To think most women wear leggings because...

They're stretchy and comfortable, not because they're "sexy"?

pigsDOfly · 26/05/2019 20:05

I own one pair of leggings and they are for exercise only.

I've got nothing against them, although, definitely don't think they're sexy, but I think they can look good with a skirt or dress, it's just something I wouldn't wear.

However, I have to wonder how many women wearing leggings without the dress covering are aware that often everyone can clearly see the colour and shape of their knickers as some leggings seem to be no thicker than opaque tights.

Having your knickers on display through your clothing is really not a good look.

tomtom1999xx · 26/05/2019 20:06

I wear them because my legs are awful Grin

Spudlet · 26/05/2019 20:06

He believes women wear them to tease men.

It's an oddly self-centred worldview some men have, isn't it? 'Ah look, that woman who is a complete stranger has clearly chosen her clothing just for me, because I am the centre of the fucking universe!' I bet they park like total fuckwits as well, and elbow their way to the front of queues.

ShoshanaC · 26/05/2019 20:07

Leggings are NOT in the slightest bit "sexy". What a ridiculous thing to say! Confused

Jellykat · 26/05/2019 20:10

Definitely not sexy...I wear leggings under dresses as am no way showing my bare varicose veined legs!! What else can i wear in summer? tights?

Completely agree about seeing knickers on display under leggings, i see it so often, and not a good look.. i'd never wear leggings without a decent arse covering over the top.

Anniegetyourgun · 26/05/2019 20:11

Well, given that some men seem to think we have chosen to grow boobs specifically to attract them, putting on clothing for that purpose seems quite a reasonable belief by comparison.

Pharlapwasthebest · 26/05/2019 20:13

@CRbear
Nope, I have good legs and I’m not conscious of them at all, but I work with small children, and I often end up crouching down or sitting in the floor. Leggings with a dress/tunic top are just more comfortable and practical

Afternooninthepark · 26/05/2019 20:16

Depends on who’s wearing them and how. I wear them every day as I am a dog walker and team them up with a denim shirt or boyfriend t shirt, wouldn’t even think about calling them anything other than comfy. My 21 year old niece has a fantastic figure and will wear them extra tight with a cropped top, I am sure that would be classed as ‘sexy’!

CRbear · 26/05/2019 20:16

@Pharlapwasthebest makes complete sense, but looking at this thread I’d say you’re in the minority. Very handy for your situation. I don’t know any primary teachers which might explain why I haven’t encountered that use.

Jenasaurus · 26/05/2019 20:17

My sons Ex used to wear tights instead of leggings. They were virtually see through. She had a fab figure but they looked rude to be honest. She wore them at night inappropriate times too. But she also wore high stilettos and a clinging mini dress on a submarine visit. Everyone else was in comfy clothes and she got stuck on the ladder to enter the submarine.

Moonface123 · 26/05/2019 20:18

Should have typed ideal under dress when cycling, alot more comfy than jeans. As for sexy, if your comfortable in your own skin, you can feel sexy in anything. Don't take yourself too seriously. 😀

gamerwidow · 26/05/2019 20:18

Im quite sure most teenage girls/young women with good figures wear them to show off the shape of their bum and/or legs
And that’s ok.

Chouetted · 26/05/2019 20:21

I wear leggings and dresses/tunics/skirts all day. Mostly because I detest tights.

I wouldn't wear them without the dress, it just shows too much for me to feel comfortable. I've seen far too many women with massive cameltoes and visible knickers. Somehow it just looks worse to my eye than if they really were strolling down the street naked.

OneStepSideways · 26/05/2019 20:23

Well I think they're a sexy look if worn without a tunic over the top, if you have a large toned bottom. Perhaps best kept for the gym or a party though.

Worn under a tunic they're practical and more comfortable than jeans.

I think they look daft under a knee length or longer dress or skirt, unless they're the fine seamless ones that are more footless tights, and worn with boots so you don't see the gap between legging and shoe!

crispysausagerolls · 26/05/2019 20:27

But there are leggings and there are leggings! Activewear leggings are bloody amazing - flattering; a thick material and great for when you don’t know what to wear.

Those thin cotton leggings which go vaguely transparent over your bum and are hideously unflattering/on the verge of flashing arse at people should be outlawed 😂

Grumpos · 26/05/2019 20:27

Well some of the women at my gym definitely look attractive in their leggings but we’re talking proper gym leggings with bodies that they work hard on in said leggings. Under those circumstances they can look really nice. For majority of women it’s comfort and ease factor isn’t it. Men can make even the most boring, comfortable items creepy can’t they Confused

MissKittyBeaudelais · 26/05/2019 20:29

I wear them for walking the dog in my wellies or trainers. I don’t look good in them but they wash n dry so quickly and yes, they’re comfy. I’m a bit fat but really, who cares?

musicalmrs · 26/05/2019 20:33

I wear leggings most days under skirts or dresses. I'm a very cold person and wear layers all the time - it takes a high temperature for me to go bare legged under a skirt/dress! They possibly look like tights a lot of the time.

I never wear them on their own - and on me they're definitely not sexy! They're just more practical, warmer and comfier than tights on a day to day basis.

ooooohbetty · 26/05/2019 20:33

I know of women from 'reality' shows who wear them because they've had massive arse implants and can no longer get normal trousers that would fit them. I wear them in winter with big jumpers and boots. Very comfortable.

SadOtter · 26/05/2019 20:37

I wear leggings at work under dresses because I work with small children and it prevents accidental knicker flashing, means I can crawl round on the floor, climb up the climbing frame etc. They also don't get ruined by the carpet as quickly as tights do. Lots of primary school and pre-school staff wear leggings. Teenage sister wears them to school in the winter because she hates tights, lots of school girls round here do.

There are very few women who can look sexy in leggings.

RainbowWaffles · 26/05/2019 20:39

Depends who is wearing what leggings and how they are wearing them.

You can immediately tell if a legging wearer’s intention is one of ‘look at my sexy ass’ or ‘leggings are stretchy and comfortable’.

Langrish · 26/05/2019 20:40

I wear them to distance walk. Too cold for shorts and “walking” trousers rustle and get right on my wick,

Makirocks23 · 26/05/2019 20:42

I wear them under dresses and skirts as I hate my legs, I dislike how grumpy trousers make me feel and they hold the rest of my bulges in a bit. I Also have two young children who like pulling at my clothes so leggings mean I don’t accidentally expose myself Grin

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/05/2019 20:44

I wear exercise leggings which are different to other leggings. Different material and often compression leggings. I wear a tank with them and a hoodie to go to and from the class.

CAMAM · 26/05/2019 20:47

Please tell me where to buy good support leggings? Arthritic too. Thank you.
