To live in a 4 bed mortgage free for £250k

Where can I find a really good 4 bed for £250k?

Not joking - that's where we are at post divorce. The world is my oyster but ideally I need a great primary, secondary, and a flexible school hours (9-3) job (DC have medical stuff going on so can't manage wraparound childcare). Anywhere?

I’d plump to be near a big city with a reputable tertiary children’s hospital, reasonable housing costs and better work opportunities so Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield or Newcastle would be my choice

TheRedBarrows · 10/06/2019 21:13

Nottingham.

BlueberryFool123 · 10/06/2019 21:14

I agree with Andromeda. I would say Sheffield or Newcastle. Both have great children’s hospitals.

ScatteredMama82 · 10/06/2019 21:15

Entirely achievable in Shropshire, lovely area. We've lived all over, from far North of Scotland, NE England, Anglesey...we decided to settle here in Shropshire as we love it the most. www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/find.html?locationIdentifier=REGION%5E1208&minBedrooms=4&maxPrice=250000&radius=5.0&propertyTypes=detached%2Csemi-detached%2Cterraced&primaryDisplayPropertyType=houses&includeSSTC=false

thegreylady · 10/06/2019 21:15

Try Shropshire

PregnantOnPurpose · 10/06/2019 21:15

PregnantOnPurpose · 10/06/2019 21:15

Margate

Poole

Milton Keynes

Sittingbourne

You can live where I live, 30 mins from Cambridge, outstanding primary 15 mins away.

mosquitomurderer · 10/06/2019 21:17

Sheffield? Children's hospital is meant to be great, 2 hour train connection to London could make contact more manageable, no idea re: Jobs. Weather may be a bit of a shock but amazing access to Peak District - ecclesal Road/nethers edge areas are great.

TurquoiseDress · 10/06/2019 21:17

Here in SE London 250k will probably get you a studio, if not a 1 bed in need of sorting out

Sorry, not what you were asking

sheshootssheimplores · 10/06/2019 21:17

Hospital 15 mins away too.

thegreylady · 10/06/2019 21:17

Good selection there Scatteredmama. I live North of Shrewsbury and property very reasonable here.

ScoobyCan · 10/06/2019 21:18

@BlueberryFool123 and @AndromedaPerseus - I like your way of thinking (as with PP) and the provision of hospital care from large-ish cities nearby sounds very sensible. Are there smaller villages on the outskirts of these larger towns / cities - I agree with Andromeda. I would say Sheffield or Newcastle. Both have great children’s hospitals. - which you have any experience of?

Rural parts of the West Midlands might fit your bill (they do exist!)

Youngandfree · 10/06/2019 21:19

Carlisle, Cumbria!!

thenightsky · 10/06/2019 21:19

We've bought a 5 bed new build in North Lincolnshire for £249k. Two good grammar schools within driving distance. Primaries are reported to be good too... plus there's a fair number to chose from. Only downside is hospitals are not massive so any major medical complications get sent to Sheffield or Nottingham.

ScoobyCan · 10/06/2019 21:20

@TurquoiseDress - I could swap you a ready made one-bed-shed (in someone else's garden?) for that same price?? Deal?

ScoobyCan · 10/06/2019 21:21

@ScatteredMama82 - what about hospitals (that area looks lovely...)?

OP posts:
PregnantOnPurpose · 10/06/2019 21:22

I live within a mile of 2 gp surgeries, 5 miles of two smaller hospitals and 12 miles of a proper big hospital.

People are lovely and we have people from up and down the country, very popular area for breaks away.

saraclara · 10/06/2019 21:22

East Midlands. Derby/Nottingham/Leicester. All have large, good hospitals.

AnnaFender · 10/06/2019 21:22

Just to correct a pp re grammar schools on the Wirral. I live in Wallasey on the Wirral and my DD goes to one of the grammars. Both school bus and trains make it very easy to travel to. But in agreement with them it's a lovely place to live and houses very cheap Grin
