It's just that question really.

Personally yes. I never request to see a female doctor, I put my trust in the HCP regardless of gender.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 31/05/2019 19:07

No, i always ask for a female if it is a more personal issue. If it is to do with periods, UTI's, or things that require undressing, i wouldn't be comfortable witha male.

aibutohavethisusername · 31/05/2019 19:08

I had a procedure this afternoon that involved a camera looking up my bladder. The Dr was male and that was ok with me. His colleagues were female. He was the one who put the anaesthetic on and controlled the camera.

Loopytiles · 31/05/2019 19:09

I have had male gynae drs, gp, counsellor, obstetrician, theatre nurses talking me through C sections, and was all fine.

But had a male nurse take a pre-op heart test, was done topless. He didn’t explain it, eg the need to be topless, and was alone with him. Didn’t like that at all.

User10fuckingmillion · 31/05/2019 19:09

No it really depends

sweeneytoddsrazor · 31/05/2019 19:10

If there is something wrong I just want to be made better dont care if its male or female as long as they know what they are doing.

JacquesHammer · 31/05/2019 19:10

I would be.

I also believe it should always, always be available to every woman that she can choose to a see a biologically female HCP if she chooses.

Haggisfish · 31/05/2019 19:10

Yes.

Lyricallie · 31/05/2019 19:10

Yea doctor is a doctor. I was in getting antibiotics and asked him for thrush medicine whilst I was there no embarrassment. I just tell myself they've seen it all before.

Fairylea · 31/05/2019 19:11

Yes.

GreenTulips · 31/05/2019 19:11

I’ve only asked for a female doctor when DD under 16 needed examining

No issue otherwise

palahvah · 31/05/2019 19:12

Yep totally fine

TeenTimesTwo · 31/05/2019 19:12

No.
Would want female HCP for smear tests, mammograms, period issues.
And just in-case you're interested, that's biologically female, not just 'identifying as'.

IcelandicYoghurt · 31/05/2019 19:12

No
It depends on the situation.

TastingTheRainbow · 31/05/2019 19:13

I personally am happy with a male HCP in any situation I can think of. However I absolutely believe that women have the right to request female HCPs if they wish for any / all procedures.

ghostyslovesheets · 31/05/2019 19:13

I don't mind at all (chest x ray today was with a male) but in some circumstances I like women to be part of the team (such as having a colposcopy) they just made me feel more relaxed

Pearlfish · 31/05/2019 19:14

I think I personally would be, yes. However I fully support the right of any woman to request a female HCP for any reason (eg religion or simply personal preference).

WednesdaySpinner · 31/05/2019 19:14

Yes, I would be fine with a male doctor. What would matter to me most is whether they are kind and sympathetic and understand - I was having some very personal issues and it was a male doctor who finally got to the bottom of it, having been fobbed off by female GP’s previously.

amy85 · 31/05/2019 19:14

Doesn't bother me a HCP is a HCP I don't care if they are female or male

LittleAndOften · 31/05/2019 19:14

Hmm not sure I'd like a smear test done by a male nurse, it's a very intimate environment to be in. However for my emcs I had several male HCPs examine me and I couldn't have cared less. It was a busy environment with many people though, I think that made a difference.

PollyEsterblouse · 31/05/2019 19:15

I've recently been looking for a female breast consultant: I'd like a checkup, and feel deeply uncomfortable with the idea of a man touching and assessing them.

(I'm also fed up with male gynaecologists, but that's because the last one was creepy and patronising, and the one before that had sausage fingers.)

bengalcat · 31/05/2019 19:15

Nope not bothered

BickBock · 31/05/2019 19:16

I generally don’t have a problem with male doctors. However there is one male GP at my surgery who is completely useless and looked very uncomfortable when I asked him to check my episiotomy stitches at my 8 week check. He had a cursory glance and said it was fine. It absolutely was not fine. So any gynae issues I now ask to see a female GP (mainly so I don’t have to say I don’t want to see him!)

I was also given an internal examination by a male hcp (not even sure he was a doctor!), without an explanation or a chaperone, when I was c.20, with suspected appendicitis. I didn’t really think anything of it at the time (I was very unwell), but thinking now I’m not really sure it was appropriate or necessary Confused

Ihatehashtags · 31/05/2019 19:16

Yes

BreconBeBuggered · 31/05/2019 19:16

I don't mind, but I've had male doctors request a female chaperone before they perform intimate examinations/procedures. Don't know if this is standard practice.
