Have a look at these links from 15-20 years ago - wish he was my mp - and I don’t even vote conservative.

Labour Government were at the helm when the country went bankrupt in 1976. It was forced into an IMF bail out (along the lines of Greece) and needed to be bailed out to the tune of $4,000,000,000! That was in 1976!

The unions were out of control, labour was out of control and we didn't even have electricity every day. It was on for a few hours a day if we were lucky. Callaghan was the next labour disaster and the Labour government ended in 1979.

You have some gall to post that it was a conservative government ghost It most certainly was not, and you want to end up there again vote for Corbyn, Mcdonnell and Watson.

SilverySurfer · 17/06/2019 17:31

I wouldn't vote for him simply because he is the choice of all the left wingers on here.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/06/2019 17:31

littlekitty but surely what matters so much more to you is that Harold Wilson had one squinty eye and reminds you of a baddy in a book/website aimed at 10 year olds?

I keep hearing that Rory Stewart is "honest".

Actually, he has a habit of saying contradictory things. For example, he once claimed that "80% of the public support Theresa May's withdrawal deal" and when asked where he had got that figure from, he instantly said, "Well, OK, I made that up". Last week, he said he would never serve in Cabinet if Boris Johnson was PM. This week, he said if asked to do so, he "would consider it his duty". Nothing to do with his ministerial perks disappearing into the sunset, of course.

Last week, he got into quite a froth and a flounce (and I think this may be why he is known as Florence of Belgravia) about the possibility of Parliament being prorogued to force through a no-deal Brexit, calling it unconstitutional, and threatened to set up his own alternative parliament (which would be both unconstitutional and unlawful) across the road in Methodist Central Hall.

I quite like Rory. He's quite entertaining. I just don't take him seriously.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/06/2019 17:36

Harold Wilson was a LABOUR leader, and on his watch the country sank and was bailed out by the IMF!!

Um ok Hmm I didnt remember asking but thanks Hmm, it was still the Heath government that was in charge during the power cuts of the 70's which was the correction to the original statement because the poster was factually incorrect and if anyone is ever incorrect about the Wilson government and the IMF I shall be sure to send them your way [eyeroll]

Alsohuman · 17/06/2019 17:39

I seem to remember Edward Heath was PM when the lights went out nearly 50 years ago! What relevance that has to the current shitstorm I have no idea.

If we thought May was bad, Boris will show us what shocking is. Fortunately I somehow think his term of office will be the shortest in history.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/06/2019 17:47

alsohuman most of the conservative members voting in boris Johnson will be long retired. Wilson/Heath is their frame of reference for when they were working and building a family which is probs why so many haven’t moved on and are trapped by it.

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2019 17:50

You have some gall to post that it was a conservative government ghost It most certainly was not - I didn't Hmm you need to calm down a bit!

Lets also ignore the conflict in the Middle East that was also involved in that whole power cut fiasco - and yes not at all relevant to 2019!

Littlekittystops · 17/06/2019 18:03

So now we get to it. The lights went out in the late seventies under a labour government. I am glad we all agree that it was under a labour government that the country went bankrupt and were bailed out by yr IMF.

I am glad that we also agree that it was under a militant labour government with precisely Corbyn’s vision that nearly broke our country indefinitely. You can not rewrite history.

I am a floating voter, and I have no huge desire to settle with any one party, but I can not stand by and read this utter fake news on here blaming the conservatives for the car crash that was the labour government in the 70s.

This matters now why? Because this is precisely where labour is headed again today. Look it up yourself.

When the champagne lefties realise their London homes will become state owned when they die ( as was published today by labour) they will disappear to their natural home - the Liberal Democrat’s following Chukka. When every single house owning labour supporter understands fully that their homes are up for grabs, they too will dessert the party, roll in all the leavers that have been utterly betrayed by labour. Who will be left exactly? A few militants and ignorant students, and that will be it.

Labour is finished in its current form. Watson will stage a coup unsuccessfully but it is the end make no mistake of two party politics.

And you think the tories have problems?

ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2019 18:06

but this is a thread about the TORY leadership race Grin maybe start your own thread about the political events of the 1970's (and how every bad that ever happened is because of Labour) and let the other people focus on the chinless entitled men vying to lead us into Brexit oblivion

and you can apologise any time !

PS stop assuming everyone is a Labour voter

Another vote for Rod Stewart

Littlekittystops · 17/06/2019 18:22

I have never read the daily mail. There is an interesting article about labours new policy in the times though.

You will no longer inherit your parents home, you will be taxed to an inch of your life on all assets under Corbyn’s new:

“Radical changes to the way land is used and controlled in the UK”

Ponder that for a moment.

So if you own your own property, or wish to in the future, or hope to inherit anything at all, think very very carefully before voting for labour in the future.

They intend to tax every single person on the value of their home too btw.

You are basically handing over your house keys.

Yes it will sink our country overnight as investors will run for the hills. The City would tank overnight.

The reason this is important to the Rory thread is simply if Rory gets in, and I am not hopeful, he has zero chance of winning the expected election and Corbyn will be installed in number ten by Christmas.

That is why Labour supporters and the BBC are championing him so loudly, not because of Rory’s great potential and charisma, certainly not for his churchillian gravitas. No, Rory the panto favourite is the key to a fast track labour government.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/06/2019 18:24

Ponder that for a moment.

I did and came to the conclusion that some posters are batshit crazy

Littlekittystops · 17/06/2019 18:27

I will leave you to post mindless links, you are obviously not up to an intelligent debate.
You have completely failed miserably on all counts to put forward the labour case. It was an impossible task given their policies admittedly.

Over and out.

Alsohuman · 17/06/2019 18:40

Just in case you hadn’t noticed this thread isn’t about a potential Labour government, now bore off and start your own thread.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2019 18:42

over and out Grin erm roger that mate!

I love that people consistently try to derail any debate about the Tories by shouting 'LABOUR/1970's/OMG WE ARE ALL DOOMED' rather than actually engaging in a conversation - you know - about the future PM candidates - kind of shows how limited their arguments are

and again - the assumption that anyone with the opinion that Boris is not the second coming is a raving Trot!

ghostyslovesheets · 17/06/2019 18:45

also can I just ask

So if you own your own property, or wish to in the future, or hope to inherit anything at all, think very very carefully before voting for labour in the future. They intend to tax every single person on the value of their home too btw.You are basically handing over your house keys.Yes it will sink our country overnight as investors will run for the hills. The City would tank overnight

that's okay but if anyone points out the possible (very real) economic impact of Brexit (especially a no deal Brexit) it's scaremongering Hmm

RosemaryRemember · 17/06/2019 18:45

I'd vote for Rod Stewart too.

RosemaryRemember · 17/06/2019 18:58

Why don't some of these political wannabees spend their gap years investigating the unknown corners of the United Kingdom if they fancy running it one day?

IcedPurple · 17/06/2019 19:06

Why don't some of these political wannabees spend their gap years investigating the unknown corners of the United Kingdom if they fancy running it one day?

Not much scope for lucrative book deals with a tome about walking around Scunthorpe or Grimsby.

Jux · 17/06/2019 19:27

Pah, my cousin did that walk over 30+ years ago. Everyone was doing it (everyone of a certain class, that is). My boss' son did it 10 years later. Nothing special about RS for that.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 17/06/2019 19:29

I find him credible, honest and intelligent.
Mofo Bojo? Are you fucking kidding me?
Lied about Brexit. Did not step up to the plate when Maybot did cos he was too fucking spineless. Hasn't done debate or press hustings. Has the least experience (years in government/shadow cabinet/minister and select committee positions) of all six. Trump likes him. I despair.
