They're stretchy and comfortable, not because they're "sexy"?

If it's purely comfort why don't men wear skintight trousers?

I imagine because
a. They don't want to walk around with their meat and 2 veg on full display to everyone
b. Because they don't want their bollocks crushed to oblivion

Ohyesiam · 27/05/2019 19:00

My teenage dd looks sexy in leggings, apart from the stupid tick that all her clothes seem to have on them.

Craftycorvid · 27/05/2019 19:04

To those who claim never to have seen a woman wearing leghings under a dress: where do you live?! It’s totally a ‘thing’ wherever I go, most likely as it’s practical and comfortable. Personally, I like 3/4 length under summer dresses as ankle length (particularly in dark colours) can look a bit odd. I wouldn’t wear leggings just with a top except for the gym because I think it looks a bit like you’ve forgotten to finish getting dressed. I do have a male friend who has been known to ‘mansplain’ to me that men don’t find leggings sexy; he’s a nice chap otherwise so I let him live.... and ‘womansplain’ to him that we don’t dress exclusively for the male gaze.

A PP asked about Joe Browns - essentially their style is like Per Una on hallucinogenic drugs! Think lots of ill advised applique and embroidery. I do have one or two of their tops Blush but in calmer colours and designs. They also seem to use lots of synthetic fabrics that feel a bit itchy.

ForalltheSaints · 27/05/2019 19:08

Men who want comfortable clothes because they have put on weight wear tracksuit bottoms. Which look awful usually.

riverislands · 27/05/2019 19:08

Because they've put in half a dress size and their jeans are tight?

Oh, ok, that's just me 😄

Branleuse · 27/05/2019 19:12

I wear them to keep my legs a bit warmer or more covered, and to make sure my knickers dont show in short dresses as soon as i bend down sorting out dogs or kids. They are uber practical, longer lasting and more comfortable and more opaque than tights. I pretty much live in them all year round, except for about 2 months in the summer where I will go bare legged

Branleuse · 27/05/2019 19:13

Leggings are comfy, but skin tight trousers are not comfy. Not the same thing

Liketoshop · 27/05/2019 19:13

Like them on winter with a v long high neck sweater and never any other way but why oh why do women wear them like trousers with short top especially when exceptionally overweight? They aren't flattering.

Polarbearflavour · 27/05/2019 19:19

I wear leggings under dresses all the time.

susan82 · 27/05/2019 19:19

I wear them for comfort, never given a second thought to what they may look like!!

Ever heard of Max Wall?

MumNeMum · 27/05/2019 19:29

I wear them if I'm wearing a top which would not look right with jeans underneath, but I still want something to cover my white, hairy legs, and tights look OTT in summer or sometimes too formal.

Mominatrix · 27/05/2019 19:30

I agree. I only wear 2 kinds of leggings. The first kind are for exercise and they are worn for function. The second I wear are leather ones in winter and I don't wear them to look sexy - i wear them because they are very comfortable and warm.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 27/05/2019 19:34

I didn't know leggings were considered sexy. Yes, I wear them as they are comft. Doubt anyone would find me sexy in them anyway Grin

Dora26 · 27/05/2019 19:35

The trick with leggings is never to let the "camel's toe" show - I nearly chioked laughing when my friend said this - but it's true - leggings only look good with a long top/dress/tunic. Personally I love them n the depths of winter with a woolly tunic/long sweater and boots.

Did anyone read the letter from the Mum of 3 sons in US to the girls in their college - basically stop wearing leggings and tempting my innocent boys. It was about 6 months ago - I couldn't believe what I was reading. Apparantly EVERYONE wore leggings into college afterwards!

Natstar98 · 27/05/2019 19:41

I love wearing leggings because they are comfy around my hips and back (I suffer chronic pain). I'm slimish, but always wear a top long enough to cover my arse and camels toe. For some weird reason my DP finds me sexy in leggings, but I definitely don't wear them for that reason!

nevernotstruggling · 27/05/2019 19:44

Who thinks leggings are sexy?

Exh used to say I ruined dresses by wearing leggings with them.

HelloooCanYouHearMe · 27/05/2019 19:46

I hadn't realised the hate surrounding leggings until I went to a clients house (I'm a cleaner) and heard my client shout at her dd "get those bloody leggings off, you look like a fucking pikey!" Then turned to me saying "Doesn't she Hellooo She wants to actually go OUTSIDE looking like that!"

While I stood there in my Asda leggings

SpaceCadet4000 · 27/05/2019 19:49

I mainly wear them for manoeuvrability. Often female clothing items have really poor range of movement, so if I'm doing anything that involves lifting, reaching, running etc I'll do it in leggings so I can be useful. I won't ever do the dress with leggings look though!

wonderingsoul · 27/05/2019 19:52

I never had the confidence to wear leggings before I met my other half, but he make me feel good about myself so now I live in them..

Funny thing is he cant stand leggings, he does t find them attractive at all Grin

Jean's feel weird and odd now, Iv always had a sensory thing to clothes. And leggings relief this and i feel good in them, allways wear with a tunic m/skater dress.

angelfacecuti75 · 27/05/2019 19:54

I wear them because usually the dresses I buy might be a bit short on their own and to cover me up. They are also comfy and go with many things. I don't think they're particularly sexy they are just stretchy (good for fat people like me), are inexpensive and cover me up more...

redspider1 · 27/05/2019 20:09

I have never thought sexy and leggings in the same thought....

redspider1 · 27/05/2019 20:11

But would never wear them with a top that didn't cover my bum. They are handy under a tunic dress that is too short for work.

AxCap · 27/05/2019 20:20

I'd never wear them under a dress, didn't realise that was still a thing. They are comfy though and I'd normally wear them to the gym but now I've got some nicer 'gym' pairs I sometimes wear them out with DCs to whatever we're doing just with a tshirt.

Not sure if DH would call them sexy in general but he loves my bum in them so I probably do wear them more and then deliberately bend over in his eye line

Polarbearflavour · 27/05/2019 20:23

What’s wrong with dresses and leggings? It’s hardly like Mumsnet is Runway magazine. Miranda Priestly won’t come along and shout at you!
