To live in a 4 bed mortgage free for £250k

Where can I find a really good 4 bed for £250k?

Not joking - that's where we are at post divorce. The world is my oyster but ideally I need a great primary, secondary, and a flexible school hours (9-3) job (DC have medical stuff going on so can't manage wraparound childcare). Anywhere?

Anywhere but the south east or big cities I would say.

ParanoidGynodroid · 10/06/2019 20:41

My DS has just bought a house in Lincolnshire. Prices seem very reasonable there. Not sure where else!

Onatreebyariver · 10/06/2019 20:42

Scotland or Wales I guess more likely?

Cherrysoup · 10/06/2019 20:42

The north.

BinksLinks · 10/06/2019 20:43

Norfolk!
scuttles off to do a rightmove search for you

Candleglow7475 · 10/06/2019 20:43

In the North West, Bolton, Bury or Wigan. You’d be relatively close to Manchester and open countryside too.

BlueberryFool123 · 10/06/2019 20:43

How serious are the child medical issues? Do you need to be near a tertiary hospital/specialist paediatric hospital?

C1u4toff · 10/06/2019 20:44

Here in northern ireland you would get a fab house close by to a main town for that

Sciurus83 · 10/06/2019 20:44

Losds here, Newcastle/north east

Livelovebehappy · 10/06/2019 20:45

Anywhere Northwest. You can get a lovely 4 bedroom in Yorkshire for that budget. We’ve just bought a lovely three bed semi with garage and large garden in a good area for £130k up here, so your budget could obviously go far.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 10/06/2019 20:45

Lincolnshire. The idea that Scotland is cheap is a myth...as I try to explain to my family who wonder why we live in England and not Scotland. You'll get a really good 4 bed detached house in most parts of Lincolnshire for £250k. Scotland you'll struggle.

noctu · 10/06/2019 20:45

County Durham.

inlectorecumbit · 10/06/2019 20:45

Exactly, the most important thing in your list is the medical care for the DC

Jackyjill6 · 10/06/2019 20:46

The job is probably going to be trickiest

maddening · 10/06/2019 20:46

Chester is nice, small enough that it feels safe, good schools in general this is £240k www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-69245605.html

Answeringonlyyesorno · 10/06/2019 20:47

But what about school holidays? You want a term time 9 to 3 job? I think that will be harder to find than the house.

inlectorecumbit · 10/06/2019 20:47

Nope you will easily get a 4 bedroom house in some areas of Scotland for that amount and in a Naice area Grin

Redcar Grin

SkintAsASkintThing · 10/06/2019 20:47

Liverpool / the Wirral.

Near to amazing parks and coast and alder hey.

Candleglow7475 · 10/06/2019 20:48

Don’t know how to do links but loads of £250k 4 beds in north Manchester. This is a new build, not sure if the area though.

Mary1935 · 10/06/2019 20:48

Northampton way Kettering and surrounding areas.
Don’t do Bolton - I’m from there originally - a bit grim now sadly - what about Preston?
Good luck - you’d be lucky to purchase a 2 bed flat for that price where I am in south east.

Excellent local schools, primary and secondary. 20 minutes to Peterborough for hospital and work, good road and rail links from there too.

SamBaileys · 10/06/2019 20:48

County Durham

HollowTalk · 10/06/2019 20:50

The Wirral. Beautiful houses. Near the beach. A short train ride to Liverpool. Half an hour to Chester. Want me to find you something?
