They're stretchy and comfortable, not because they're "sexy"?

I have worn leggings under dresses or tunic tops for years because I dress for myself and think they suit me. Then a few months ago I discovered Snag tights and my leggings are seeing less and less daylight. I cannot recommend Snag highly enough.

Purpleartichoke · 26/05/2019 21:01

Ding ding ding

Leggings on my body are the opposite of sexy. I wear them because they are comfortable. I generally wear them with long shirts to camouflage just how bad they look on me.

mathanxiety · 26/05/2019 21:02

OP Apparently because they cling to our bodies we might as well be naked with leggings on. How can that not be deemed sexy? Every woman knows this who puts leggings on surely?

EskewedBeef What's this about?

On the subject of "sexy harlot mantempting trousers of sin", here is one recent news item that may have inspired the OP:
www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellievhall/notre-dame-leggings-mother-sons-letter-editor-protest

A mother’s letter published in Notre Dame’s student newspaper urging the university’s young women to stop wearing leggings went viral this week — and students organized pro-leggings protests in response.

In a letter to the editor titled “The Leggings Problem,” printed in the Observer — the student newspaper for Notre Dame and neighboring schools St. Mary’s and Holy Cross — Maryann White lamented the popularity of the tight-fitting garment amongst the women students of these three Catholic colleges.

White wrote that while attending Mass at Notre Dame’s Basilica of the Sacred Heart during her last campus visit, she and her sons sat behind “a group of young women, all wearing very snug-fitting leggings and all wearing short-waisted tops (so that the lower body was uncovered except for the leggings).”

She described the young women as looking like “the leggings had been painted on” their “blackly naked rear ends.”

“I was ashamed for the young women at Mass. I thought of all the other men around and behind us who couldn’t help but see their behinds,” she wrote, imploring the female students to cover their “nakedness” so that “unsavory” men wouldn’t ogle them and upstanding men like her sons wouldn’t be forced to avoid looking at their nether regions.

“Leggings are so naked, so form fitting, so exposing. Could you think of the mothers of sons the next time you go shopping and consider choosing jeans instead? Let Notre Dame girls be the first to turn their backs(ides) on leggings.”

goose1964 · 26/05/2019 21:04

I wear them with boots instead of tights

Itssosunny · 26/05/2019 21:05

Some should see themselves into the mirror before going out wearing leggings.

Numbersaremything · 26/05/2019 21:10

Itsso why?

Mummyshark2019 · 26/05/2019 21:13

Not Olivia Newton john in grease here. Big fat frump but I am comfy. So that's all that counts.

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 26/05/2019 21:14

He believes women wear them to tease men.
Grin I thought we had moved on from the cave man ,
I wear black leggings (and black baggy t-shirt) as being overweight nothing else fits me. I hate being fat and I have a wardrobe of lovely clothes from two stones ago that I'm hoping to wear again! Hmm

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/05/2019 21:16

To me leggings are “house clothes”, respectable enough with a big jumper or t-shirt if someone knocks on the door, but never worn further than the bins. Definitely not sexy.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2019 21:20

For the pp who said theyve never seen legging with a dress-well it doesnt make it true just because you havent seen it

And if i look terrible so be it im past caring now

LassOfFyvie · 26/05/2019 21:20

I don't buy anything on the basis of it being sexy. If anything my style is prim and proper. I don't wear leggings because they are hideous.

GabsAlot · 26/05/2019 21:22

I hear you @coffeecoffeetea

LassOfFyvie · 26/05/2019 21:24

I wear leggings and dresses/tunics/skirts all day. Mostly because I detest tights

I'm mystified why if someone hates tights they wear leggings instead. Leggings are just much thicker tights.

SinkGirl · 26/05/2019 21:25

I saw some young ladies out and about recently in crop tops and shiny leggings (yes, I did feel like I was back in the late 80s). I was very jealous of their young flat stomachs that have never housed a couple of babies at the same time. I guess maybe that’s what people mean when they talk about leggings being sexy.

I wear leggings under dresses because even though I’m 5’2” I can’t wear dresses any more without flashing my arse every time I bend over to wrangle a toddler. I don’t understand it at all - even knee length dresses. This didn’t used to happen, maybe it’s just that I didn’t notice as I didn’t have to bend over all the bloody time before. Given the wildness of my bikini line I think it’s much fairer to the world that my arse is covered in leggings.

I’m pretty sure no one would class my standard issue seasalt tunic dress and leggings as sexy.

NameChangeNugget · 26/05/2019 21:26

They are anything but, sexy...

“Drunk people, children and leggings always tell the truth”

CoffeeCoffeeTea · 26/05/2019 21:26

Thanks GabsAlot

SinkGirl · 26/05/2019 21:26

I love leggings and jeggings and hate tights. Tights are so uncomfortable and restrictive.

UtterlyPerfectCartoonGiraffe · 26/05/2019 21:29

I often see a woman at school pick up time who wears veeery thin black leggings, thin to the point where you can see the pattern on her knickers. I find them neither sexy nor unsexy but I am fascinated by her pineapple print keks and want some. I can never ever ask her though, in case she doesn’t know her leggings are see through.

LassOfFyvie · 26/05/2019 21:30

Do people honestly wear leggings under dresses? I've never seen this. Surely it just looks incredibly frumpy? Like something in a Joe Browns catalogue!

I don't know what a Joe Brown's catalogue is. Yes people wear leggings under dresses. I think leggings are hideous if worn as a replacement for trousers but they are fine under things like wrap around dresses.

The leggings under dresses combination is very popular with Danish and Dutch female cyclists. You will see loads of it in Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

LassOfFyvie · 26/05/2019 21:32

How is one nylon or nylon/cotton mix or cotton garment with legs more restrictive than another one just because one has feet at the end of the legs?

Gillian1980 · 26/05/2019 21:36

Leggings are all about comfort for me, I’m not remotely sexy in them!

I just wear them under dresses as they’re comfier than tights and there’s no way I’d go bare legged.

Karwomannghia · 26/05/2019 21:38

I remember when we wore leggings, mid calf leggings and then cycling shorts in the 90s. When they went I never expected to see them again but they’ve been worn again for ages now! I also remember jeans under dresses. I think leggings are on borrowed time now.

Cryalot2 · 26/05/2019 21:39

I rarely wear them , never track bottoms and not often jeans.
I tend to wear footless tights for warmth with a dress in winter but maybe I am odd .

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/05/2019 21:40

I wear leggings under dresses. I had to for many years as my dd used to get underneath me / inside my dress for several years and would have exposed me a number of times. Now they’re a pretty much a uniform for me under dresses. No way would I ever wear them without something else covering my arse as a minimum.

They’re not sexy. They cover the lumps and bumps on my legs.
