tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

She - Elvis Costello

DrReed · 10/06/2019 21:23

Moondance by Van Morrison. Our reception was a garden party with outdoor dance floor so it worked quite well too.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 10/06/2019 21:24

Our was ‘Together you and I’ by Dolly Parton. The lyrics were just perfect:

My love for you is deeper than the depths of any ocean
And as faithful as the stars that grace the night
As constant as the sun making its journey to the heavens
And we'll always be together you and I
Together you and I can stop the rain and make the sun shine
Paint a pretty rainbow brushed with love across the sky
Together you and I belong like a songbird and a song
And we'll always be together you and I
Life with you is sweeter than the fragrance of the flowers
And as happy as the laughter of a child
As peaceful as a river and as lasting as forever
You know we'll always be together you and I
Together you and I can stop the rain and make the sunshine
Paint a pretty rainbow brushed with love across the sky
Together you and I belong like a songbird and a song
And we'll always be together you and I
I'll always be beside or close behind you
Wherever you go you'll always know I'll find you
Together you and I can stop the rain and make the sunshine
Paint a pretty rainbow brushed with love across the sky
Together you and I belong like a songbird and a song
And we'll always be together you and I
We'll always be together you and I
Forever Together
Together Forever
You and I
(Together you and I)
Forever Together
Together forever you and I will always be
Together you and I

Everything I do, Bryan Adams.

I wanted Heaven, dj didn't have that so we got Everthing I do Hmm

Since then I've seen Bryan Adams live twice he's sung Heaven both times, I was made up.

FloofyHeckonChonker · 10/06/2019 21:25

She Moved Through The Fair sung by my cousin and her band. It was beautiful

Seren85 · 10/06/2019 21:27

We had two.

Larger than Life ~Ritchie Kotzen (DH says it reminds him of me and the lyrics are perfect "it all comes down to I do, I do, I do")
Love Walked In ~ Thunder (it is and always had been "our song")

sleepylittlebunnies · 10/06/2019 21:27

I hadn’t realised that a lot of my favourite songs were about splitting up and heartbreak. It was only when tying to choose a song that I really listened to the clearly inappropriate lyrics.

We had Eva Cassidy- Songbird. It has beautiful lyrics and was suited to mine and DH’s dancing prowess, we could just do a very slow shuffle around the dance floor.

I must admit though that ever since Scott and Charlene’s wedding on Neighbours I secretly would have loved to have had Angry Anderson’s Suddenly Blush

SachaStark · 10/06/2019 21:28

We had Jump Around by House of Pain... the dance floor filled up VERY QUICKLY Grin

Set exactly the tone we wanted for the evening: massive party!

crispsahoy · 10/06/2019 21:29

We had take that-a million love songs
I also walked down the aisle to it, it's the only song really has meaning to us.

Crunchymum · 10/06/2019 21:29

No plans for a wedding but first dance would be Gerry Rafferty "Right Down The Line".

American Pie, The Wedding nicked my other choice Van Morrison "Into The Mystic"

Lucie8881 · 10/06/2019 21:30

We had Iris by the Goo Goo dolls. Lovely song but I didn't realise how long it was Grin

cricketmum84 · 10/06/2019 21:31

We had The One by Kodaline. Not a very well known song to be honest. I had a list of about 10, DH said he wasn't bothered but then he heard this song and asked me to listen to it because he said it said everything he wanted to say. I'm welling up now just remembering!

bert3400 · 10/06/2019 21:32

Brighter than sunshine by Aqualung - makes me very every time I hear it

goldface · 10/06/2019 21:34

You're just too good to be true by Lauryn Hill

cricketmum84 · 10/06/2019 21:35

Meant to add we then went straight into Mardy Bum by Arctic Monkeys as DH has always said that song could have been written about me 😂

kb1992 · 10/06/2019 21:35

We had Boyce Avenues version of James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go

londonloves · 10/06/2019 21:36

Sunny side of the street , as covered by Tankus the Henge (live)

Clevs · 10/06/2019 21:37

Rule the World by Take That.

Meggie2008 · 10/06/2019 21:37

We're going between Romeo and Juliet by The Dire Straits, Just Like Heaven by The Cure or White Lightning by The Cadillac Three

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 10/06/2019 21:37

Amazed by lonestar

mrswx · 10/06/2019 21:38

Our list was:

Make you feel my love - Adele

I'm Yours - Jason Mraz

Reet Petite - Jackie Wilson

You Send Me - Sam Cooke

3boysandabump · 10/06/2019 21:39

We also had the Hokey Cokey. It took us long enough to choose the music for the ceremony we'd given in by the first dance

hels1987 · 10/06/2019 21:39

We had You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates. I bloody love that song!

babycakes1010 · 10/06/2019 21:41

Queen best friend

Ginger1982 · 10/06/2019 21:41

A Thousand Years by Cristina Perri.

The words just rang so true for me:

I have died every day waiting for you...all along I believed I would find you...
