To be told regularly and often that you look 17/18 at the age of 34.

I get the same thing all the time! I take it as a compliment.

MammaMia19 · 24/05/2019 14:41

im early 30s and would be THRILLED if someone thought I looked 17/18. yabu!

Crustaceans · 24/05/2019 14:42

In my mid 30s I was amused (and kind of delighted) that people still asked me if my parents were in when I answered the door. I took full advantage of pretending that they weren’t.

Pipandmum · 24/05/2019 14:42

Uh try being 57. I’d be thrilled if someone thought I was 10-15 years younger!

LaurieFairyCake · 24/05/2019 14:43

Yeah I'd like it NOW (at nearly 50)

WhitePhantom · 24/05/2019 14:44

How in god's name is it not a compliment???

Would you find it more complimentary if you told you looked 51/52??

S1naidSucks · 24/05/2019 14:45

I’d be delighted if one one said that I looked like I was 50!

I’m 51. Sad

S1naidSucks · 24/05/2019 14:45

Someone even. 😁

SupaNintendoChalmers · 24/05/2019 14:45

It would definitely be meant as a compliment so I'd take it that way! Enjoy the genetic gifts you have been blessed with!

redexpat · 24/05/2019 14:45

I never enjoyed it when I was in my 20s. I dont understand the compliment thing. I dont want to look like a teenager I want to look my age.

PinkGlitter123 · 24/05/2019 14:46

People just make such a big deal out of it, doesn't help that I am petite and slim too. Just want to feel like a woman and not a little girl. A customer the other day (Probably a few years younger than me) was outside the door after speaking to me and said 'That young girl was adorable! Bless her!' Not how I want to be perceived although I know it could be a lot worse.

LucyAutumn · 24/05/2019 14:46

It's supposed to be a compliment but shock at my actual age often makes me wonder whether it's because people find me immature Blush

Crustaceans · 24/05/2019 14:46

I got IDed in Morrisons a few months ago. I was delighted. The woman who IDed me realised it was totally unnecessary immediately, such was my joy.

Conks · 24/05/2019 14:46

I’m 42 but look early thirties. I hate it as DH is older than me so the age gap looks bigger than it is

DesperadoDan · 24/05/2019 14:47

It’s a massive compliment!
When I was 18 I looked 30, now I’m 43 I still look 30. Features haven’t changed and I’ve barely any lines thanks to very oily skin. I’m lucky that I’ve got good cheekbones with a good coating of fat over them and a strong chin, I was once told I have good scaffolding. Long may it last Grin
These threads sometimes don’t go down too well so beware.

S1naidSucks · 24/05/2019 14:47

Oh my heart bleeds for you.

littlepeaegg · 24/05/2019 14:47

I get this a lot too. I often get mistaken for a student at the school I work at. I'm 30.

I don't really care anymore! I just laugh it off.

GreytExpectations · 24/05/2019 14:48

How on earth is that not a compliment?! People love being told they look younger than they are! I've often been mistaken for being much younger than I am and I love it! I'm only in my late 20's now but this continues as I age...

GreytExpectations · 24/05/2019 14:49

doesn't help that I am petite and slim too

Oh you poor thing! How ever do you manage? Hmm

Isthisafreename · 24/05/2019 14:49

@WhitePhantom - How in god's name is it not a compliment???

How is it a compliment though? Why is looking young something to aspire to? I think it's very shallow thinking and it annoys me when people tell me I look too young to have a 21 year old or that I must have started very young (I'm 55 so I wasn't exactly a child when I had him).

Mumble29 · 24/05/2019 14:50

take it as a compliment! although I was in 2 minds wether to be flattered/pissed off when the woman at the checkout in M&S wouldn't sell me a bottle of presecco cos I didn't have any ID.
I'm 43...Thought she was taking the piss at first, apparently she wasn't, had to walk to Aldi to get a bottle lol!

I used to get that at similar age. It has its uses, but it can be really annoying when people assume you’re very young and start patronising you, or worse fobbing you off because they think you’re too young to know any better.

HollowTalk · 24/05/2019 14:52

What are you meant to say though if someone says, "I know I look young for my age" but you actually thought they were much older? That's happened twice lately and it's hard to keep a straight face.

GreytExpectations · 24/05/2019 14:53

I think you are reading way too much into it. People do like to look younger, that's just the way it is and yes it can be vain but get off your high horse with this "its so shallow" talk. Some people look young due to good genes, others eat well, exercise and have a good skincare routine. Therefore the compliment makes sense.
