To be delighted That Leave Have Lost

I know it looks as if Brexit have won but in every single case, if you add up all the votes secured by the other parties then together they have more votes than Brexit. That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

All this reminds me of the old adage that goes something like 'people use statistics like a drunk uses a lamppost; for support rather than illumination'.

Dana28 · 27/05/2019 08:20

Farage was the only person standing for what the majority of Britons want. Simple as that.
Remain, second referendum, people's vote are all dead in the water.

duffeldaisy · 27/05/2019 08:22

"How many people seriously thought I want to remain in Europe so I will vote Green."

I did.
I normally vote Labour for General Elections, but wanted to vote with a clearly remain party this time to show my feelings on Brexit.
I went with Green because their policies are close to the left, and because I care about the environment too.

howwudufeel · 27/05/2019 08:23

I made it clear in my post that I would never vote for Farage. He is however in my opinion the most talented politician in the UK. That’s why I fear him. Dismissing him as an idiot is stupid. Open your eyes.

Gigglinghysterically · 27/05/2019 08:26

The Brexit party formed only 6 weeks ago secured almost one third of the vote. However, you voted in the EU referendum, there is no way this can be seen as anything other than a big win for that party.

So, OP, yes, YABU to consider they have lost. You are also BVU to take notice of Alistair Campbell, a man involved in the deceptive dossier that made the case for us entering into an illegal war with Iraq.

MrsDrudge · 27/05/2019 08:26

But if you do the same sums using the same principle and add Brexit and UKIP results together, the Leavers get even more majority

Allhailthesun · 27/05/2019 08:27

The point, all hail, is that ever since the referendum, people like you have wanked on about the “will of the people” conveniently ignoring the huge block of the people who don’t want this.
Er no. There was a vote. No one has to mention will of the people unless the vote is consistently argued against. If Remain had won you would have “ignored”the Leavers. You wouldn’t be saying well nearly half of you want to leave so we will think about it.

By what right does the Brexit contingent excommunicate me from the people?
It doesn’t. Lots of political parties want to Remain.

If you want to a lemming, fine. Drag me off the cliff with you and I’ve a right to be pissed off.
If the bog eyed brexiteers trash this country bus no deal they will I think pay a price, because they will be hated for it. Although of course they will whine it’s someone else’s fault.
So apparently Leavers are simply followers, they’re ugly and whiny? Nice.
I bet you blame that burst of insults on last nights results. Because normally you wouldn’t stereotype an entire subsection of society right?
(I never get the whiny thing. It is literally always Remain complaining about something hence the reason we haven’t left)

InTheHeatofLisbon · 27/05/2019 08:27

Farage was the only person standing for what the majority of Britons want

England and Wales. Not Britain or the UK for that matter. NI and Scotland both had significant Remain majorities.

For the millionth time, England is not Britain, nor is it the UK as a whole.

borntobequiet · 27/05/2019 08:28

Leave spin: combined hard and soft Brexit votes higher, Leave, without a deal if one cant be struck.
Remain spin: combined soft Brexit and Remain votes higher, Remain unless someone can sort out an acceptable withdrawal agreement.

The first carries the risk of trashing the economy. The second doesn’t. Which one would a sensible government go for? (Warning: not all governments can be trusted to be sensible.)

Littlewhitedove · 27/05/2019 08:29

That's not correct though is it? My son has a 1st class honours in Politics and just explained this to me:

Leave:
Brexit Party- 31.6%
UKIP- 3.3%
Tories- 9.1%
Total- 44%

Remain:
Lib Dems- 20.3%
Greens- 12.1%
Plaid- 1%
SNP- 3.5%
ChangeUK- 3.4%
Total- 40.3%

Who knows:
Labour- 14.1%

Divide the Labour vote in half and you get (roughly) a 52/48 divide in the country... people have now for the 5th time in 5 years said they want to Leave, how can some people still not see that?!

InTheHeatofLisbon · 27/05/2019 08:29

Dismissing him as an idiot is stupid. Open your eyes.

I didn't. I implied (and believe) that people voting for him are not very clever.

I'm not dismissing him, he's a very dangerous, divisive and manipulative man. If anyone thinks he's looking out for anyone but himself or his own ego and agenda, then they aren't very clever are they?

PostNotInHaste · 27/05/2019 08:30

Well quite obviously the turquoise party have ‘done well’ considering they are a ‘new party’ but they aren’t, just rebadged as that Yaxley bloke turned the purples toxic and lost his deposit. It’s so obvious my cat could see it and quite frankly he’s a thick twat.

It’s a bit like the Emperor’s New Clothes.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 27/05/2019 08:33

Isn't that the definition of every politician

Well aye Grin

But some are better than others. I'd rather shite in my hands and clap than agree with Farage.

InTheHeatofLisbon · 27/05/2019 08:34

It’s a bit like the Emperor’s New Clothes

It's exactly like the Emperor's New Clothes! What a brilliant analogy!

RandomlyChosenName · 27/05/2019 08:36

The question is... did anyone who wants to remain, vote Conservative?

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 27/05/2019 08:40

Let the people have a choice and let's include everyone over 10-our children are intelligent and better educated than any other generation

I'm a rampant remainer and would welcome another vote - but like hell do I trust a 10 year old to make an important decision like this. Fucks sake.

BeerandBiscuits · 27/05/2019 08:42

Good grief, talk about clutching at straws Grin.
Mumsnet spin doctor at it again.

DizzySue · 27/05/2019 08:43

That means more people want to remain in Europe than Leave.

That's incorrect.

People support and vote for parties for a whole host of reasons, it's not just about Brexit.

When is was just about brexit (referendum) the majority of people voted to leave the eu.

DuckWillow · 27/05/2019 08:43

LittleWhiteDove

That’s not strictly true though is it?
What was the turn out for voting?

If it was less than the Referendum (it was) then those figures cannot be compared. Frankly I’d expect a graduate with a 1st class honours degree to understand that too...clearly not. I suspect here his desire to Leave is clouding his intellect.

I still say we cannot just crash out with no deal and Nige has no plans or policies to address this.

flashbac · 27/05/2019 08:43

Can people just remember that turnout was APPALLING LOW.
People couldn't be bothered to vote because they don't understand what the EU elections are.
This is not a vote for leave.
Obviously Brexiters are going to be more motivated to vote because they are more mobilised about not getting their way yet.

PostNotInHaste · 27/05/2019 08:44

Anytime anyone types Garage’s name on here his social media team rub their hands in glee and more rubles fly into the bank. #EmperorsNewClothesParty

Just saying.

Gone2far · 27/05/2019 08:45

Layla Moran, Lib Dem, is saying it right now...that the Remain parties have a larger vote share and that it should be put to the people. Is she thick too?
As she is the woman who claimed that she could 'see into the souls' of transgender people recently, I think the answers a resounding 'yes'

AlaskanOilBaron · 27/05/2019 08:45

Littlewhitedove you can't presume all Tory voters are Leavers! Your calculation is deeply flawed.

I think, equally, there's a problem with assuming all Green voters are Remainers - I think in just the past six months there's been a seismic shift in the way people are viewing climate change.

In general, the Greens are a bit of a joke and I wish there were a right-wing party on offer that was as dedicated to environmental issues.

Aberforthsgoat · 27/05/2019 08:45

@dana28 I voted Remain and I voted for Lib Dem’s - it was a tactical vote for my area. I think you’ll find a lot of people did the same, tactical voting for more remain seats - a vote for change UK in my area would have been wasted.

Hollowvictory · 27/05/2019 08:45

Leave are winning. Brexit party got more seats than anyone else so far!
