There aren’t really words to describe how sickened I am by this. In the city I’m proud to live in, in the middle of fucking Pride month, two women have been beaten up because they didn’t want to put on a show for some disgusting men.

@saraclara stop making it sexism when it’s homophobia

That's the opposite of what I was doing. The attack was absolutely homophobic. I was responding to the posts that were all about misogyny. It's not that, it's plain homophobia.

It's the news media that's responding differently because they're female. That's where the sexism is.

EmeraldShamrock · 07/06/2019 21:00

Absolutely disgusting.
I can't understand why anyone would do this, whatever happened to live and let live. Angry

NotACleverName · 07/06/2019 21:15

With respect, @MorondelaFrontera, this is a thread about violence against women. Specifically lesbian women.

Your "what about the menz" derailing is neither wanted nor needed.

If you want to talk about violence against gay men you'd be better off starting your own thread.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/06/2019 21:36

I think that you are confusing democracy with being allowed to do whatever you want

Im not confusing it with anything thank you very much

I was pointing out what buster was saying

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 21:46

No if you read the whole of the link in the op it's about homophobic attacks on the whole LGBT community and how they're on the increase.

AngeloMysterioso · 07/06/2019 21:47

Educate yourself and see what happens to gay men around the world.

I'm beginning to think that "educate yourself" are the two most obnoxious words put together. You are not enlightened. We do not need to be educated.

Your "what about the menz" derailing is neither wanted nor needed.

First of all, I am not the one who raised the point, I was replying to one of these ridiculous replies because the hysterical hatred really makes me cringe.

Second of all, it's a public forum, if I feel a point is worth mentioning, I will. You don't have to agree with me, but it's not up to you to rule what people can or can't discuss on any thread.

I don’t know why people are arguing whether it is homophobic or mysogyny. Does it matter? Identity politics at its worst. It’s a bad crime for sure but people get attacked everyday but scumbags like this. I understand to a certain degree why people want to look into the motivation but I’d feel just as sorry for some innocent white bloke getting brutally blungeoned for no reason as the victims here

Caucho · 07/06/2019 22:12

It’s not about the poor menz. It’s about innocently people getting attacked and they suffer the same as anyone. Anyway the argument doesn’t seem to be about anyway. People are having a bun fight about whether the two women were subject to misogyny or homophobia and it’s total bollocks as l don’t think they’d feel better off if was due to either of the two reasons being argued

CornShaunelly · 07/06/2019 22:16

@Caucho

It shouldn't affect the level of sympathy for the victims but if there are rising levels of a particular kind of hate crime, it needs to be acknowledged to be tackled.

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 22:40

Frankly I couldn't give a stuff re the posters who think sympathy should just be reserved for women. Today my son had to read two rather unpleasant news stories that will make him feel shit and fearful of the world he is going to be entering as an adult. You can shove telling me how we should both react to news stories that cause the above.

peachgreen · 07/06/2019 23:42

Why does this thread have to be about men? Why can't it just be about these women, who were the victims of a vicious homophobic attack? I'm not saying we shouldn't care about male victims of violence - of course we should, and just as much - but this thread is about lesbian women and it should be okay for us to just talk about that.

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 23:50

Did you read the link in the op? It isn't just about women, they were picked on because they were a single sex couple the same as single sex male couples get picked on. Attacks against both are increasing.

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 23:52

It should be ok to talk about all homophobic attacks on a thread about a homophobic attacks. Who made you the thread police?

peachgreen · 07/06/2019 23:53

But why do we have to talk about this on that thread? Why can't this thread just be about the fact that two women were victims of a homophobic attack? Why do men have to be brought into it at all?

peachgreen · 07/06/2019 23:54

I'm not being thread police. I'm frustrated that yet again, an issue about lesbians has been co-opted to talk about straight women and men.

Arct1cTern · 07/06/2019 23:56

Because those engaging in homophobia don't differentiate and there really is no need to dictate what can and can't be discussed.Hmm

peachgreen · 07/06/2019 23:59

Yes they do. Yes there is.

Homophibic attacks against lesbians are incredibly underreported and discussed. This should not be diluted. But whenever there's a thread about violence against women, someone comes along to remind us that men have it bad too. It's frustrating.

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 00:11

Oh for goodness sake attacks on gay men are under reported too. They happen all the time and never make it in the news.

peachgreen · 08/06/2019 00:17

Okay. I can't explain it any more clearly. If you can't see why it's frustrating that somebody always has to turn every thread about women - and in this case, a thread about lesbians - into a thread about men then there's not much more I can say.

Arct1cTern · 08/06/2019 00:22

Move along then. Gay men and the straight population have a right to voice their fear and displeasure over homophobia on a thread which includes a link that discusses a rise in homophobic attacks.Throwing a hissy fit because you want people to ignore half the problem seems a tad childish to be honest.

StealthPolarBear · 08/06/2019 06:42

What do you mean by move along?

peachgreen · 08/06/2019 07:00

She means 'stop talking so I can continue to centre men in this conversation unhindered'. The patriarchy at work, conscious or unconscious. But hey, I'm just a woman throwing "a hissy fit", so what do I know?

StealthPolarBear · 08/06/2019 07:19

Shut up lesbians
