It's just that question really.

OP posts:

You obviously think you can mind read!

I'm going by what you yourself have consistently said on the thread Confused

insidev · 02/06/2019 13:55

Grin such bullshit

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 13:55

Not at all. Just reading the words that you have written

Cross posted with this - exactly!

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 13:56

grin such bullshit

What is? Read the thread. It's all there.

What-like “With the usual caveats about women who would prefer to see a male HCP”?

Stuff like that?

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 14:05

What-like “With the usual caveats about women who would prefer to see a male HCP”?

But what you are ignoring are the unintended consequences of your proposal. The caveat of women who prefer to see a male Dr don't exist in the example that I gave of the female Dr who fits IUDs in my surgery. In essence, they have gone along with your default and nominated a female Dr but that has actually removed choice from many women who don't want to see her.

That would be replicated elsewhere. Rather than having access to the best HCPs we would be limited to only female HCPs.

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 14:06

What-like “With the usual caveats about women who would prefer to see a male HCP”? Stuff like that?

How does that work though if it was the segregation you said upthread?
Or when you said things like periods should just be between females? How does that work for say a teenager who's mum had gone away for a bit and was just with her dad?

S1naidSucks · 02/06/2019 14:07

Admit it, BertrandRussell, you’re enjoying this now, aren’t you? Grin

Outanabout · 02/06/2019 14:09

S1naidSucks In a nutshell. With the objective of driving everyone else off the thread. It works because who can be bothered engaging with goady fuckers?

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 14:10

This, I don't want to be stuck with a crap doctor if there's a perfectly good one I'm suddenly not able to see anymore.
It's taking away the choice.
If you want a specific sex, ask for one. Don't take the choice away from others though which is what it would do in this case.
It should be get who you're given unless you specifically specify male/female and then of course your choice should always be respected and you given a female dr if you wish.

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 14:13

It works because who can be bothered engaging with goady fuckers?

This makes me laugh (in a sad haha way, not funny haha.)
Seriously, how is it being goady if you have a different viewpoint?!
I have always said the choice should be there. If you say you have no problem seeing a male doctor you get told you're a man in disguise (see the Monty Pythonesque sketch midthread) or get told that you're taking the choice away from others.
How when I've said we should always be able to choose?
Sex segregating for some things would remove choice, why can't you see that?
It's not being goady to point that out.

Jinxed2 · 02/06/2019 14:20

I am. A male midwife delivered my third baby, pretty sure I pooed myself as well BlushGrin

Outanabout · 02/06/2019 14:22

Oddly, nobody has accused me of being goady, although I've talked about the various male HCPs I've seen and liked. I guess it's 'the way you tell 'em'.

Redpostbox · 02/06/2019 14:24

Yes I would be very happy for a male healthcare worker in any situation. I am female.

LimeKiwi · 02/06/2019 14:25

Maybe more like because you haven't questioned the genuine flaw in the argument of wanting sex segregation for "some things" and saying that periods should only be between females.
If it's goady to ask someone a question that they're not going to want to think about too much then meh, so be it then.

Redpostbox · 02/06/2019 14:25

To be honest though the NHS is so understaffed and overworked I am just happy there is anyone prepared to work in it.

Craiglang · 02/06/2019 14:26

I've had numerous intimate examinations done by male HCPs. Throughout my infertility journey and pregnancies, most were male doctors. I recently had a breast exam done by a male doctor. It didn't bother me for one second. They're professionals, they've seen it all before. However I am an assertive individual and if I did find myself in a situation I was uncomfortable with I'd like to think I would speak out.

However. I absolutely support a woman's right to have access to a female HCP. If you don't feel comfortable having an examination done by a male, then you should be able to choose to have a biologically female nurse or doctor without having to justify or explain why.

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2019 14:27

“Or when you said things like periods should just be between females? How does that work for say a teenager who's mum had gone away for a bit and was just with her dad?”

I actually said that men and boys should be educated about periods but that I thought most girls would prefer to talk about them with a woman.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 02/06/2019 14:27

I may have misread this whole thing, but

Don't take the choice away from others though which is what it would do in this case.

I don't think this has been suggested? Have seen someone say that females should be default for certain stuff, but thats not taking the choice away from anyone as if there was a decent male doctor you wanted to see, you could do so? Fairly sure its not been suggested that it can only be females and noone can request any different..which would obviously be taking the choice away.

Might have misunderstood this whole thing though, not having too good a day tbh.

Namechangerextraordinare101 · 02/06/2019 14:31

In my experience (I work in a breast clinic) 99.9% of women are happy to see a male radiologist or surgeon. Obviously all mammograms are performed by a female hcp anyway. Sometimes it isn't always possible but we always try and accommodate if we can and no fuss is made about it.

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 14:31

Yep, this.

It's so interesting how arguing for choice, rather than removal of choice, is what gets you labelled as goady.

Meanwhile, posting a series of ever increasingly goady sarcastic posts appears to be fine and totally acceptable.

CaptainBrickbeard · 02/06/2019 14:32

disgusting comments from stalwarts of the FWR board

I know, right? Those pesky women having opinions on sexism and patriarchy! When everyone knows feminism is all about choice! And our choices are made against the backdrop of a TOTALLY equal society ergo all of our choices are not influenced by a misogynistic society. Of course it’s a shame of a woman chooses to inconvenience a man, like those irritating women deliberately denying nice male midwives the chance to develop their chosen career so we could just mention that to them - it’s not like women are socialised to make allowances and be nice so it won’t put any undue pressure on them if we encourage them to put the man’s feelings first. It’s her choice, after all! And choice is the sacred thing. Like all those happy hookers, freely choosing sex work! God, it’s just a choice of career like any other. Women who disagree are so prudish! It’s all about our totally free choice in this totally equal world. Like, if anything, it’s really gone a bit too far and I think it’s men who get discriminated against now... Women just have so many choices!

Anyway, sorry, I don’t support any choice anymore because I am totally backing Bertrand’s Alan Rickman leg iron healthcare system now. Just my choice!

BertrandRussell · 02/06/2019 14:33

“Fairly sure its not been suggested that it can only be females and noone can request any different..which would obviously be taking the choice away.”

There was one scenario outlined when a GP practice could only afford to have one doctor trained to insert coils and chose the woman GP who was unpopular with patients. Which seems to me like a least worst solution.

DecomposingComposers · 02/06/2019 14:33

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole

A couple of us have given examples of where this idea is being used though - instances where the make GP has refused to do certain things because only the female Dr does them. So in those cases, the choice is removed.

S1naidSucks · 02/06/2019 14:35

Might have misunderstood this whole thing though, not having too good a day tbh. TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole

You haven’t misunderstood, some posters just want to deliberately twist the meaning of BertrandRussell’s posts. Either that or they are lacking in comprehension skills. 🤷‍♀️
