There aren’t really words to describe how sickened I am by this. In the city I’m proud to live in, in the middle of fucking Pride month, two women have been beaten up because they didn’t want to put on a show for some disgusting men.

Apparently they are aged between 15 and 18

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2019 18:52

So pleased they have been arrested. I am desperately hoping the questions about what they were doing out at that time of night aren't about to start

Buster72 · 07/06/2019 18:53

." The fact that people are allowed to protest against the no outsiders program doesn't help. It infuriates me that the protests weren't stomped on straight away and that the program was actually suspended in some schools"

Stomping on protest, democracy in action

fairweathercyclist · 07/06/2019 18:55

Just another example of male violence towards women as others have said.

I think this was sexism rather than homophobia. This was women not doing as they were told

Yep. Just lovely. Totally agree it needs to be dealt with as a hate crime.

Stomping on protest, democracy in action

What does it have to do with democracy?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/06/2019 19:08

I rather think thats bustors point

It isn’t democratic

Dungeondragon15 · 07/06/2019 19:36

It isn’t democratic

I think that you are confusing democracy with being allowed to do whatever you want. We live in a democracy which means that our government is elected and everyone gets an equal say in who makes the rules. Once the rules are made you have to abide by them though. In this country, inciting hatred is illegal, for example. Stopping children and teachers from going to school by intimidating them is illegal. It is also not legal to keep your children home from school without a good reason and I don't think that removing them because you don't want them following the equality act would count as a good reason.

I'm another who's very uncomfortable with some posters saying this was a mysogonistic attack and not a homophobic one.

pigsDOfly · 07/06/2019 20:02

Very pleased to hear there has been arrests.

pigsDOfly · 07/06/2019 20:03

*have been arrests.

mokapot · 07/06/2019 20:26

I’m still fearful of holding my partners hand most times. Sad really Sad

SimonJT · 07/06/2019 20:31

@mokapot It’s horrible isn’t it, it’s like being two different people depending on where you are.

saraclara · 07/06/2019 20:36

Gay men are being beaten up on a daily basis.

This is getting more attention because it happened to women. It's horrific of course, but I wonder how many men are reading this news items and wondering why no-one gave a damn when it was them.

QueenBlueberries · 07/06/2019 20:40

The photo is pretty shocking I am sure that without the image it would get less media and social media attention. Some people on Twitter and FB are still saying that it didn't really happen and it's fake. I know gay men are also regular victims of violence but they may not post photos that are as shocking. It makes you wonder.

lboogy · 07/06/2019 20:40

Because it's assumed gay men have equal strength to fight off an attack

Those two women didn't stand a chance against a gang of men

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2019 20:41

What about the men indeed. Let's bring it back to the poor men

SassyBadger · 07/06/2019 20:43

It's clearly both.

MorondelaFrontera · 07/06/2019 20:44

that stupid attitude is not helping anyone.

Educate yourself and see what happens to gay men around the world.

The hysterical hatred against men is so tiresome.

Hammondisback · 07/06/2019 20:49

Isn’t it just horrific? My DD just showed me the story. Can barely believe behaviour like this in 2019. So awful - those poor, poor women.

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 20:51

I'll ignore the near throttling my 14 year old son had with his school tie,the homophobic language and bullying shall I- because he's a boy. Unbelievable.Shock

mokapot · 07/06/2019 20:53

@saraclara

Rubbish: we hear about it all the time. I’m in canada.

mokapot · 07/06/2019 20:54

@saraclara stop making it sexism when it’s homophobia

Ffs

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2019 20:56

No of course not. And I'm really sorry and angry that's happening to your son. But on most threads about bad things happening to women someone usually comes along to remind us it happens to men too, and worse.

StealthPolarBear · 07/06/2019 20:58

I have a son a little younger an djust the thought of him going through that makes me feel murderous. I hope something can change for him, soon.

CornShaunelly · 07/06/2019 20:59

@sassybadger

I agree with you. Some posters have denied the homophobic element though.
