tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

For once I've not read the full thread
Dido's Thank you.
Because the lyrics spoke to usand we liked it.
18 years later we're different people but we still like the song and we still remember how much we both liked the song then. Every time I hear It it makes me very misteyed for those 2 young people we once were.
Getting married is a long term promise but it's also a snap shot of who you were and who the people in your life were at that time. You still have amazingly important friends to make, experiences to have, children to come. Don't be afraid to pick something that you might think may not have longevity. The more it means to you right now the more you will look back with fondness.

We had Fall On Me by Andrea and Matteo Bocelli. DH actually picked it knowing that I'm a huge Andrea Bocelli fan. I'd never heard it and he played it to me a few weeks before our wedding. So I learned the Italian verses to sing to him Grin

We tried not to have a first dance, but our BMs requested Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye. Which we had to dance to infront of elderly grandparents, great-aunts and uncles etc. We seriously wanted to curl up and crawl away 😆

ToEarlyForDecorations · 10/06/2019 20:48

Nothing's going to change my love for you - Glen Medeiros

or was it, 'The One' by Elton John as that is 'our' song.

'Unforgettable' by Frank Sinatra was our first dance on honeymoon.

Lilsquish · 10/06/2019 20:50

Thousand Years by Christina Perri followed by Rule The World by Take That

theluckiest · 10/06/2019 20:50

Perhaps unsurprisingly, 'The Luckiest' by Ben Folds!!

When we were stumped for a song, DH called me one day & asked me to listen to it as he had finally 'found the right words'...big soft bugger Grin

The lyrics really are perfect.

BistoBear · 10/06/2019 20:50

@Warmhandscoldheart We had Groovy Kind of Love too 😍😍The words are just perfect ❤️❤️

Dollywilde · 10/06/2019 20:50

Baby I’m Yours - Arctic Monkeys cover.

I was tempted by Til There Was You by the Beatles and with hindsight I’d have probably preferred this.

We left the church to For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder.

Howlovely · 10/06/2019 20:51

Got my mind set on you by George Harrison. The joke being that we had neither a lot of time nor money to do the wedding. We walked back down the aisle to Three Little Birds.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 10/06/2019 20:51

There will be time by Mumford & sons

JustLooking2019 · 10/06/2019 20:52

We didn’t have a first dance but if I’d heard Kodaline’s The One before we got married then it would have been that. It’s perfect

QforCucumber · 10/06/2019 20:52

Al Green - let's stay together.

OxanaVorontsova · 10/06/2019 20:53

Fly me to the moon, Frank Sinatra

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 10/06/2019 20:53

Can’t take my eyes off you - Andy Williams.

My Dh used to sing it down the phone when we had had a drink when we were dating.

Happyspud · 10/06/2019 20:53

Afternoon delight-Anchorman

Search5gee · 10/06/2019 20:54

@PicaK you just blew my mind with how old that song is!!

chuckyeggtimestwo · 10/06/2019 20:54

cafenoir - that’s so funny!

And Glen Medeiros! I remember that song...

We were not taking it seriously.

🤣

chuckyeggtimestwo · 10/06/2019 20:56

Whatelsecouldibecalled - that’s why I want the song I’ve chosen - dp sings it to me in the car!

I wanna be yours - arctic monkeys

It was either this or I wanna make it wit chu - queens of the Stone Age

SlaaartyBaaardFaaast · 10/06/2019 20:59

@NeverTalksToStrangers

That was ours too. Its not her song but we adored her version. My best friend ended up having it too when she married the year after us. Its a stunning song x

Tana433 · 10/06/2019 21:00

Zoom by Fat Larry's Band for 1st dance but i also did a dad/daughter dance to Under The Moon Of Love by Showaddywaddy as me and my dad used to dance to it when i was little. Great memories!

HippyChickMama · 10/06/2019 21:00

My list was:

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack

Amazing by Aerosmith

Wonderful World by Sam Cooke

But I chose all of the music for the ceremony (registry office) so I let dh choose the music for the first dance and we had Just Like Heaven by The Cure

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 10/06/2019 21:01

We had Toto - Hold the Line ( love isn’t always on time)

We were together a looong time, so this was really appropriate. And it’s a great rock to tune.
