There aren’t really words to describe how sickened I am by this. In the city I’m proud to live in, in the middle of fucking Pride month, two women have been beaten up because they didn’t want to put on a show for some disgusting men.

Homophobic attacks happen a lot in certain parts of London, a friend of mine and his boyfriend was beaten up by a gang in Stratford and after that I found out from someone in the know said that there are gangs in Newham and Tower Hamlets that are targeting gay couples. This is shocking to see these two ladies in that state, but living in London it isn't really that shocking to be honest. Sad state of affairs.

TheAngryLlama · 08/06/2019 07:32

“Educate yourself” “move along”
Look, if you’re this addicted to ordering women about, therapy is available. Take your issues to a professional and stop boring the rest of us.
So sick of these types on MN

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 08:55

How utterly ridiculous. You’ve both said the same about any mention of attacks on male members of the gay community.😂

Others are saying there is room for discussion of both on this thread, as it happens and is on the increase. You don’t want that though. Hmm

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 09:13

Utterly bonkers. Had my ds in tears last night over the Straight Pride thing in Boston, this attack and the Birmingham protests. He hates himself enough as it is. He is a child, utterly ridiculous that I as his mother should park it and not discuss it simply because he’s male. I kind of get why he feels so isolated.Who knew those suffering bigotry and bullying had to be so divided and restricted as to where and when they can discuss attacks like this.

TheEgregiousPeach · 08/06/2019 09:17

Christ this is a depressing thread. Why is it that anytime women get rightly aerated about the violence committed by men against women (and it is mostly men who commit violent crimes- against women and other men) they are deemed as having a ‘hysterical’ hatred of men? Hysterical? That old chestnut? That term has been used to undermine women and their feelings for years. Fuck right off and get back in your box with your NAMALT nonsense.
The fact that same sex couples ( whether male or female) are being attacked/ targeted like this is appalling and yes I am upset by it. But I’m not hysterical about it- I’m raging that same sex couples are treated like this.

flashbac · 08/06/2019 09:26

I'm just gonna leave this here:

victimfocus.wordpress.com/2018/01/03/stop-asking-me-what-about-men/

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 09:37

Why? On a thread about homophobic attacks it has zilch to do with others simply wishing to mention the homophobic attacks men and boys suffer too.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 09:38

Although obviously gay men are beaten up and killed and its horrific

This case is different in that the women were beaten for not performing (of course they would more than likely been attacked anyway)

The attackers were all young which throws up issues about porn culture and it also throws up subjects like lesbian invisibility etc

So i can see why some people want to keep the subject on this case in particular

Thats not to say that attacks on gay men shouldn’t be discussed but the subject may well need a thread of its own

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 09:39

Thats a crosspost artic

I wasn’t attempting to specifically answer your question

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 09:39

Oh sorry arct1c

MorondelaFrontera · 08/06/2019 09:40

Why is it that anytime women get rightly aerated about the violence committed by men against women ...
they are deemed as having a ‘hysterical’ hatred of men?

they are not, no one said or implied anything of the sort.

It's posters trying to shut up others who see the increasing violence against same-sex COUPLES as a worry and insist that all "MENZ" are evil who are being ridiculous. If I should recommend therapy to someone, I know which ones it would be for frankly. It's not healthy, and it weakens your position so much.

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 09:42

The fact is if my son and a boyfriend had been sitting on that bus they’re have had the same treatment. I think we all know the thugs involved wouldn’t have just ignored them holding hands.

Homophobic attacks in London have doubled in 4 years. We should be discussing that, not who can and can’t discuss their experience of homophobia on this thread.

Dungeondragon15 · 08/06/2019 09:44

This is a ridiculous argument. It was a homophobic attack and they probably would have attacked two men just as much as two women. Attacks on same sex couples are increasing and that is alarming. Stop turning it into something else.

Dungeondragon15 · 08/06/2019 09:46

Cross post Arct1cTern. I agree with you!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 09:46

Has anyone on the thread said they wouldnt have attacked men

Cos i dont think anyone has

There is another thread on the feminist board if anyone is interested

Dungeondragon15 · 08/06/2019 09:53

Has anyone on the thread said they wouldnt have attacked men

No but you seem to think it irrelevant on this thread when it isn't. The women were attacked because they were a same sex couple and therefore it was a homophobic attack.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 10:08

Plese show me where I personally have said it is irrelevant

At no point have i said that

Ive explained that i can see why SOME people want it to stay on the title subject

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 10:09

Really hate it when people attribute opinions to posters when they dont hold them

I see it a lot on mumsnet

GCAcademic · 08/06/2019 10:10

If anyone is actually interested in the women’s own account, they believe the attack took place both because they are a same-sex couple and because they are female:

“The violence is not only because we are women which are dating each other. It’s also because we are women.”

As they were the ones to experience the attack, some weight should be afforded to their claims:

Dungeondragon15 · 08/06/2019 10:17

Plese show me where I personally have said it is irrelevant

You haven't used the words "irrelevant" but your post at 09:38 suggests you think it irrelevant to this thread.

magicfarawaytrees · 08/06/2019 10:28

Unless I'm being thick and I've missed it then why are there no descriptions or CCTV to identify the men? How can they hope to find them?

Dungeondragon15 · 08/06/2019 10:30

Unless I'm being thick and I've missed it then why are there no descriptions or CCTV to identify the men? How can they hope to find them?

They have been arrested.

Oblomov19 · 08/06/2019 10:35

The 4 men were quickly arrested. At least that's something.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 10:35

dungeon

i dont thinks its irrelevant

i have said, i thought clearly, that i can understand why SOME people want to stick to the OP

personally i think homophobic violence increasing is an important subject in and of its self

i would rather discuss it without people alleging that i am derailing this thread as i think it would be a more productive discussion than batting the same circular argument backwards and forwards about whether it should be discussed on this thread

not going to continue arguing about something i havent said and dont think as its boring for me and im sure for you

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 08/06/2019 10:36

The 4 men were quickly arrested. At least that's something.
