tell me your first dance song at your wedding

So its my wedding next week and I’m still in a dilemma over which song to have for our first dance. The one we have chosen so far is an old song and not a typical ‘first dance’ song. I think only older people will really know it as its not a really well known song (although my mum did say it was one of her dads favourites). Now I’m wondering whether to change it to something more well-known.

So...tell me your first dance song and why you chose it. And did you regret it or have a similar dilemma to me i.e. a not typical song? (first world problem i know - this is light-hearted!)

Basically I want you to help me get all romantic and misty-eyed for my wedding!

Wonderful tonight by Eric Clapton! Popular on this thread! Great choice clearly

Montsti · 10/06/2019 20:38

Lonestar - Amazed followed by a more upbeat second song - The Shoop Shoop song😁

spanieleyes · 10/06/2019 20:38

Freebird by Lynyrd Skynrd

Not your normal first song!

GiveMeStrength2day · 10/06/2019 20:38

confussedmisfit - We had that as our first dance last month Smile

19lottie82 · 10/06/2019 20:39

It Must be Love - Madness

WonderTweek · 10/06/2019 20:39

Stolen by Dashboard Confessional. It was so perfect.

SellFridges · 10/06/2019 20:40

The Wannadies You and Me Song.

To the poster who had Annie’s Song, I hope you’re a Blade. If not:

AnybodysDude · 10/06/2019 20:40

With You - Sum 41

Still love it!

icannotremember · 10/06/2019 20:40

Nothing else matters by Metallica.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 10/06/2019 20:41

Ever fallen in love by the Buzzcocks.
Maybe not really appropriate for our first dance but still together 16 years later !
Also had patents dance to My Way by the Sex Pistols.
We had a truly fab wedding.
We sent out a request list to all our guests, put those requests on a CD and the DJ played them .

blubberyboo · 10/06/2019 20:41

U2 with or without you😂
I wanted lone star amazed or the verve Lucky man but then he annoyed me at the reception so I got the dj to change it at last minute

GMtoBe · 10/06/2019 20:42

We had Ed Sheeran Thinking out loud. If we could pick today we'd have Just Like Fred Astaire by James which is a beautiful song and much more 'us'

Warmhandscoldheart · 10/06/2019 20:43

Groovy kind of love sing by Phil Collins.
What's your song choice OP?

Adas18 · 10/06/2019 20:43

You and Me by Lifehouse (Gavin and Stacey fans will recognise!)

Tommysmummy88 · 10/06/2019 20:43

@Chesneyhawkes1 that’s lovely! Love that song!

BathshebaAndGabriel · 10/06/2019 20:44

David Bowie- Absolute Beginners

champagneplanet · 10/06/2019 20:44

The Michael Buble version of The Way You Look Tomight. I don't hate it now but since the day have thought of others i'd have liked more.

I really wanted Waiting For A Star To Fall by Boy Meets Girl (think the end of Three Men and a Little Lady) but people talked me out of it for being too cheesy. I should have just gone with it!

molemonkey · 10/06/2019 20:45

Over and over, by nathan Sykes

Hepte · 10/06/2019 20:45

The you and me song by the wannadies. We fell in love with it very early on in the relationship because it reminded us of us so we were never going to have anything else.

Loulabelle0 · 10/06/2019 20:46

We also had Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton - I didn't realise it was such a popular choice!

Bentley111 · 10/06/2019 20:46

The One - Kodaline

mindutopia · 10/06/2019 20:46

We've only been married 8 years and I truly don't remember. It was a really nice one and I love hearing it. But I couldn't tell you now who sang it or what it's called!

Spanielsanddaughters · 10/06/2019 20:47

Otis redding, these arms of mine
Our Motown band played it :)

chuckyeggtimestwo · 10/06/2019 20:47

blubberyboo I love “with or without you” but the lyrics just aren’t really right for a first dance are they?

M Ward's version of 'Rave on' (originally Buddy Holly)
