I don't want to live in a world where we are all censored

OP posts:

Who are the 'right wing' comedians who appear regularly on the BBC or any other channel?

Zipee · 16/06/2019 22:38

Name me a right wing comedian with any current appeal? Or any current TV show?

derxa · 16/06/2019 22:44

Name me a right wing comedian with any current appeal? Or any current TV show? Yes exactly. I don't know who they are. You can't be a comedian now without being 'left wing'. All you have to do is say that Trump is stupid and people collapse into fits of laughter. Bring back Morecambe and Wise

Zipee · 16/06/2019 22:48

Trump is stupid. He proves it on a daily basis, he's an advert for where you can get by luck of birth. Oh and no, he isn't a good business man.

Trump is a satirists dream

man

There are only so many jokes you can make out of this surely.

Zipee · 16/06/2019 23:01

Except that he keeps drawing attention to it? Prince of Whales?

Zipee · 16/06/2019 23:03

Btw how many Dianne Abbott jokes are there?

RiversDisguise · 17/06/2019 00:54

A lot. She does make a point of advertising her ignorance, too...

More jokes at the expense of all these clowns, I say.

RiversDisguise · 17/06/2019 00:57

You only see these jokes online though really... about DA I mean

Occasionally you get comedians who seem to take swipes at the left... Al Murray, Charlie Brooker... but then they go out of their way to demonstrate how ironic it was in columns for the Guardian, etc

hilbobaggins · 17/06/2019 13:39

The point was that people performing to an audience have more licence than others in many respects.

Yes, Dankula, the “unknown blogger” as you keep insisting on calling him - the one with hundreds of thousands of followers-was a YouTube entertainer who was performing to an audience of people who enjoyed his jokes and supported him financially. He had license with this audience because they trusted him and understood what he was doing, and it had nothing to do with Nazis or anti-semitism. There is a massive shift in media consumption and judging people on their Radio 4 and BBC appearances is like looking in the wrong direction.

It’s nigh on impossible for a right wing comedian to make it on mainstream TV - which really does say something about media political bias - but social media and in particular YouTube means that entertainers with alternative political perspectives can find an audience without having to demonstrate “acceptable” viewpoints to bosses at the Beeb etc. To my means that means that the more interesting stuff is happening outside the realms of MSM. Stephen Crowder (US conservative comedian) had a YouTube following of millions until they demonetised him last week.

Zipee · 17/06/2019 13:51

Or that right wing comedians aren't funny ?

Dankula didn't have hundreds of thousands of followers when he put the video up, that came later. Otherwise he would have had a better excuse than "it was a joke for my girlfriend".

Lifecraft · 17/06/2019 14:03

Btw how many Dianne Abbott jokes are there?

Dianne Abbott says 75% of all jokes are about her, and the remaining 53% aren't.

Alsohuman · 17/06/2019 14:14

@Lifecraft 🤣

Or that right wing comedians aren't funny

there are many right wing comedians out there, but they are on right wing media stations or youtube.

But then it also depends on what you would call right wing.

Zipee · 17/06/2019 18:00

Then they have many platforms!

Doesn't mean they are actually funny though.

BoneyBackJefferson · 17/06/2019 18:22

Zipee

Doesn't mean they are actually funny though.

'Doesn't mean that I find them funny though.'

fixed it for you.

derxa · 17/06/2019 19:28

Or that right wing comedians aren't funny ? I don't know any so I don't know if they're funny or not. However you can't make me laugh at anything I don't find funny. Especially political propaganda disguised as 'comedy'

RiversDisguise · 17/06/2019 20:09

How many right wing comedians sell out big London theatres?

Or sell lots of DVDs?

Big arena tours?

Name 5?

What has any of that got to do with you not finding their comedy funny?

Zipee · 17/06/2019 21:49

People were complaining that they don't get on TV because of bias.

Im asking how many are actually popular.

BoneyBackJefferson · 17/06/2019 22:00

Zipee

I would say that the opposite is true, but (nuance) that they don't tend to do stand up or tours they are the ones that have written and starred in their own shows.

But then it depends on how you define right wing,

Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld would be examples of american right wing comedians that are funny.

Zipee · 17/06/2019 22:22

They both get on the TV and get their stand up shows shown on TV in the UK too.

Where are they being held back by political agenda?

BoneyBackJefferson · 17/06/2019 22:25

Zipee

Where are they being held back by political agenda?

You would have to ask someone that has said that they are.

But IMO, if a right wing comedian tried to do a stand up over here, (and one or two have) I can't see them putting on a show that wouldn't be picketed by left wingers and not allowing them to perform.

Zipee · 17/06/2019 22:25

Although Seinfeld appears to have donated to both democrats and republican candidates.

Kelsey Grammer is another republican though.
