To think most women wear leggings because...

They're stretchy and comfortable, not because they're "sexy"?

I don’t wear them as I have chunky legs but I can understand why lots of women do. I think ‘sexy’ is irrelevant; they’re comfortable and practical. The only objection I have is clearly seeing someone’s undercrackers through cheap, overstretched fabric.

shiveringtimber · 27/05/2019 09:56

I have great legs and love to show them off but I always make sure my bum is covered.

shiveringtimber · 27/05/2019 09:57

I'd never wear leggings with high-heels though. Just ballet flats.

dudsville · 27/05/2019 10:30

There's nothing I actually wear in the hope that it makes me look sexy. I didn't know that until just now. I do hope, think, I have some appeal, but I just wear things to flatter... is that the same as sexy?

cccameron · 27/05/2019 10:38

Do people honestly wear leggings under dresses? I've never seen this. Surely it just looks incredibly frumpy? Like something in a Joe Browns catalogue!

It was a thing for a very short time (thank god) in the early 2000s. Honestly haven't seen anyone wearing leggings under a dress for many years.

Littlechocola · 27/05/2019 10:44

For the gym only. Definitely not ‘sexy’.

Icecreamcake86 · 27/05/2019 12:13

I personally dont like leggings I think they look frumpy...but on the other hand people might think that my clothing choice is hideous! But..wear what you like and what feels comfortable 😎

fedup21 · 27/05/2019 12:14

I don’t wear things because they’re sexy, I wear them because they are comfortable.

ShoshanaC · 27/05/2019 12:36

...they want to.

(Can't be bothered to RTFT).

LassOfFyvie · 27/05/2019 13:42

Completely different fabric, completely different levels of stretch, restrictive around the gusset, even as a short person the crotch aims for my knees, leggings don’t roll down, they don’t make my feet sweat, they’re breathable and don’t trigger thrush If I wear them for a few days running

The only pair of leggings I have ever owned (bought to wear under a wrap around dress) were vile for most of the reasons you list. Saggy, slipping, rolled down, didn't fit, uncomfortable at crotch .

I've never had those problems with tights. Presumably you are unaware that high denier winter wear tights are often cotton with a touch of elastane?

Pinkvoid · 27/05/2019 13:45

Definitely not sexy, just comfy. I only wear them in the house.

DarlingNikita · 27/05/2019 17:17

YANBU. I've never thought they might be sexy. I like them for comfort and ease.

HippyMama90 · 27/05/2019 17:25

Some people look good in them, not me, although hubby is always telling me I look sexy in them, I think he needs new glasses.

Day to day they are comfy and look casual which for me (and the vast majority of people I think) is what I'm looking for, being sexy is far from my mind when I'm running round after kiddos.

jackie1212 · 27/05/2019 17:29

I got to 50 and have developed horrible lumpy bits over my knees that look awful in leggings, this is after lots of cycling, but still love leggings, just going for thicker and thicker ones.

MummasTheWord · 27/05/2019 17:30

Definitely for comfort! I have suspicions that some mums wear activewear as they are comfy/squeeze you in nicely and unlike PJ’s, are acceptable to wear on the school run with no make up/hair scrapped back as people assume you are off to the gym...when you’ve actually just not had enough time to spruce upGrin

Mumluv2 · 27/05/2019 17:34

This is hilarious. Haven't worn leggings in 3 yrs as I was pregnant then...... But Saturday 25th May just gone I put them on. Not for any other statement then I've a masso hangover and a 3 year old who can't appreciate what spice girls in Croke Park emotionally was...... That's my only excuse for them 👍👍👍👍👍

Inertia · 27/05/2019 17:34

Another who wears leggings under a dress, instead of tights. Leggings don't have feet so don't do that annoying thing of disappearing down your legs so you end up with knee-crotch, they are soft cotton so not sweaty, and you can wear socks with them.

Don't care if anyone thinks they look frumpy- especially not tights apologists!

BackBoiler · 27/05/2019 17:36

They are more sexy than joggers Grin

grannieali · 27/05/2019 17:37

What is wrong with stretchy pull on straight legged pants?. Now more stylish than leggings. Or even wider legged pants ditto?. The ad. sent in is horrific. Her bum certainly looks big in those. No accounting for tastes.

CalendulaAndRoses · 27/05/2019 17:37

i LOVE leggings with dresses or skirts. Far comfier than tights (ugh that super tight waistband trying to cut me in half) and amenable for those of us with IBS related fluctuating waist measurements who can't wear jeans as a result.

Zoejj77 · 27/05/2019 17:37

I would never think of leggings as sexy they are like a most basic of clothing items

75Renarde · 27/05/2019 17:37

Good God. What. A. Thread.

Wear what you fucking want. And we wonder why women are discriminated against.

We are way to busy discussing absolutly pointless arguments on MN.

Qweenbee · 27/05/2019 17:38

I suspect that whoever said they are sexy are referring to the skin tight lycra sports leggings that the youngsters with good figures might wear, with nothing converting their arses. Then they look sexy. I don't think the leggings that middle aged women wear with longer tops/dresses even register in their tiny minds.

LiquidSwords · 27/05/2019 17:42

Loose jogging trousers are comfier. Nice and soft! But people don't think they look as nice, I guess. So I think people are choosing leggings for their appearance.

confusedat30 · 27/05/2019 17:42

They really aren’t sexy unless you are a gym bunny with an amazing figure. Which is why I don’t wear them. I like to look sexy as often as I have the time to make the effort
