They're stretchy and comfortable, not because they're "sexy"?

I am UK size 6/XS/XXS (depending on the brand) so I look rather good in leggings, with no lumpy bits and I am a jogger so have firm legs but I don't wear them because they are sexy. They are comfy and great when I am moving around. Love the VS Pink ones. The cheap brands make my skin feel weird after a while like I just want to get rid of them and take them off immediately. Diesel and VS Pink are really good.

glennamy · 27/05/2019 17:50

Not my cup of tea but each to their own... Hope they are not the thin material type or buys a size smaller than then really need as they are like tights when the people who buy like this and everything is on show, which is not pretty!

Lydja · 27/05/2019 17:54

I am a legging convert... I used to think weird things about people who wore them as trousers... but currently 29weeks pregnant and have been living in them for about a month now. My jeans don’t fit anymore and I can’t justify spending €40+ On a pair of jeans I won’t wear longer then just a few months... also size wise they’re is just nothing to find jeans wise for me..

Birdsonginthetrees · 27/05/2019 17:56

Haven't read full thread but it depends who is wearing them and how they're worn.

Young women with incredible figures wearing them with crop tops look nearly naked and definitely seem to be wearing them to be sexy.

Those of us with squishier bellies and older bodies are (usually) wearing leggings with bum covering tops to be comfortable.

Every time I see one of those young women showing off their bum in leggings I marvel at that fact that they don't mind everyone seeing them nearly naked. Don't they realise the people behind them can see every tiny naked-looking jiggle or wobble? Do they want everyone in M&S to be intimately familiar with their bum shape?!

Nephilim1964 · 27/05/2019 17:57

I wear them because they're practical, comfortable and don't need ironing. Plus I can wear big jumpers over them in the winter and cotton dresses in the summer. Nothing at all to do with being sexy.

ChocOrCheese · 27/05/2019 18:02

I don't wear them because they're sexy (are they???) but for comfort. I hate having bare legs and if my top/dress is above the knee I would always go for a thicker fabric rather than sheer tights, which can look a bit too dressy for the top. My legs are in pretty good shape up to mid-thigh so the fact that they are tight fitting does not bother me. All the sins above are hidden under the top/dress.

EntirelyAnonymised · 27/05/2019 18:11

I spend 80% of my leisure time wearing sports leggings (running tights/yoga leggings), even when not doing sport/activity. They are comfy and practical. They are obviously very fitted (and you can see my ‘bum shape’) but they aren’t lip reading tight, those are just a bad fit, imo.

I look fine in them. I’m not a teenaged Victoria Secret Angel or a fitness model but somehow no one throws themselves into traffic to get away from the sight of me.

I don’t wear the other type of leggings and it would never occur to me to wear them in lieu of tights.

YoniHuman · 27/05/2019 18:17

I wear leggings under a dress if it’s windy outside (and I live on the coast so that's a lot). Trousers and jeans on me are unflattering & uncomfortable. I stopped wearing them 5 years ago and don't miss them at all.

LiquidSwords · 27/05/2019 18:18

It's a bit like saying "I don't wear a bikini because it's 'sexy', I just wear it because it's comfortable and keeps me cool" yet men are quite capable of going to the beach in loose shorts, just as they rarely wear skin tight clothes to the gym or to go for a run, etc.

Teacher22 · 27/05/2019 18:22

I wear them for painting and gardening. I am not big but they are very unflattering. Sexy is the last word I would use to describe leggings.

Libloo · 27/05/2019 18:23

Hi any humane suggestion? I have a number of cats that walk along my wooden pann el fence which is not an issue in itself but I often see the cats with birds or other critters dangling i from their mouths which I find upsetting to see, do you know of any thing I can do to stop them walking along my fence, I know it's a cats nature to kill but I hate that's I can't help but see it, thank you.

Numbersaremything · 27/05/2019 18:25

Libloo I suggest you pop a pair of leggings, preferably thin, cheap & white, at their access point to frighten them off. (You may wish to start another thread!)

S1naidSucks · 27/05/2019 18:25

Libloo You need to start your own thread and be prepared for some vicious cat haters to get involved.

S1naidSucks · 27/05/2019 18:26

Numbersaremything Should they not be tiger print? 🤣

I don't know where all the "never seen leggings under a dress " lot are living.

di2004 · 27/05/2019 18:34

I wear them because they’re comfy and look good with different tops.. hard to get a pair though that fit perfect as I’m only 5’1” but they’re spot on!

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 27/05/2019 18:36

They're not sexy unless you have a perfect figure. Most women who wear them don't. It is a comfort thing.
I have one pair but I don't wear them often as I'm not comfortable in them. They're not cotton ones. I'm not keen on leggings. I used to wear them with tunic dresses back in around 2007 but that's not my style now.
They're not supposed to ge a sexy item. They might have been marketed once as being sexy but not nowadays.

user1472482328 · 27/05/2019 18:39

Who on earth thinks wearing leggings is sexy?

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 27/05/2019 18:40

&@libloo*

You can buy strips to attach to the top of your fence. I'm not a cat hater in the slightest but if it bothers you enough they sell them on Amazon. Personally I wouldn't do it myself.

manicmij · 27/05/2019 18:41

I don't wear leggings as I hate wearing shoes especially heels with bare feet, and those footsie things are useless.

LiquidSwords · 27/05/2019 18:41

If it's purely comfort why don't men wear skintight trousers?

Chobotfan · 27/05/2019 18:44

What do you guys think of gym legging though? in terms of it being 'sexy'?

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 27/05/2019 18:45

I wear leggings all day, every day - because they're what I'm comfortable in. I wear with long jumper dresses and boots in the autumn/winter, long tops/dresses in the spring/summer, even my pyjamas are legging bottoms. Yep, definitely because they're comfortable, stretchy and versatile (plus I don't give a hoot what anyone else thinks of me wearing them haha)

Aimily · 27/05/2019 18:48

If it's purely comfort why don't men wear skintight trousers?

Just asked dp, he actually grabbed a pair of my clean, damp leggings off the airer put them on and said they are comfy, then he squatted and said it's a bit restrictive around his balls and he said the vpl from his boxers was a bit stupid... He did make a point about cyclists though and the shorts they wear, they must be comfy for cycling.
I tried to take a picture but he bolted upstairs...

BunnyJumps · 27/05/2019 18:51

I have worn them because I could not get my jeans on and because they are very forgiving with a long jumper!
