To be told regularly and often that you look 17/18 at the age of 34.

I used to get this a lot in my 30’s.
It’s obviously nicer to look younger and I prefer it to the alternative, but it can be annoying and embarrassing.

I don’t announce my age, not because I’m ashamed, but because people make such a big deal out of it which is embarrassing. I’m mid 40’s now, I’m guessing I probably look more like an old looking young person and I certainly don’t go round expecting people to be aghast at my age, but my age recently came up in context of a conversation, the man i was talking to then proceeded to call everyone over in what felt like a 10 mile radius, to ask them to guess my age.
I’m 45 year old female not an exhibit in a museum for people to scrutinise, but you have to be a good sport whilst people are eye balling you and guessing your age. obviously people aren’t going to say ‘nah you look about 50 luv’ and you have to wonder if these people think I’m a bit delusional, which just makes the whole situation more cringe worthy.
Realise this is a first world problem and everything, but looking young[er] isn’t all it’s cracked up to be Smile

This happens to me, I absolutely bloody hate it!! "Oooh Sharon guess how old Ori is..." "Steve, Steve! Have a guess go on, guess how old Ori is, you'll never guess!" While I sit there like a lemon feeling like a circus freak. Fuck off Karen.

I’m fairly quiet unassuming person, It is so embarrassing when people do it and I can’t think of any other physical feature where it would be appropriate to parade you in front of people and ask them for feedback.

Thecabbageassassin I totally agree I'm the same. Although I've had it with my white legs too, I can't imagine it's ever be acceptable to say "oooh look how awful and brown your legs are" so not sure why it's ok to say that about fair skin. Confused

KnittingForMittens · 25/05/2019 17:07

I never used to, but now it does not bother me.

Notashandyta · 25/05/2019 17:32

I was getting id'd until I was 39, a teacher with 3 kids of my own! I was semi-pleased semi- irritated. There's worse things to happen to you really- surely!

And a reminder that is is asked for anyone they think looks under 25, so it's not necessarily that think you look 17...

Notashandyta · 25/05/2019 17:33

Oh, and I'm 5.10" so don't really agree it's anything to do with being 'petite.

Last thing- I'm forty now and have aged overnight. Pretty sure 39 was the last time it will happen to me!

PinkGlitter123 · 25/05/2019 17:58

Yes its the being paraded around like a circus freak show and everyone gawping in shock. Staring and saying how they just can't believe it and how is it possible 😐. Being spoken down to and patronized. Being asked out on dates by 18 year old boys who think I am their age and not being able to buy wine/go to pubs without hassle. Just to name a few negatives, there are plenty more.
Looking super young doesn't equal pretty at all. Definitely not in my case, I just look like a child.

I know what you mean - it feels patronising. Like they're saying you look like a kid not a woman.

Sparklfairy · 26/05/2019 12:13

Just got ID'ed and told I look a teenager, so people in their 30s can look young!
