AIBU to think it's perfectly fine to not shower everyday?

The Loose Women were mortified when Stacey Solomon and Saira Khan revealed that they did not shower everyday....the latter only once or twice a week. AIBU To think it's fine not to shower every day? I certainly don't unless the weather's dead hot. Surely got to be good for the environment, water bills and skin to not be running the shower everyday. False vanity by the Loose Women maybe?

I think showering everyday is necessary. You need to remember that you and those living with you may have become noseblind to smells emanating from you!!

mabelmylove · 23/05/2019 11:34

Once or twice a week is pushing it I think. But I don’t think it’s necessary every single day unless you’re getting sweaty every day. I have a very sedentary job and rarely exercise so I am happy to skip a shower occasionally if I want a lie in or can’t be bothered in the evening.

Damntheman · 23/05/2019 11:55

Every day is not necessary for some people. Judging people who don't shower every day is really nasty. Most people who don't shower every day do not have an odour problem.

Alwaysawomantome · 23/05/2019 12:00

I pretty much shower everyday. Sometimes I might skip a day but I do feel hideous by the end of that day. My hair needs washing everyday. It's super thin and frizzy. If I down wash it daily it looks lanky, greasy and no amount of straighteners will get rid of the frizz. That being said, it takes me 15 minutes to dry and straighten it so its not big deal.

PregnantSea · 23/05/2019 12:02

Ultimately it's just about how much you smell. If you smell enough that it's unpleasant for the people you encounter during your day then that means you need to wash more. For some people that means most days, for others 2 or 3 times a week is enough. My DH is one of those magical people who can get away with 2 or 3 times a week. I share a bed with him and we cuddle and kiss a lot and I swear to god he never smells of BO. Not even if you shove your nose in his armpit and take a big whiff (yes we have tried this). Don't know how he manages it. If I skip one day I smell of BO. Obviously I wasn't blessed with magicallly fresh smelling armpits like my DH.

thecatsthecats · 23/05/2019 12:05

I've been trying without success to outrage people for ages on MN with the fact that not only do I not shower daily, I don't use any form of body soap when I do.

I use soap for handwashing, a specific facewash, and shampoo/conditioner. Deodorant daily.

All I do in the shower for my body is give a brisk rub all over with a shower pouffe. I shower 5-6 days a week.

Damntheman · 23/05/2019 12:08

Cats the key to outrage is insisting you don't smell. That's how I managed it :D

photoframe19 · 23/05/2019 12:26

I shower and wash my hair twice a week!(unless there's an occasion in the middle of hair washing days)

Nothing wrong with it, no one has ever told me I smelt I've got a good group of friends who would tell me.

I use deodorant every day so I don't see an issue.

CharityDingle · 23/05/2019 12:55

Also my washing habits are every hour in the shower with a brillo pad and neat bleach. i detach my arse and fanny and boil them in molten zoflora, anything less and you are a disgusting individual

Same here. They melt a bit in the molten zoflora, but all in a good cause.

Yura · 23/05/2019 13:25

The thing is, if you shower every day and wash your hair every day, you strip your skin and hair of all its natural protective mechanisms, so you end up having to continue with that regime. if you don’t (but wash!), you are in much less need

Excited101 · 23/05/2019 13:32

I don’t shower every day, every 2-3 days usually though sometimes more and sometimes less. I don’t smell, some people are just less smelly than others!

Jinglejanglefish · 23/05/2019 13:37

photoframe19 are you just putting deodorant on top of days old deodorant, or do you at least rinse your armpits?

photoframe19 · 23/05/2019 13:43

@Jinglejanglefish nope don't wash my pits so yes I suppose I am putting new deodorant on top of old deodorant.

Delatron · 23/05/2019 15:15

Well I had no idea that some people didn’t sweat and don’t have BO...

In the name of research I tried this ‘strip wash’ thing today after an exercise class
and getting sweaty in the sun. I feel rank.

Just get in the shower people. Even if you
miraculously don’t sweat ever your arse and fanny will honk. I’m sorry.

The pouring the jug over your fanjo on the loo takes the biscuit for the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read on mumsnet.

You can all make all the excuses you want but you basically can’t be arsed getting in the shower and getting wet all over.

mollyblack · 23/05/2019 15:24

I shower every other day. My hair is very fine and greasy and if it is even near the shower it needs washed again and i seriously cba washing and drying my hair every day. I don't smell but i have a wash at the sink.

Plinney · 23/05/2019 15:27

Why would you shower every day unless you were doing tough physical work or something similar.

Loose Women : their view of women is a completely sanitised metropolitan botox filler stuffed, media-hag barbie doll. Don't take their shit advice.

HarryPottersSecretSister · 23/05/2019 15:47

I honestly don't understand how people can go without showering every day.

I'd feel horrendous.

I wouldn't share a bed with DH if he didn't shower every day either.

caperplips · 23/05/2019 15:50

I shower every day and I think people ought to!
All you need to do is step into a public toilet directly after another person to know the reason why people need to shower frequently!

I have seen very respectable, neatly presented women emerge from cubicles and I have been next in the queque and nearly retched from the smell of unwashed, sweaty lady parts!

Please wash!!

fairweathercyclist · 23/05/2019 16:00

Not read the full thread but I don't shower every day. It's usually after sport or if I am going out somewhere, so 4-5 times a week. As an example this week I showered on Monday, yesterday, and will do this evening after going out for a run. Probably not tomorrow, but I will on Saturday and Sunday. I very very rarely have a shower without washing my hair, so I wash my hair the same number of times a week.

My mum is in the two showers a day brigade.

fairweathercyclist · 23/05/2019 16:02

??? When I was pregnant I developed a sensitivity to smell and found that female toilets smelled of urine, but that was more of a dehydrated smell ie really strong and I thought "please drink more ladies". But I am not sure what you mean by sweaty lady parts. I have NEVER smelled anything like that, ever.

Delatron · 23/05/2019 16:05

I’ve smelt non washed sweaty lady parts after going in toilet cubicles...

You really need to wash that area daily.

Seniorschoolmum · 23/05/2019 16:07

Yes, Every day. More seems a bit excessive to me

IcedPurple · 23/05/2019 16:15

Mumsnetters must have the most refined sense of smell anywhere. They can tell if someone hasn't showered daily just by being in the same room as them. We had a poster upthead saying she could smell another woman's vagina, even though vaginas don't actually smell.

Thing is, you could get away with hardly ever showering provided you wear deoderant and wash your clothes often enough. On the other hand, even if you shower twice a day you might still 'smell' if you don't wear deoderant or don't wash your clothes very often. Honestly, I'm hardly ever offended by other people's smells in daily life, but I guess I'm lacking the highly sophisticated MN nose.

Delatron · 23/05/2019 16:56

This thread is worse than the strip wash thread! At least people were washing on that. Twice a week?! Not enough!

motherheroic · 23/05/2019 17:45

Can't believe people are on here bragging about not washing their fanny and arse for most of the week.
