Just that really. I don't mean to be goady I've just noticed that when it comes up here, people seem more against it than other social circles I'm familiar with. I think I'm a bit out of the loop as to what the issue is.

If the belief is that they are biological women, then why is their no interest in their rights?

I dont get your point

The feminist board is about womens rights...transmen are women so its all about their rights

Do you mean extra interest...and what rights in particular

sackrifice · 07/06/2019 16:51

Change woman for white people

Wut?

EmpressLesbianInChair · 07/06/2019 16:53

Same for the generalisation that if one transperson commits a crime then we need to be wary of all transpeople.

Women don't have single-sex spaces because we think that all men are dangerous. We have them because we don't know which ones are dangerous and so in situations where we're vulnerable, we have to be wary of them as a class.

Outofinspiration · 07/06/2019 16:59

No, I don't think just people who have had bottom surgery are transwomen, just to be clear

OK so, to be clear, who do you think are transwomen then?

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 07/06/2019 17:03

@LindsayDentonsCat

I also find it odd that transmen are ra rely discussed on mumsnet. If the belief is that they are biological women, then why is their no interest in their rights?

There has been plenty of mention of the rights of transmen. I think I started a thread myself last year (under an old username). Transmen are frequently mentioned on fwr. They aren't the ones kicking and screaming and abusing women though. The male entitlement and privilege is strong in trans women. Bizarrely absent in transmen 🤔

DonkeyHohtay · 07/06/2019 17:03

Under current legislation in Scotland, a woman is anyone who says they are a woman. No surgery, counselling, changing of appearance, using female pronouns or wearing female clothing required.

You just pitch up, tell everyone you're a woman and we all have to blindly accept that.

Except those of us with half a brain don't.

Outofinspiration · 07/06/2019 17:06

Take this phrase and place it in segregated America or Apartheid South Africa. It is the same awful generalisation that was used against integration towards black people. (Change woman for white people). It was not acceptable in that context and isn't in this one. Same for the generalisation that if one transperson commits a crime then we need to be wary of all transpeople. This is the exact thinking which has led to the terrifying racial problems in America.

Change women for white people? Why? Are women oppressors?

OK, once again for those at the back:

98% of sexual crime is carried out by males. Nintey eight per cent. For this reason, in order to try and safeguard and for privacy, in certain situations we segregate males and females, we do not allow males to access females who may be in vulnerable positions. People have generally been absolutely fine and accepting of this for many years and it is absolutely nothing like segregating black and white people.

The question I want answered is how come a man can say 'I feel female inside' and suddenly comes out of that high risk category of 'male' and suddenly becomes 'low risk' and can therefore have access to vulnerable women? And how the fuck is women questioning this comparable to white people not wanting to sit next to black people on a bus?

Datun · 07/06/2019 17:10

Change woman for white people

Um, changing words around isn't actually an argument.

sackrifice · 07/06/2019 17:22

Um, changing words around isn't actually an argument.

Aw come on. You know it was really women that went to Africa and took all the indigenous people there and sold them for slavery, and made a fortune don't you?

Oh hang on...

Datun · 07/06/2019 17:25

Man bitten by poisonous snake.

(Change poisonous snake to kitten).

"Kittens are bloody dangerous"

(Change bitten to cuddled).

Awww. 🐱

sackrifice · 07/06/2019 17:28

True dat.

LimeKiwi · 07/06/2019 18:22

Well said @LindsayDentonsCat

Datun · 07/06/2019 18:25

Lol. Complete waste of time

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 07/06/2019 18:30

Change woman for batman and transwomen to Catman.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/06/2019 18:35

Plopper

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/06/2019 18:54

Drawing a parallel to racism doesn’t work. Equally, we can point out the offensiveness of a white person identifying as ‘trans-race’ and insisting that they are black and are in fact more oppressed than black people and that black people need to centre them, a white person, in their discourse and activism because of their internal conviction that they are actually black. That rings a lot more true than ‘women are like the oppressors in apartheid South Africa’ but funnily enough, it never ever gets addressed by trans activists. Something tells me that Lindsay and Lime won’t be addressing this parallel to race because it’s too uncomfortable for them and they can’t rebuff it. They can’t argue that trans-race is in any way different to transgender. We can, however, very effectively argue all the ways in which feminists are not equivalent to racist oppressors.

Datun · 07/06/2019 19:11

They can if they, conveniently, substitute words. Or address the way you have asked them, instead of what you have asked them.

And, of course, every single time this does not get addressed, people see it for what it is.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 07/06/2019 19:17

people see it for what it is

Funnily enough if you substitute 'is' for 'isn't' here..... It means the same.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/06/2019 07:00

Change woman for batman and transwomen to Catman.

Did you write that with a song in mind, Captain ?

Cos I now have an earworm

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/06/2019 07:01

And, of course, every single time this does not get addressed, people see it for what it is. Bears repeating, should anyone think engaging with them is a waste of time Smile

LimeKiwi · 08/06/2019 08:51

Works the other way round too. Shows up for what it really is Smile

BertrandRussell · 08/06/2019 09:09

“LimeKiwi-can your share your views on women’s sport, rape with a penis being reported as a female crime and women sharing spaces in a rape crisis centre with male bodied people?”

SarahH12 · 08/06/2019 09:21

I haven't read the entire thread so sorry if this has already come up. It appears to me from what I've seen here over the years that MN is only anti trans when it comes to trans women. Or at least there only seems to be threads and huge outrage about trans women.

If MN is pro women, what about those who identify as trans men?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 08/06/2019 09:25

trans men

Trans men are women.

sackrifice · 08/06/2019 09:26

If MN is pro women, what about those who identify as trans men?

Perhaps simply read the entire thread?

It appears to me from what I've seen here over the years that MN is only anti trans when it comes to trans women

That's because the problem is men. However they 'identify'. Because males as a class are dangerous to females as a class.

Hope that helps.
