tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

@babycakes1010 same!

loveautum · 10/06/2019 21:43

I get married in a few weeks, first song will be a acoustic rendition on the guitar by Cyndi Lauper "true colours", also covered by Phil Collins which people commonly know.

ClairParavel · 10/06/2019 21:43

Beautiful War by Kings of Leon.

Northernmum100 · 10/06/2019 21:44

Savage garden - Truly Madly Deeply. I hope you have a fabulous day!

halulat · 10/06/2019 21:45

You do something to me- Paul Weller

HallowsandHorcruxes · 10/06/2019 21:46

@BettyButtercup I walked down the aisle to Baby I'm Yours 😁 great choice !

Our first dance was can't help falling in love - Elvis Presley ❤️

Pale imitation

We had amazed by Lonestar.
And then we had I Alone by Live, because it’s mine and DH favourite song but not really first dance material.

DobbyLovesSocks · 10/06/2019 21:47

Best in me by Blue. Their album came out the first Month we were together and the words of the song just fit. We dance to it every year on our anniversary

Bodyonme · 10/06/2019 21:47

We had The Beatles - I Will. It didn't have any particular significance but it was the shortest song we could find that had mostly appropriate lyrics!

Normandy144 · 10/06/2019 21:48

We had Michael Buble's 'Everything'. Lyrics are nice, it's not too slow and has a classic feel to it.

soupmaker · 10/06/2019 21:49

We had a large live band and we requested Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. They played it brilliantly and it brought the house down. Me and DH loved it and sand it together and waltzed about the house to it for years - still do!

bigmocha · 10/06/2019 21:49

@bert3400 we had Brighter than Sunshine too, I love it still today!

Mindblowninbrisvegas · 10/06/2019 21:51

Let’s face the music and dance - Frank Sinatra. 15 years later it still makes me smile.

Have a wonderful wedding.

Teatimeted · 10/06/2019 21:52

You are the best thing - Ray Lamontagne. It then segued into We Go Together from Grease Smile

GrumbleBumble · 10/06/2019 21:53

Extreme, More than Words (just us dancing) followed by Paul Weller, You do Something to Me for every one to join us.

Dieu · 10/06/2019 21:53

Some fantastic song choices here 👍 I am quite bemused by some of the faster numbers though, as to my mind the first dance is always slow Grin

loveautum · 10/06/2019 21:55

@ToEarlyForDecorations you have great taste, I agree on the Phil Collins version Grin

Cwtches123 · 10/06/2019 21:56

Hot Chocolate - It started with a kiss

Not a typical choice but it meant something to me and DH which is all that matters.

motortroll · 10/06/2019 21:57

Imagine by John Lennon. We chose it for several reasons

  1. We are into rock/metal and most ballads we like are about breaking up lol
  1. You don't have to actually dance to it lol
  1. We were going through some shit with dhs ex with regards to contact for his daughter and we liked the sentiment!
  1. It's quite a short song!
  1. We're not very romantic!
MaelstromOfLunacy · 10/06/2019 21:58

We had Come What May from Moulin Rouge - first film we watched together and we’ve always loved it

MistyMinge2 · 10/06/2019 21:59

We had 'For Lovers' by Wolfman ft Pete Doherty

The first time I heard that song I knew I wanted it at my wedding. Luckily DH loved it too Grin

Mammylamb · 10/06/2019 22:01

“At my most beautiful” by REM

jmh740 · 10/06/2019 22:01

Rod Stewart have I told you lately that I love you.

Dieu · 10/06/2019 22:01

Ooh, if I got to choose, it would be either 'This Night' by Billy Joel, or 'For Crying Out Loud' by Meatloaf, as it's a truly beautiful song.
