To be delighted That Leave Have Lost

I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

The Brexit Party got one million less votes than the Revoke petition

You really are desperate. Are you the OP?

There are people, who voted leave, who didn't vote in the EU elections - mainly because they would not vote for Farage or UKIP. There was nobody else for them to vote for. Labour and The Tories don't deserve a vote. All they have proved is neither are fit to run a race, never mind a country. All other parties are staunch remain.

That does not mean they won't put their X against leave, should there be a 2nd referendum.

Why are you dragging an inconsequential petition into this?

placemats · 27/05/2019 13:26

howwudufeel

I can smell shit a mile off.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 13:28

I have no idea what you mean placemats

placemats · 27/05/2019 13:30

It seems Alliance and Sinn Fein have two seats in Northern Ireland.

Two remain parties.

placemats · 27/05/2019 13:31

Mind you Northern Ireland is probably of no consequence.

Scotland pro Remain. Probably of no consequence.

Ain't that right?

Violetparis · 27/05/2019 13:31

Am I the only one on here who thinks the OP is a troll ? Confused

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2019 13:33

There really isn’t any point in comparing the clear win to the petition

Where do the other parties results tally with the petition? Lower still. Pointless

ScreamingLadySutch · 27/05/2019 13:34

IntheHeatofLisbon "I was talking specifically about Farage and Robinson, who have support from some who voted leave but not all. "

but it was still a slur. Whether you like it or not, Farage seems to have the mood of a lot of people.
Robinson is a complete non entity as the results show.

Just don't diss people that you don't like or disagree with. How hard is it?

Shmithecat2 · 27/05/2019 13:37

@Violetparis I've got to admit, that was my first thought.

jacksonmaine · 27/05/2019 13:38

Hedonistic”? I hope you’re getting a dictionary for Christmas- or sooner, if poss

Nope well aware of what it means hun.

ScreamingLadySutch · 27/05/2019 13:45

Janet Daly in the Telegraph has actually backed OPs point:

"Message to all those demanding a second referendum: you’ve just had it. Or, at least, you’ve had the clearest possible indication of what its result would be.

After three years of sound and fury, bloodcurdling threats, diatribe and disputation the country’s position is – almost exactly where it was three years ago. The share of the vote won by the brand new party which argues for the hardest possible Brexit is virtually identical to the combined votes of the two parties, the Lib Dems and Greens, who support Remain.

Since we must assume that at least some proportion of those voting for the two latter parties were actual Lib Dem and Green supporters as opposed to those who were treating them simply as proxies for the Remain cause, and that a proportion of those who voted Conservative or Labour would favour a softer kind of Brexit than the one advocated by Nigel Farage’s outfit the result is – almost weirdly – identical to the 2016 referendum: the Leave vote is a few points ahead of Remain.

So we are now precisely where we were then. As somebody once said, nothing has changed. The real news of the night is that Labour got a worse kicking than the Tories and that they have responded to it in a peculiarly stupid way."

Genevieva · 27/05/2019 13:48

Leave didn't lose. They got more seats than any other parliament in the EU elections. Plus there is more than one way to believe in leave, with the Brexit Party and UKIP only representing people who prefer a WTO Brexit. There are leave voters who remained loyal to the Conservative and Labour parties because, for them, party loyalty and a wider range of issues was an important consideration in these elections. It wasn't a referendum.

My main concern is the Scotland v England disparity. As someone with family on both sides of the border I have always put that union ahead of my views on the EU. My Grandfather was a proud Scots war veteran and would despair at the lack of solidarity between the constituent parts of the UK.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/05/2019 13:49

It was a scandal that many EU citizens living here could not vote in the UK Euro scandals. If they had been able to, there could have been no doubt that REMAIN would have won.

Why should non citizens have a say in a referendum about a country that they don't have citizenship with?

Oh I forgot, its so that you can rig the ballot.

TheAngryLlama · 27/05/2019 13:49

Looking forward to hearing what’s hedonistic about being pro-remain then. It certainly hasn’t felt like that, but then I’ve never had the benefit of an explanation from someone with your particular way with words.
Hun.
Grin

Violetparis · 27/05/2019 13:50

Shmithecat2 pleased it's not just me Grin. I think the OP is just talking nonsense to wind people up.

TheAngryLlama · 27/05/2019 13:51

Labour got a worse kicking than the tories - what the hell kind of dope is she smoking?? I mean I’d like that to be true. But it’s not.

jacksonmaine · 27/05/2019 13:51

Then you will understand subtle irony Llamy x

Genevieva · 27/05/2019 13:52

@ScreamingLadySutch How did Jane Daly work out that Labour got a wore kicking than the Conservatives?

placemats · 27/05/2019 13:54

To state that the Labour Party got a worse kicking than the Tories is to deny reality and spout fake news.

Southwestten · 27/05/2019 13:55

So op you think elderly people shouldn’t have the vote. At what age should their vote be removed? 60? 70?
Or maybe anyone who took early retirement in their 50s?

Alsohuman · 27/05/2019 13:57

Janet Daly writes for The Telegraph, she twists facts to suit her agenda. The Tories got a worse drubbing than Labour on any measurement.

Hizz · 27/05/2019 13:58

What this vote shows is the country is divided and polarised. No second vote will change that - whatever side wins it will be by a narrow margin
This^^

Turnout in the 2016 referendum was 72%. I can't find an exact figure but it looks like the turnout on this MEP election was well below 40%.

So who didn't vote and why?

Certainly some people who didn't actually see this as a second referendum and aren't much interested in the European parliament.
I think many Brexit voters who are so annoyed that their vote was ignored they won't vote again.

Whichever side you're on whichever way you spin in the country is split.
Not only that the split in England is very much London v the rest.
If there was another referendum I suspect the result would be very similar to the last one. If there was another referendum I do feel that voting should be compulsory and 16 -17 year olds should be included.

I cannot see a way through this that will unite the country and heal the rifts.
For the record as it seems we are all one or the other - I voted remain and Lib Dem but honestly for the sake of democracy I'm leaning towards leave.

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2019 13:58

The Cons got trounced, the journalist shouldn’t blatantly make up her own narrative
Also pointless!

Alsohuman · 27/05/2019 14:03

It’s a Tory paper, what do you expect?

Shoppingwithmother · 27/05/2019 14:03

I thought that at about 2am, VioletParis but I got deleted by Mumsnet for saying it!
