To be delighted That Leave Have Lost

I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

Thanks piggy , I couldn't see them on any maps and thought if anyone deserves a vote it's them and NI!

RosaWaiting · 27/05/2019 11:40

Bertrand thanks.

my sister is one who would be a green Leaver and she would say there's nothing to stop the UK creating their own legislation.

yes, the fact that there was no Brexit planning at all is still amazing.

now I suspect we will go back and forth on the issue for years without achieving anything.

donotcovertheradiator · 27/05/2019 11:41

Prof Curtis has just said on BBC News that Remain has a bit of an advantage and points out that young people who would have buoyed that up didn't get a chance to vote or, those that were 18 or so, probably didn't vote.

I'm glad academics agree with me. Maybe I'm not so thick after all!

Leave LOST and that is the view of most intelligent commentators on the media today so let's not lose heart!

Jeremy couldn't even win his own backyard!

Nor could Theresa May.

DarlingNikita · 27/05/2019 11:42

howwudufeel, it's a legitimate point about disenfranchisement, rather than 'chaos'.

It is interesting that arch-Corbynistas John McDonnell and Diane Abbott have now started calling for a second ref. Abbott in particular must have got a fright about the close result in her constituency, which is usually as Labour as it gets.

Bearbehind · 27/05/2019 11:43

Leave LOST and that is the view of most intelligent commentators on the media today so let's not lose heart!

OP, your argument is completely flawed - you can’t claim Leave lost whilst stating Remain need to be listened to when they got about the same numbers.

ASMRLover · 27/05/2019 11:43

@donotcovertheradiator you seem to be ignoring the fact these elections allowed EU citizens living in the UK to vote. These people were not granted a vote in the referendum, and very likely voted for remain parties.

placemats · 27/05/2019 11:44

I voted Green and delighted a seat was gained in the North West. Congratulations to the Lib Dems as well.

Northern Ireland is projected to return two remain candidates, Sinn Fein and Alliance. The third is currently up for debate.

Clearly the appetite now is that leave have lost. YANBU OP.

BertrandRussell · 27/05/2019 11:45

“she would say there's nothing to stop the UK creating their own legislation.”

Nothing at all- except that our MPs tend to have significant business interests and environmental legislation costs business money.

MissUGirl · 27/05/2019 11:45

That'll be why a giant (American funded) incinerator is being built in Tory heartland Bedfordshire then.

And this is happening while the UK is still a member of the EU. So I don't see this helping the Remain argument.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/05/2019 11:46

donotcovertheradiator

Are we, as Gina Miller pointed out, to ignore their voices!!!

That would depend on why they didn't vote. if they are a part of third of the electorate that CBA, then they had their chance.

If they are expats outside of the 15 yr time that they are allowed to vote, then no they knew the rules.

If there was an error that stopped them from voting then they may have a point.

placemats · 27/05/2019 11:48

I hope Scotland get the referendum they deserve. The first was based on the UK and Northern Ireland staying in the EU and I hoped Scotland would stay. Now we know that was a lie when Cameron, the fucking tool, put a referendum to the nation and then jumped ship.

Go Scotland! And I also hope that this result leads to Ireland being reunited via a referendum.

Peregrina · 27/05/2019 11:48

I think it's like the last GE where everyone tried to claim that 80% voted for Brexit, but in fact both major parties lost. So whatever they were voting for, it wasn't necessarily that.

I must say, I see no way out of the current impasse. I will be surprised if over the course of the next five years the Brexit vote doesn't go the way of UKIP.

donotcovertheradiator · 27/05/2019 11:48

Pardon!!!!! It was a scandal that many EU citizens living here could not vote in the UK Euro scandals. If they had been able to, there could have been no doubt that REMAIN would have won.

In my eyes-and the eyes of most commentators-that is the case anyway but it would have done away with those who want to deny this FACT by saying the Brexit Party won. There would have been no ambiguity to exploit. at all

DarlingNikita The people affected could be so small that statistically it makes little or no difference to the outcome. What does Gina Miller want? For the vote to be declared null and void? In the meantime we have to go forward decisively because too many people’s lives are in limbo.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 11:50

How many is ‘many’ OP?

donotcovertheradiator · 27/05/2019 11:52

Yes, I think Gina would like the Referendum declared null and void and she is RIGHT!

She is highly intelligent and is trying to save this country from suffering. She is a bloody heroine. A woman not involved in politics who rose up to try and right an injustice. Why isn't she a Dame...she is a damn sight braver than Emma Thompson,

OP posts:
Hotterthanahotthing · 27/05/2019 11:53

I'm a leaver and voted Green for Climate change and I expect that is the main reason for voting for them If you allowed young people to vote(though most would vote the same as their parents)maybe they wouldn't go for tactical voting ,if so many would vote Green.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 11:54

Are you unwell OP? There is no chance the election will be declared null and void. The best people can expect is some compensation from their local council for messing up their details.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 11:55

And why is Gina Miller’s opinion more important than other people’s OP?

donotcovertheradiator · 27/05/2019 11:57

Oh Ok. That's the line is it? Throw around accusations of someone being 'unwell' if they disagree with you. Lovely! What next, do I have ASD or Autism? Don't hold back now!

No, I'm fine thanks you as are the BBC and the political commentators who all agree that Brexit-in real terms-lost. And if thinking Gina Miller is a heroine makes me unwell...…..

OP posts:
Justanotherlurker · 27/05/2019 11:58

I think OP has certainly put to bed the idea that Remainers are all highly intelligent..

placemats · 27/05/2019 11:58

I still can't get my head around a leaver voting Green.

I call out bullshit.

Kazzyhoward · 27/05/2019 11:59

Uh? Neither Tory nor Labour stood on a "remain" platform, so you can;t count their votes as being against Brexit. In fact both stood for Brexit but on different terms, so in fact, if anything you have to regard Labour and Tory votes as Brexit. The only Remain party was Libdem which came second to Brexit.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 12:00

I meant it kindly OP. You seem very upset. We are all desperately worried about the future but your posts seem hysterical.
