tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

Lego House - Ed Sheeran

We both liked the song and it fitted our theme.

Crimebustersofthesea · 10/06/2019 22:10

Elvis - can't help falling in love with you. Swiftly followed by the UB40 version so people would dance and take the attention away from us Grin

@Meggie2008 I love TC3 and listening to White Lightning this afternoon. I did think that if it had come out when DH and I first met it might have become one of our songs. It is perfect.

Nc cause this is very outing.

We had muses version of cant take my eyes off you. As a ballroom dancer of many years my husband to be wanted to try too. So we spent 8 months of teaching him a tango and routine.

4 weeks before the wedding (due to an previous operation) his tibia shattered on the stag do. Meaning he could no longer do a tango.

So... the only song choice that best fitted our situation was the hokey cokey. All the bridal party plus anyone else got up and joined in. Was the best first dance ever and we got some amazing photos.

Dont write off the hokey cokey.... sometimes it is the only thing it's all about.

Whatsername7 · 10/06/2019 22:11

Our second song was Paradise by the dashboard lights. We thought it was funny!

chuckyeggtimestwo · 10/06/2019 22:12

We had Kathy's Song by Simon & Garfunkel

Cravingcake · 10/06/2019 22:20

We got married last year, our first dance was Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher by Jackie wilson. We decided on that because it was upbeat, fun and not too long.

We had Better Together by Jack johnson when we signed the register.

wafflethewonderdog · 10/06/2019 22:20

Come what may from Moulin Rouge - DH's favourite film.

WhiteRedRose · 10/06/2019 22:23

LindaLa · 10/06/2019 22:23

Careless whisper - seether
(I can't stand the George Michael original)

mumsneedwine · 10/06/2019 22:26

Have I told you lately that I love you - can Morrison. V appropriate as he's still rubbish at it 26 years later.

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 10/06/2019 22:26

NC to an old name as very outing for me!

We had what we thought was Rose by The Feeling..it was on their first album and a compilation we listened to loads when we first got together. We thought the lyrics were nice I love you, especially today, especially this way. Years later I saw the title written down. It was Rosé. Yup, our wedding dance was a love song to wine! Grin

We walked back down the aisle together to IZ’s version of Somewhere over the rainbow/What a wonderful world. It’s such a beautiful song! People still message me sometimes when they hear it to say it reminds me of our wedding! I saw Hugh Jackman live on Friday and he did a similar version and I teared up! My sister also sang ‘We’ve only just begun’ as we signed the register. Ah makes me happy to look back Smile

mumsneedwine · 10/06/2019 22:26

VAN not can.

peppersaunt · 10/06/2019 22:26

We had Night and Day (Cole Porter)
