To put up and shut up with the transphobia on here?

I am fully supportive of the LGBTQ community and don't feel it is my position to question or undermine those who believe they were born in the wrong body.

And yet i see literally hundreds of intolerant posts on here and say nothing. Probably because I'm worried about being shouted down.

This is part of the problem isn't it? I should speak up.

Does anybody else feel like this or is it just me?

Experiences only a woman can have must create a sense of being a female?

Quite.

Likeazombi · 09/06/2019 00:12

You can have a sense of yourself that's not based in reality.
I often think of myself as a person of average height, I see short people and assume I must be taller than them. I'm genuinely surprised to find I'm shorter than a or the same height as them. I just don't see or feel myself as being 5.1.
I've also suffered with anorexia and disordered eating, poor body image most of my adult life, I'm familiar with my sense of self not matching up with material reality.
That doesn't make my feelings unreal or invalid. But however strong those feelings are doesnt make them true.

moonrises · 09/06/2019 00:14

There is no 'sense' to me be being female, I just am. I do things that are uniquely female but that is a reality not a sense a.k.a a feeling that has no real grounding.

IvanaPee · 09/06/2019 00:14

Fair enough. I think I have a sense of myself as a male so I'm just not understanding.

Mansplaining being a woman is also not making sense to me.

But anyway...

Having periods doesn’t give me a sense of being female. I have periods because I am female. That’s literally it. There is no “sense” or “feeling” about it. It just is. Because of my biological make up. Simple as that.

@LimeKiwi you say for you it’s more than that, ie: female sex means you’re a female.

So what else is it then, for you?

moonrises · 09/06/2019 00:16

X posted with likeazombi who has explained so much better than me.

TheClitterati · 09/06/2019 00:16

I always think I'm surrounded by old people. Then I realised they're about the same age as me. But I still FEEL they are much older even when I know they aren't.

It's my delusion.

aPengTing · 09/06/2019 00:16

Experiences only a woman can have must create a sense of being a female?

I genuinely don’t have a sense of being female.
The only thing that periods cause me to think about are buying tampons and paracetamol.

Trebe · 09/06/2019 00:16

Am I being transphobic? Was that supposed to be to shut me up? No I was going to go down the route of certain things being intrinsic to being a woman, I wasnt arguing for transgenders one way or the other.

CantspellWontspell · 09/06/2019 00:17

Yes they would, as it's nothing to do with what anyone else tells you.
It's just you.

No. A "sense of self" is constructed entirely from language. Sure, you would actually exist as an individuated self, but to experience that you need comparison. If I cannot differentiate between me and my dog via descriptive language, how can I actually know that me and the dog are not one and the same?

We are not one and the same but it is the words that enable me to conceptualize that. That's why words matter and that's why transwomen are not women.

sackrifice · 09/06/2019 00:17

Wasn't calling her racist or homophobic I was making the point that our grandparents were and we now know this was wrong of them and it will be exactly the same for the grandchildren of transphobic people

You and your accusations of transphobia.

Unless you can explain what makes the rapist Karen White a woman - you are just as transphobic as the next person.

LimeKiwi · 09/06/2019 00:18

I'm fairly sure Limekiwi admitted she doesn't think TWAW on this thread

Nope, didn't say that. I did say though that transwomen so far aren't biologically women. That's just science.
Why aren't they women though? Why aren't transmen men?
I am female both body and mind. Nothing to do with what people tell me I am or aren't though.
Maybe I've just got a strong sense of self, I dunno.
Not feelz or whatever. It's more than that, and if anyone can articulate feel free too Smile

LimeKiwi · 09/06/2019 00:18

"to*

Jarnsaxa · 09/06/2019 00:19

Just asking Trebe. People keep saying there's transphobic here but haven't managed to point any out or define it. If you're saying having periods gives someone a sense of female gender, how does that explain transmen?

TheClitterati · 09/06/2019 00:20

Because women are adult human females. And no one has ever changed their sex.

IvanaPee · 09/06/2019 00:20

In other words you can’t actually say what makes you a woman beyond your biology! 😂😂😂

Well it took us a while to get here but acceptance is the first step toward recovery, @LimeKiwi. Congrats!

ReapersHowler · 09/06/2019 00:21

That doesn't make my feelings unreal or invalid. But however strong those feelings are doesnt make them true.

But that doesn't make a transpersons feelings invalid. There can be differences.
"l. Certain brain structures in trans women have been found to be similar to cisgender women's as opposed to cis men's, and trans men's have been found to be similar to cis men's, even controlling for hormone use, which can also cause trans people's brains to become closer to those of cis people of the same gender."

From wikipedia. The brains of transpeople are different from the norm. Somehow, somewhere something has gone wrong for them and they deserve to be able to have that wrongness fixed. Infertile women are helped to have babies, men who can no longer attain or keep an erection are helped to solve that issue and both of those issues can be caused by nature doing as it should i.e aging us out of the ability to give birth. Just because something is one way doesn't mean it has to stay that way.

LimeKiwi · 09/06/2019 00:22

In other words you can’t actually say what makes you a woman beyond your biology!

I've said all along if I had all the answers I'd be rich.

sackrifice · 09/06/2019 00:23

Wikipedia.

Jesus christ. That says it all.

TheClitterati · 09/06/2019 00:23

What is a female mind?

ReapersHowler · 09/06/2019 00:23

You and your accusations of transphobia.

Her message was deleted for transphobia by MNHQ. I'm not the only one seeing it. You just keep going on and on pushing the same points "but muh genetics" It's really rather boring and I'd hope you'd have something better to do on a saturday night then sit here and try and argue that just because you don't like something means it's not real.

CantspellWontspell · 09/06/2019 00:24

Surely the biological effects your 'sense' of being female. Periods and pregnancy are obviously unique to women and surely that must affect your gender sense of being a female? Experiences only a woman can have must create a sense of being a female?

Underlines the knowledge of being female - yes absolutely. Creates a "sense of" - no. I don't intuit my femaleness. I am female because I meet the criteria for that categorisation.

I just feel like me and I have no idea if that feeling is the same for anybody else.

Likeazombi · 09/06/2019 00:24

So far? They never will be.
They are not women because they are men. They were born and grew up as boys, with all the privilege that entails. Its really not a hard concept to grasp.
I don't feel like a woman, funny how men still know how to talk down to me, except me to move over, be quite, make room.
The patriarchal society is telling me I'm a woman and my place in the world with the treatment I get from micro agressions to out and out sexual abuse on a daily basis.
If someone can tell me how to identify out if this shit that would be great.

IvanaPee · 09/06/2019 00:24

Somehow, somewhere something has gone wrong for them and they deserve to be able to have that wrongness fixed.

I agree. Therapy is a good start. Even dressing in feminine clothing.

But infringing on women’s rights and expecting us to just meekly accept it for fear of being called phobic or intolerant? Nah.

You can’t take your rights by shitting on someone else’s.

sackrifice · 09/06/2019 00:25

It's really rather boring and I'd hope you'd have something better to do on a saturday night then sit here and try and argue that just because you don't like something means it's not real.

If it is so boring why are you here?

And yet cannot explain why you think the rapist Karen White is a lady.
