AIBU to think it's perfectly fine to not shower everyday?

The Loose Women were mortified when Stacey Solomon and Saira Khan revealed that they did not shower everyday....the latter only once or twice a week. AIBU To think it's fine not to shower every day? I certainly don't unless the weather's dead hot. Surely got to be good for the environment, water bills and skin to not be running the shower everyday. False vanity by the Loose Women maybe?

I shower everyday, but I'm in Australia so its more needed!

Strugglingtodomybest · 23/05/2019 00:42

I think it's so individual it's hardly worth discussing. One of my friends at uni was horrified to find out that I don't shower every day, but after living together for 3 years it was obvious that I sweat a lot less than her.

I try and shower every day now, but mainly to wake myself up!

Oh, and my friend apologised to me once she realised that, shock, horror, everyone is different.

OP, you're right:

I dont if I'm on a day where I dont have to go out and see anyone, if I'm a bit under the weather or ill etc. If I'm on an early shift I shower before bed and just get up and dressed in the morning rather than shower. I feel minging if I don't shower generally though. I have very fine hair that gets greasy very quickly, and I just prefer feeling clean and smelling nice.

OkPedro · 23/05/2019 01:19

I’m laughing so hard at a pp who would try to shower after “having a dump” fuckn hell that’s extreme! But then said they’d settle for baby wipes! Madness

Treaclepie19 · 23/05/2019 07:00

@Tingface the fact that it's an OCD (diagnosed) issue should've given you a clue that it's not rational...

cherryblossomgin · 23/05/2019 07:20

I don't shower daily because I am up at 5.30am and live in a flat. I don't want to wake the people below me. I don't smell. I do have a wash every morning though and one at night if I feel sweaty. I only wear pjs and clothes once then they are straight in the wash.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 23/05/2019 07:38

I don't shower daily. Some people on here shower 3x daily and think anything less is rank but I think it's a terrible waste of energy and water.

motherheroic · 23/05/2019 07:49

The question isn't if you shower everyday, but if you do anything inbetween? Do you sink wash or just leave your fanny and ass completely unwashed. That's what's disgusting to me.

mondaybluesgoaway · 23/05/2019 07:55

I have a bath nearly every evening, and usually a shower on a morning too. I wash my hair every 3 days depending on work (and how hot it has been). To be honest, the bath isn't because I need to get clean, I just find it relaxing.

batshitoldbat · 23/05/2019 07:59

I agree motherheroic!

Delatron · 23/05/2019 08:05

Agree about the ranky sleep smell and we’re not all that different. Private areas will smell, sorry. Some may sweat slightly more than others but everyone will smell better if they just hop in the shower for a couple of minutes.

mydogisthebest · 23/05/2019 08:23

I shower every morning and wash my hair (it's very short). I shower because it wakes me up, my hair sticks out everywhere and it is as quick to wash it as it would be to try and wet it down. Also I feel sweaty and a bit dirty when I wake up.

I am not sure it is necessary to shower every day but it does depend how active someone is and how much they sweat.

What I don't get is Stacey Solomon saying she doesn't have time for a shower but washes instead. How is that quicker than a shower?

I have times myself in the shower and it takes me 4 minutes max and that's washing my hair too.

There was a previous thread where posters said you could not possibly shower in that time but you definitely can. Some posters say they are in the shower for 15 to 20 minutes which is ridiculous

Tweedledumanddumber · 23/05/2019 08:29

There was a thread about not showering everyday a few weeks ago and in MN world you can smell if someone has "only" washed, and not showered from about 20 paces. Everyone you come across who ever smells , only smells like that because they didn't have a shower this morning not because they might not have washed their clothes.
When i was growing up we didnt have a shower in the bathroom and we didnt bath everyday but I'm pretty sure we didnt smell. i wont mention when we went camping and didn't shower for 4 days

ChipsAreLife · 23/05/2019 08:35

I exercise pretty much everyday so have to shower or I'll stink.

I think once a week is grim! Every other day is fine if you're not getting dirty or sweaty. I find hair can start to smell as it holds things like cooking smells

BonAccordSpur · 23/05/2019 08:41

I love to shower briefly (1-2 mins)couple of times a day-we all say 'im just having a rinse off' be it sand or sweat-whatever..cold showers3/4 of year as QLD is hot most of time..each to their own surely.

lboogy · 23/05/2019 08:43

I amazed at how some people are proudly declaring that they don't shower. How gross.
Is the same underwear being worn for 2 days or turned inside out for extra wear? Confused

ethelfleda · 23/05/2019 08:48

Why can’t some people grasp that not everyone sweats the same? Or not everyone has body odour or not everyone gets really greasy hair? Why can’t you trust grown adults to know that is best for them with regard to hygiene?
I don’t know about you, but it’s very very rare that I ever smell that whiff when someone desperately needs a shower. And you’re not telling me that everyone I know/come into contact with showers every single day?

bibbitybobbityyhat · 23/05/2019 08:48

I think it's perfectly fine not to shower every day too. But I do think a "good wash" as my Grandma used to say is essential. In the cooler weather I probably have on average 5 showers a week and I like a long 15 minute shower. I shower every day when it's hot.

Aprillygirl · 23/05/2019 08:59

I used to shower daily, just because it was the done thing, until about my mid twenties when I got very busy with a young family and started to skip the odd day and noticed that my dry skin improved and lo and behold people in my vicinity didn't recoil in disgust or drop down dead from the fumes emancipating from my rancid body. So I thought why waste the time and energy and am now a filthy soap dodger 3/4 days out of 7. I do wash my legs when I shower though so swings and roundabouts.

RussellSprout · 23/05/2019 09:30

@Kennehore

*sometimes I wash my undercarriage with a jug of hot water

Isn't it easier to just get in the shower at that point? Do you stand in the bath with the jug or what?*

Nope, I sit on the loo and use the jug to rinse my bits, it goes straight into the loo and I don't even have to take my pants off! Its quite effective.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/05/2019 09:42

🤢

zingally · 23/05/2019 10:14

I go through phases of showering every day, and phases of not. In the summer, when you've sweated, or had suncream on, it's great to wash it all off, or if I've been outdoors all day, I like to wash.
But if I've just been loafing around at home all day, unless I particularly fancy a shower, I won't always.

I only wash my hair twice a week. Otherwise it turns into a massive frizzy mess.

Loyaultemelie · 23/05/2019 10:18

I have had one shower in 15 weeks and that was in a hotel. However when I don't have broken knee and complications I like to bath daily (not great for the environment but we are conscious in other areas). Now it's strip wash a few times a day.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 23/05/2019 10:37

OMFG - the jug/under-carriage/loo is just 100% pure goad 😂

As ever, MN is a window into another world. I'd never heard of 'strip washing' until I came on here.

Just get in the shower.
