AIBU to think it's perfectly fine to not shower everyday?

The Loose Women were mortified when Stacey Solomon and Saira Khan revealed that they did not shower everyday....the latter only once or twice a week. AIBU To think it's fine not to shower every day? I certainly don't unless the weather's dead hot. Surely got to be good for the environment, water bills and skin to not be running the shower everyday. False vanity by the Loose Women maybe?

I wash my hair once a week and shower twice a week. I always get compliments on my hair and skin.

If I were to shower daily I’d feel dry and horrid.

DameSquashalot · 22/05/2019 22:07

I sweat loads at night. Sometimes I have to get changed during the night. I can smell my BO if I don't shower, so I wouldn't impose it on other people.

Snowy111 · 22/05/2019 22:08

To those that think they would smell if they don’t shower every day - use soap in your pits instead of shower gel

Every other day for me, plus extra if I’m sweaty from exercise

Barbie222 · 22/05/2019 22:09

This again!!!! Even the phrase "pits and bits" is starting to make me want to heave now.

Sparklybanana · 22/05/2019 22:12

The guys who have to shower every day smell because their bodies are constantly trying to remoisturise their skin. Same as hair. It over produces oil if you wash it too frequently. Shower if you must but it’s better to shower every other day and then you wouldn’t be so stinky (after a while)...Grin

Tingface · 22/05/2019 22:14

Treaclepie
During my period I shower every morning at minimum... and also wash my hair every time on those days (cross contamination issue...)

Um... what?

justrestinginmybankaccount · 22/05/2019 22:14

@Barbie yessss! I got three pages in and can’t take anymore “pits and bits” it just sounds so manky.

Isn’t doing a “pits and bits” wash at the sink just as time consuming as 5 mins in the shower, and less likely to get water all over your bathroom floor?

I had a thyroid issue for a while and once medicated correctly, I realised my sense of smell was back - except I didn’t even know it had gone Shock I can smell now, and people smell, all these people saying they don’t wash and don’t smell... I have my doubts!

SallyWD · 22/05/2019 22:15

Everyone's different. I need to shower every day. I'm very sweaty. I don't know why! Perhaps because I'm always on my feet. By the time I'm about 22 or 23 hours after my last shower I feel really grimy and smell sweaty.

calpoppincalpol · 22/05/2019 22:15

Seems to be quite a few skanky unwashed people on here.

DameSquashalot · 22/05/2019 22:15

I've been using soap for the last few months. It makes a bit of a difference, but not enough.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 22/05/2019 22:15

Even if it’s the case that you cant smell your own BO (I definitely can!), this thread shows that there’s decent proportion of people who don’t shower every day.

I don’t encounter a similar number of co-workers, fellow travellers, friends or families who are absolutely humming with the smell, so I imagine most people wouldn’t reek if they didn’t shower daily, as long as they hadn’t excersised and they’re wearing clean clothes.

Tingface · 22/05/2019 22:17

Different people’s sweat smells different. It’s to do with the individual mixture of bacteria in each person’s armpits, apparently.

So one person will reek after a few hours, another can go a few days.

TL/DR: we’re all different.

Bedforaweek · 22/05/2019 22:22

I live in london and am on and off buses and tubes etc .
I shower in the morning - but could survive without if needed. But I have to shower every night.. I cannot imagine getting into my nice clean bed with all that grime on me and sweat etc.
I feel so much better after a shower

BadLad · 22/05/2019 22:26

Every day here. I think people who don't are revolting.

notso · 22/05/2019 22:31

I shower most days but on a normal day I wouldn't feel unhygienic if I had to skip it and just have a wash where as if I couldn't brush my teeth or wash my hands I'd feel grim.

SerenDippitty · 22/05/2019 22:34

I shower every day - but I don’t think I really NEED to. It’s just habit.

Squigglesworth · 22/05/2019 22:38

People should shower as often as they (individually) want/need. Some might be able to shower every other day (or less often) and be fine; others need at least a daily shower to feel clean.

Personally, I'll very occasionally skip a day (no time, too tired/sick, etc.), but I really feel much better if I shower every day. So that's what I do. My skin and hair are coping, our bills are well within reasonable limits, and I don't feel that I'm killing Mother Earth through excessive showering.

lotusbell · 22/05/2019 22:50

Yay, it's been at least 3 days since we last had this discussion...

Likethebattle · 22/05/2019 23:08

This again 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄 you must wash every day whether you think you’re sweaty or not. A shower or a wash at the sink is a minimum. Some people smell ‘musty’ and I assume it’s from being unwashed. A lovely girl at work has awful BO and says she can’t be bothered showering dailyif this conversation comes up....ffs love we have to sit in close proximity! Wash yourself every day ( I also do my hair daily but it seems to pick up smells through the day from cooking etc)

BadLad · 22/05/2019 23:10

Yay, it's been at least 3 days since we last had this discussion..

You're a shoes-on house, aren't you?

Likethebattle · 22/05/2019 23:11

Also my washing habits are every hour in the shower with a brillo pad and neat bleach. i detach my arse and fanny and boil them in molten zoflora, anything less and you are a disgusting individual

TurquoiseAndPurple · 22/05/2019 23:25

I don't shower everyday. I know lots of people. Who don't shower everyday and lots who do. They all smell the same to me 😂

Lockheart · 22/05/2019 23:39

Sometimes I shower twice a day, sometimes once a day, sometimes every other day. Depends what I'm doing. I notice no difference. I don't feel "rank" or "disgusting" if I don't need to shower for a day.

I have a pretty keen sense of smell and the vast, vast majority of people I encounter during my day - in the shops, on the tube, in the office, on the bus - don't smell. I can't believe they all shower every day.

This is one of the things some posters on MN get very wound up about and I don't understand why.

As long as I can't smell them I don't care when or how someone bathes.

FIRSTTIMEMUMMA81 · 22/05/2019 23:46

Asgoodastinafey: 'Claim to wash their hair every day'?

I wash my hair every day and shower ever day, my husband showers twice a day. I could not get dressed in clean clothes not having showered... in the winter, I have a bath every night too. My skin is fine and not dry. That's what moisteriser is for.

Gross.

My husband is reading a book at the moment about being a better boss blah blah, and in it it asks 'would you tell someone if they smell?'... why should we have to, go wash yourself!

FIRSTTIMEMUMMA81 · 22/05/2019 23:49

Also, that RANK sleepy smell... if you haven't showered that morning, you are the one that smells like your sleepy bedsheets and is fucking rank. It makes me feel physically sick when you can smell someone who has rolled out of bed.

This is an actual thing. SHOWER.
