarian · 17/06/2019 12:32

He is known as 'Florence of Belgravia'

Just saying.

HollowTalk · 17/06/2019 12:33

I wish he would come out and say that leaving Europe is the worst thing we could do.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2019 12:35

I don't think his background is cool privileged and interesting but not cool

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 17/06/2019 12:46

We kept telling them we were walking across Iran as tourists. Nobody believed us. To have walked two thousand miles sounded absurd to them.

Sounds absurd to me too but kudos I guess - it takes balls to do something which on the face of it, seems foolhardy. He also refers to walking in Pakistan, Indonesia and China.
I will continue to reserve most of my admiration however for Akbar, who got lumbered with accompany this silly sodding tory/tourist duty. In the same way I also feel sorry for the Sherpa that herd people to the top of mountains.

A slightly cool fuckwit is still a fuckwit.

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/06/2019 12:50

I’m losing the plot. I thought ‘Rod Stewart has been an MP????!!!!’ 😂

LillithsFamiliar · 17/06/2019 12:55

I first heard of him years ago. I read his articles and his book and I liked him. But that was before he became a Tory. It's one of my disappointments about this campaign - I'm struggling to maintain my secret crush on him in light of him persistently reminding me he is a Tory.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2019 12:59

I’m losing the plot. I thought ‘Rod Stewart has been an MP

So did I Blush Rory Stewarts full name is Roderick so ...

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 17/06/2019 13:00

Why don't you vote OP? Unless you are prohibited from doing so, how do you justify that?

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2019 13:00

He looks like Eddie Redmayne or his brother everytime I see him it messes with me

itsagoodlife · 17/06/2019 13:01

Rory Stewart is a slippery snake that reminds me of a pantomime villain, he even has the evil smile and hunch back, he gives me the shivers and heebie-jeebies! Imagine meeting him on a dark night Shock. No way could he ever ever be a Prime Minister.

Hithere12 · 17/06/2019 13:03

Ok I skim read, he wrote a book about Afghanistan? Ok? Just go by his voting record which is pretty shit. It’d be like voting for Boris because he’s a bumbling and can be funny.

itsallgoingsouth · 17/06/2019 13:05

Rod Stewart for PM !!

Crinkle77 · 17/06/2019 13:06

For a minute i thought your post said Rod Stewart Grin

Everanewbie · 17/06/2019 13:06

I'm a big fan of his. I think he would make a fantastic prime minister in a time away from this Brexit shambles. He strikes me as someone who has thrived away from party politics and he shares my views. A cautious and compassionate man that I'd prefer to Boris the self promoter, and Corbyn who I view as incredibly dangerous.

Unfortunately I feel that the only way the Tories will win over the Brexit Party support and therefore keep Corbyn out of number 10 is by having a leader with a robust attitude towards the EU and Brexit. This is a shame for me being a Tory moderate reluctant remainer.

tomatostottie · 17/06/2019 13:06

Thanks for the links - I'll have to read his books. Love to read anything to do with long distance walking as it is one of my passions in life.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2019 13:07

Rod Stewart for PM !!

Yup skin tight trousers for all
