Will not stoop in persecuting Brexiteers. Childish namecalling 'thick', 'racist' 'gammon', and now the vexatious private prosecution against Boris Johnson which was quashed before it even got to court.

OP posts:

It is disingenuous. The government were required by law to set out its position.

Like i said, I'd like to see a figure put on the pro leave propaganda published by tue right wing media, for years, but its not included.

Or the value of Cambridge analystica work thought to have been decisive.

ContinuityError · 08/06/2019 14:02

Funny how Vote Leave keeps quiet about the £0.6 million of public money made available to it by the Government, isn’t it?

twofingerstoEverything · 08/06/2019 14:18

I've seen some goady fuckery on MN in my time, but the OP of this one is right up there with the worst of them.

Clavinova · 08/06/2019 14:29

Like I said, I'd like to see a figure put on the pro leave propaganda published by true right wing media, for years, but its not included.

Yes, I would probably agree with you on this point - not much you can do about 30 years of anti-EU rhetoric in the Daily Fail or the Telegraph etc.

Although I think the pro-remain press/media have indulged in far too much scaremongering and 'blame-Brexit' reporting - half of it is just not believable/false - therefore I am more pro-Leave now than I was before the referendum (I almost voted remain in 2016 - even at the polling station).

After half an hour listening to James O'Brien on LBC - I am definitely not changing my vote.

Alsohuman · 08/06/2019 14:34

You won’t be changing it because you’ve had it. That ship’s sailed.

Clavinova · 08/06/2019 14:44

Let's hope so.

Zipee · 08/06/2019 14:56

Thats because you can't admit you were wrong and JOB points.out quite eloquently that you are.

3 years on and still no benefits to be explained.

bellinisurge · 08/06/2019 15:21

"After half an hour listening to James O'Brien on LBC - I am definitely not changing my vote."

You won't get chance to so don't worry.

Clavinova · 08/06/2019 15:33

That's because you can't admit you were wrong and JOB points out quite eloquently that you are.

Sorry, I disagree - I think half of what he says is nonsense/made up/exaggerated...

I heard him say over and over again (only a week ago) that the UK will have no trade agreements at all - 'zero' - if we leave the EU without a deal - he compared the UK to Mauritania.

However, we have signed a number of continuity bilateral trade agreements with non-EU countries already, transitioned from the EU, and we have another 5 months to sign some more;

DizzyPigeon · 08/06/2019 16:07

Not changing your vote because of JOB is a peculiar stance to take. One radio personality should not be what you base your vote on. That's the funniest thing I've read all day!

Zipee · 08/06/2019 16:10

The comparison is accurate because Mauritania trades mostly with the rest of the world on WTO terms, its the only country to do so. Its a valid rebuttal to those who claim WTO terms will be fine.

That list of countries is not impressive.

bellinisurge · 08/06/2019 16:13

Have we signed a continuity trading deal with our biggest trading partner? The EU. Have we signed a continuity trading deal with any major trade partner? Tick tock.

Cinammoncake · 08/06/2019 16:13

Let's hope all the warnings from economists and other experts are made up then Hmm Have you not stopped to think that remainers aren't just worried for the sake of it You think everything is likely to go swimmingly??? All the evidence is that it will be quite the opposite. But never mind, you dig your heels in and just decide it on the basis of a radio DJ. No need to apologise to the half the country who didn't want this, when it has ruined their lives.

BeautifulWintersMorning · 08/06/2019 16:18

We should definitely stop worrying about ours and our kids' futures and start worrying about Boris and Brexiteers' feelings

bellinisurge · 08/06/2019 16:25

If you find JOB too triggering why don't you listen to some easy listening music. Or birdsong. Faridge is on LBC with lots of soothing no brainer comment if that works for you instead.

twofingerstoEverything · 08/06/2019 18:45

Yeah, but Pigeon, these are people who are happy to vote for a party with no manifesto and no policies, who will vote for a candidate who wants gay people 'cured' and another who thinks breast-feeding women should sit in the corner...

Isatis · 08/06/2019 18:49

*However, we have signed a number of continuity bilateral trade agreements with non-EU countries already, transitioned from the EU, and we have another 5 months to sign some more(

Oh, whoopee. We've got trade agreements with the Faroe Islands and St Vincent and the Grenadines. That will more than make up for losing agreements with trivial little countries like France, Germany, Spain and Italy.

longwayoff · 08/06/2019 18:52

Pascal Lamy, former Director General of WTO, says 'no deal brexit is like jumping off a cliff without a parachute'. But what the hell does he know? See his astonishment listening to Iain Duncan Smith pontificate on brexit benefits. Can't do links but is on YouTube.

DizzyPigeon · 08/06/2019 18:53

Oh, whoopee. We've got trade agreements with the Faroe Islands

I'm sure people will be delighted to have tinned puffin instead of pasta and tinned tomatoes. It's fine! ;)

MiniMum97 · 08/06/2019 19:02

It's not a vexatious prosecution at all. The leave campaign lied during the referendum - plenty of people believed those lies. I see the prosecution as an attempt to uphold the standards of democracy. It should not be ok to blatantly lie about verifiable facts during an election campaign.

However, he's not exactly neutral - wiki tells me he's French, (President Macron wants a European Army and a Federal Europe), an advisor for the transatlantic think-tank European Horizons, currently serving as the Honorary President of the Paris-based think tank, Notre Europe. Previously, he was employed by the EU as Trade Commissioner. Other connections: - Member of the Council for the Future of Europe, Broader European Leadership Agenda, Member of the Advisory Board Centre for European Reform, Member of the Advisory Board European Council on Foreign Relations...

DizzyPigeon · 08/06/2019 19:49

How on earth do you expect anyone to be neutral on Brexit! Confused

twofingerstoEverything · 08/06/2019 20:05

All the pillocks spouting 'No deal, no problem' are, of course, totally neutral and w-a-y better informed that someone with Lamy's credentials. But then, I think we're still 'sick of experts', aren't we?

longwayoff · 08/06/2019 20:10

French???! Faints with sheer horror. A French bloke with a French name sandwich and an opinion based on experience? Crickey, I had no idea, thanks for the information.

Clavinova · 08/06/2019 20:16

That list of countries is not impressive.

The list is a lot longer than I was led to believe - many of the agreements have been signed in the last few weeks/months - with five months to go - others will be signed as soon as we leave the EU.

Have we signed a continuity trading deal with any major trade partner?

Yes, Switzerland - our 7th biggest trading partner (US 1st, China 6th) - Switzerland is our best trading partner for trade surplus. The link also says we have signed mutual recognition agreements with the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
