Last night at 4am, DP & I were woken by a phone call on his phone. He answered and someone told him 'I'm going to kill you, i'm going to slit your throat and sleep with your mrs'.

This evening, another call from the same voice 'is this (DP's name), i'm going to come and smash your house' and then DP put the phone down.

Both calls from blocked number. We called 101 but because it's not a significant amount of calls, they won't start an investigation yet and to just ring 999 if anyone dodgy is outside.

DP has gone to bed and i'm fucking petrified. We have done nothing to no one which would cause death threats. Part of me wants to believe it's just someone being stupid with him/us but I can't help worry someone is going to come.

How do I manage this anxiety in the meantime?

Bluerussian · 03/06/2019 22:48

I'm so sorry you've been frightened, I know I would be too in same position but I imagine it was just a hoax call, akin to people who phone random numbers and talk obscenities. So please try to relax, unless the caller knew what number he was ringing and made note of it, you're unlikely to receive another such call.

You did right to telephone the police btw.

CaptSkippy · 03/06/2019 22:48

Start recording the calls for evidence.

You said you were broke, so I am guessing there is no chance of installing a security camera by your front door?

Notcontent · 03/06/2019 22:49

It’s very unlikely it’s some random psycho killer.

It’s either:

  • a stupid prank: or
  • a threat from someone your DP knows. Is there any chance your DP could be hiding something from you? Drugs? Debts owed to someone dodgy?
MissAi · 03/06/2019 22:50

Is that what they said exactly?

Some of these prank "apps" follow a sort of script.

TheoriginalLEM · 03/06/2019 22:51

Horrible. Must be someone he knows

Dontthinkofthegame · 03/06/2019 22:52

Thing is, if someone was genuinely going to come and murder you in your sleep I really don’t think they would warn you beforehand tbh. (Why give you time to call the police/arm yourselves/have loads of big burly mates round/just generally be ready for them)
I know that’s probably not very comforting but I really think it’s someone trying to scare the shit out of you rather than actually having any real malicious intent.

ArtOfGettingBy · 03/06/2019 22:53

@Bluerussian 2 separate phone calls and they knew his name. It's not random.

@MissAi yes, definitely not a script or an app.

@Notcontent definitely no secret people he could have pissed off. We're always together, absolutely no secretiveness, same circle of friends, together every night out. He isn't hiding anything.

Biscusting · 03/06/2019 22:53

and you have something like a hammer to hand

I’m sorry but really!!? A hammer!

Hope this gets resolved OP. I believe it’s more likely someone being very stupid with no real plans to carry out any threats.

TheDarkPassenger · 03/06/2019 22:54

It’s a website. My friends did it to me!

SimplySteveRedux · 03/06/2019 22:54

So sorry OP, I'd be scared too.

"Sleep with your mrs" is a very strange term. I'm sure we can all think of more sinister ways to say that. I'd think your DH knows this person. This isn't some unknown.

TheDarkPassenger · 03/06/2019 22:55

Prank dial or something it’s called

SimplySteveRedux · 03/06/2019 22:56

and you have something like a hammer to hand

I’m sorry but really!!? A hammer! *

I'm sorry, but if someone enters my home, my safe place, without invitation then all bets are off. I think a hammer is appropriate tbh.

ASauvignonADay · 03/06/2019 22:56

I would just make sure all your doors and windows etc are properly locked. I wouldn't answer the phone if it rings from a blocked number (I never do anyway). And have your phone ready to ring 999 if there is anything suspicious again.

LateVictorian · 03/06/2019 22:57

Like other pp have said if you feel you may of crossed someone please call the police however as scary and threatening as it may seem the person(s) are just trying to scare you which on there part will be a laugh (they are obviously thick and don't realise the consequences of such behaviour can lead them in). It does seem very scary (from personal experience) especially when you have no idea whom or what it may be a result of I would still log it, keep calm and carry on. Let's face it though if someone was going to cause you any harm they would not call or leave any evidence at all. Most of the time seems like petty stupid individuals who have nothing else to do.
Do not worry but keep vigilant the truth will always come out anyway of where it has come from, why and whom.. when it does please press charges.

IABUQueen · 03/06/2019 22:59

How horrible ... I’d go stay somewhere else until resolved..

Also, I would keep a kitchen knife under my pillow. Painballing gun near the door. . Gosh this is scary...

Plz stay safe!

CarolDanvers · 03/06/2019 23:00

Not sure I understand why having a hammer to hand is such a ludicrous suggestion under the circumstances.

MrsHass · 03/06/2019 23:00

Fucking hell, i had shivers down my spine reading that. No wise words unfortunately, but I’d be feeling the same way as you.
If the caller has used your DP’s name then I’d also be inclined to think that your DP knows more than they’re letting on...

ThePerturbedPenguin · 03/06/2019 23:01

You can download an app which records calls. Could be helpful

A hammer - what, to give an intruder a weapon to use against you?

Aridane · 03/06/2019 23:02

DarkPassenger - link, link!

Pgqio · 03/06/2019 23:04

Why do people persist with this "press charges" nonsense. The op is in no position to do any such thing.
Op sorry you're going through this, I hope the nasty coward gets fed up soon and leaves you alone.

Mysleepthiefslept · 03/06/2019 23:04

How scary Shock

PixieDust26 · 03/06/2019 23:04

😦 genuinely terrifying! Can see why you're scared I'd be a nervous wreck!
Rubbish to know they threatened to slit your DP's throat yet the police say as it's only happened twice etc wtf!
Stay safe! And as PP have suggested I'd defo sleep with some sort of bat/knife!

MeltedCrayons · 03/06/2019 23:05

Omg I would be absolutely bricking it!
Really there is nothing the police can do?
