Madge is on graham Norton. She literally can’t move her face and can barely open her mouth she’s had so much surgery. It seems to have affected her speech it’s so bad.
She’s always been so great but it’s all so disappointing that she has fucked with her face so much.

@mabelsgarden - you are right, she has had an amazing career and achieved great success over a long period. I used to love her music and found her stylish and interesting, which is why I find it really sad that she seems to have lost her way now. Some say she shouldn't bow gracefully, just to appease ageist people. She obviously still has fans who want her to keep going, so that is partly why she carries on. Well, I guess she's not doing anyone any harm, if she chooses to grow old(er) disgracefully. But as this is a discussion forum and she is a public figure who uses her image to sell her music, people are allowed to say if they think she's got it wrong and made herself look daft.

floraloctopus · 15/06/2019 01:45

She seemed almost on the verge of panic at times and looked like she was getting out of breath.

Furries · 15/06/2019 01:54

I’ve skimmed this thread, so haven’t read every comment completely. I think the consensus is that she’s an icon, age shouldn’t matter etc etc.

With regards to women, appearance, age, appropriate etc then I mostly agree. However ....

I want to say her wardrobe team are in trouble - but surely you’d test run how something looks/feels in a certain environment. That outfit would have been banging stood up on stage, but she was not comfortable on the sofa and that bleed through to her posture/demeanour.

I blooming adored her in my teens, lucky enough to see her early tours at Wembley in my teen years and tried (and failed) to perfect the lace bow in the hair look!!

The more I’ve seen over the years on tv, the more disappointed I feel. She was beyond rude tonight, she could have really made an effort to connect, but she came across as rude, entitlted and desperate.

This has made me feel quite sad. I loved Madge from my teens, but what I saw tonight didn’t make me feel nostalgic. I enjoyed the others on the sofa more, and I previously would have thought that she’d be the best thing on a show

Hmmmmph - this is obviously one of the signs of getting older, being disappointed in your idols!!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 15/06/2019 02:10

Have just watched it and it was not half as bad as I was expecting, she made me laugh a few times, I think her outfit was unfortunate not because she looked bad but because she was clearly uncomfortable and I think that put her off her stride a bit, plus she needs to get rid of that ridiculous grill on her teeth it makes her very difficult to understand. Would also like to point out that Sheryl Crow’s face was botoxed up and not au naturale as a pp stated, she looked great but clearly has had work.

Topseyt · 15/06/2019 03:31

I used to like her when I was a ternager and then in my student days. I agree that she has had an amazing career, but I'm afraid she isn't reinventing herself well this time.

She gave that dreadful and totally out of tune performance at the Eurovision Song Contest, and I think she came across as very arrogant tonight, with an unfortunate outfit to boot.

it is quite sad that she has lost the plot the way she seems to have done.

The eye-patch looks ridiculous to me.

Gilead · 15/06/2019 04:36

Madonna isn’t to my taste, however this is another example of women not supporting other women. She isn’t growing old disgracefully or gracefully, she’s growing old her way in the public eye.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 15/06/2019 04:47

There are very few older women in the public eye who the public accept as having the right to exist.

Helen Mirren, maybe. Meryl Streep.

But it doesn't matter what we do, grow old gracefully or disgracefully or anything in between, you can guarantee that the knives are out as soon as you hit 35.

Get a ton of botox - you're deluding yourself. Get nothing done - you're a hag.

Madonna is fucking hilarious and she's always done whatever she wants. We don't have to approve of every decision she's ever made, but considering the criticism she's had her entire career, the fact that she just keeps going should be inspiring to all of us.

You have hit the nail on the head. I watched the interview after reading this thread and then going on twitter to see that she was trending. Everybody there was slagging her off too.Im not a Madonna fan and would never have watched the interview otherwise. I was very surprised when I watched the interview because I couldn't see anything unusual about it at all. Madonna has always been different/ outrageous and tbh I wasn't a fan because of it. If anything, this interview was a toned down version of what I remember of her.

Sad that society hates women so much .

And after what she said about her children not enjoying her being in the public eye because of social media, I did think of this thread and Twitter. Awful. (Not her...you guys).

BitOfFun · 15/06/2019 05:12

I skipped Graham Norton last night once I realised she'd be on it. I just knew I'd cringe myself inside out after the Eurovision travesty.

I don't want to spoil my memories.

feelingverylazytoday · 15/06/2019 05:42

Iamalwayslikethis Stevie Nicks (71), Debbie Harry (73), Marianne Faithfull (72), Grace Jones (71), Dolly Parton (73), Dame Shirley Bassey (age 82), these are just some female singers who are still active and popular. There are others (Tina Turner, Linda Ronstadt, eg, who worked after 60 and only retired due to ill health)
People don't like Madonna because she has limited talent, and a rank personality.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/06/2019 05:42

I found her hilarious last night, that’s pirate get up is ridiculous though and she was doddery because of the heels. I felt like she was taking the piss and being sarcastic a lot of the time. She has had some work done but she doesn’t look almost 63, it would have been better had she appeared as her ‘natural’ self but that’s not really Madonna. I thought she was quite honest and open about wanting to relive her youth and finding motherhood hard etc.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/06/2019 05:44

She’s always been a hard faced, fame hungry bitch though! That’s why she’s been so successful on somewhat limited vocal talent.

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/06/2019 05:47

The poor woman squeezed herself into a corset, which would have fitted perfectly 3 decades ago. Ergo she could hardly breathe and her boobs looked fit to burst. Why do it to yourself?

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 15/06/2019 05:47

feeling

As if any of those people are anywhere near as famous these days as Madonna still is, bar maybe Dolly Parton, who people continue to like because she never says anything controversial and dresses as an idealised version of womanhood. (Don't get me wrong, I think she's great.)

People don't slag those women off because they essentially stay in their lane and don't rock the boat.

Madonna has always been pushy and awkard and people don't like it.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/06/2019 05:50

I think she’s fabulous! Almost like a drag character and I love how she doesn’t give a shit who she pisses off when speaking out about things that matter to her. There aren’t that many people with true star quality and she has it without a doubt, despite all the dodgy, crazy stuff!

Sorry got multiple posts, it’s early!

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2019 05:50

The outfit wasn't great for sitting on a sofa and she's nothing if not professional so I thought that was a odd oversight. She looked uncomfortable and it didn't make for a good interview.

feelingverylazytoday · 15/06/2019 05:57

Madonna has always been pushy and awkard and people don't like it
Why would they? I don't think male celebrities who are pushy and awkard are that popular either.

DeeCeeCherry · 15/06/2019 06:02

Well - people have done worse haven't they? Annoys me that men can sit there wrinkled & silver haired, over-tight trousers n all and still be relevant and fawned over. But for women, YOUTH is everything..that's the message drilled into women time and time again. It's no wonder some succumb to it

She's Madonna. & Even if she wasn't - She can wear what the hell she likes. Grow old disgracefully, she's earned it. & Maybe she is afraid of looking/growing old. But so what...? She won't be the first or last woman to feel that way, in a society that defines us via how we look and seems to think 60 = scrapheap.

Ageism, bodyshaming, ridicule of her looks, tone and behaviour policing..I truly hope she doesn't give a fuck about any of it.
Including the insidious implication that unless women are vapid and simpering and smiling all the time, they're rude, petulant horrors.

She's had a mega-career, that's an achievement.

Oh leave it out. There is a middle ground between these two extremes, one that most people manage to navigate.

Bixter · 15/06/2019 06:24

She looked hideous, bloody ridiculous. A caricature of her former self.

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 15/06/2019 06:34

Complete hijack but have just come across some fantastic username on this thread! @VladimirsPoutine and @EmmaGrundyForPM

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/06/2019 07:15

Thank you Bobby Grin

I couldn't care less what she was wearing. I do care that she was rude.

Freefrops · 15/06/2019 07:37

Madge is destroying her legacy and that is the sad part.

buttery81 · 15/06/2019 07:48

I was really surprised that she was second onto the sofa, before Sir Ian McKellen. As the biggest star, shouldn’t she have been last on?

flumpybear · 15/06/2019 08:05

I thought she seemed a bit awkward and anxious, but breathy too but that might have been the corset lol

She's lost the gap between her teeth, hence perhaps her voice being strange, though her lip plumping is a bit OTT - her breasts also over plumped lol 😆 I wish she'd lose the eye patch though, it's a bit shit!

Quick internet search, another time she was on GN she looked more like Sheryl Crow did last night 😉 ... far more fabulous!
