AIBU to think it's perfectly fine to not shower everyday?

The Loose Women were mortified when Stacey Solomon and Saira Khan revealed that they did not shower everyday....the latter only once or twice a week. AIBU To think it's fine not to shower every day? I certainly don't unless the weather's dead hot. Surely got to be good for the environment, water bills and skin to not be running the shower everyday. False vanity by the Loose Women maybe?

In this day and age, you should be showering every day if you are physically able to and have access to one.

No, in this day and age we should be more environmentally aware and only shower when we feel like we need to,not just for the sake of it or because some bossy individual tells us we should.

floribunda18 · 24/05/2019 04:43

Quite right. Ditto washing or cleaning anything around the house. Wait until it's actually dirty before it needs washing! Behaviour change can be difficult, but it isn't impossible.

Snowy111 · 24/05/2019 06:36

Some people think it’s just heating water that consumes energy, but a huge amount of energy goes into cleaning water and pumping it to the places that need it, not just in homes but before it gets to homes. So we shouldn’t waste water.

Soap is more effective than shower gels for cleaning properly and avoiding smells.

But for those of you who can smell vaginas I have no idea. Maybe people should scrub themselves with bleach? MN never ceases to amaze meHmm

Strugglingtodomybest · 24/05/2019 07:03

Judging people who don't shower every day is really nasty.

Yes it is, particularly when disabled posters have explained why they don't. These threads are always great for showing who the nasty posters are though.

I also feel sorry for woman who think that vaginas smell nasty/vile, that's some major misogynistic bullshit you've swallowed there.

ChillaxingInMyKimono · 24/05/2019 08:07

There are lots of disabled people on here, and lots with caring responsibilities for disabled children and older family members. You are actually being quite offensive now with your ablism. Do you really think that all old people smell

People with mobility issues have strip washes out of necessity.

Sorry, I'd've thought it was obvious I was referring to the able-bodied people coming onto the thread who choose to faff about with a face cloth and a tap, wiping bits of themselves, when they could just get in the shower and actually get clean and refreshed.

catx1606 · 24/05/2019 08:18

"There's also a slight grime on people who haven't washed for a day or two - I am aware of it on a couple of people at work. For example around their cuticles."

My husband is a mechanic and despite showering every day, has grime around his cuticles because engine crease is a nightmare to wash off. We also use coal for our heating and that is a bugger to get out of your skin despite showering daily.

Beamur · 24/05/2019 09:46

I quite like telling clean freaks about my soap dodging habits. I don't really like people who smell very strongly of soap or perfume either.
I've managed to get to an age of maturity without suffering a hideous skin complaint or having people recoil in horror at my stench, despite not showering daily.

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2019 09:59

I don't have a bath in this house, this talk of long soaks is making me nostalgic.
I am having a long weekend away soon, I am very excited about scrubbing the hotel tub, unloading my bag of lovely salts, creams and candles, soak for the weekend.

I wouldn’t light real candles in a hotel bathroom if I were you you might set the smoke alarms off.

SerenDippitty · 24/05/2019 10:05

Some people think it’s just heating water that consumes energy, but a huge amount of energy goes into cleaning water and pumping it to the places that need it, not just in homes but before it gets to homes. So we shouldn’t waste water.

Same goes for washing clothes, apart from underwear. Other than in the summer when it’s hot, and unless it’s actually soiled or stained, most clothing does not need to be washed after one wear. Provided it is hung up and gets a good airing between wears it’s good for two or three wears.

[awaits screams of horror]

Getthepetwet · 24/05/2019 10:11

I still want to know if people are shagging in between these "shower free" days? I literally can't get my head around it.
To pp who suggested sex in the shower, good idea, and has been done, but we still shower for at least 5 mins solo first, and then shower again straight after, so doesn't achieve much and is actually not the most comfortable place to do it, and pretty dangerous... We've had an incident with a stray bar of soap and a smashed shower screen (in a hotel too! 😳)

edgeofheaven · 24/05/2019 10:12

I assume people who don't shower everyday don't exercise much. I have an active lifestyle - play a sport and do gym/running on top - so at bare minimum I'd need 3 showers a week just to cover that.

Delatron · 24/05/2019 10:33

What about in summer when you get hot and sweaty? I just don’t get it.

Aprillygirl · 24/05/2019 10:37

•Some people think it’s just heating water that consumes energy, but a huge amount of energy goes into cleaning water and pumping it to the places that need it, not just in homes but before it gets to homes. So we shouldn’t waste water.•

Not to mention the extra energy used for washing and (possibly) drying those towels. One poster claimed she has two showers daily, using a fresh towel each time!

KimchiLaLa · 24/05/2019 10:38

I would stink if I didn't shower every day and I don't sweat that much!
What about the gym? Surely you'd need to shower after that?

YesQueen · 24/05/2019 11:12

@Getthepetwet sure. No oral though but I don't receive anyway
It's only like having sex at night, falling asleep and then having sex again in the morning

Beamur · 24/05/2019 11:14

I shower after exercise. Went to the gym last night, showered last night. Did not shower this morning and very unlikely that I'll shower tonight. Unless I get very hot during the day. Just had a sniff, I still smell clean.

YesQueen · 24/05/2019 11:14

I think people are thinking it's rigid! I don't shower every other day religiously and nothing changes
If I've been riding or to the gym, I shower. If it's mega hot I will shower. If I'm not leaving the house I won't shower 🤷🏽‍♀️
This morning I showered before work, I won't shower tomorrow morning as I'm going to ride my horse so will shower/bath afterwards

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 24/05/2019 11:20

I shower every morning if I'm going to work or going out (beyond something like nipping to the shops). At weekends or days off if I have no plans to leave the house, I often don't shower. I don't sweat much and I'm not as active as many because of a disability. I use deodorant and wear clean clothes.

I don't wash my towels every day though Grin

Sashkin · 24/05/2019 14:50

they could just get in the shower and actually get clean

You either do accept that strip washing “gets you clean”, in which case who cares how other people get themselves clean? Bath, shower, strip wash, who cares if the end result is the same?

Or you don’t accept it gets you clean (which seems to be the case from your comments, despite your backtracking now you’ve been pulled up on it), in which case you are saying disabled people are all dirty and smell, but we should make allowances for the poor dears since they can’t help being yucky and dirty. Normal people have no excuse so should shower. Grossly, grossly offensive.

Nolar · 24/05/2019 15:48

I wash twice a day during the week as I have a job where I get dirty and then also exercise afterwards. Just depends what your doing, if your not sweating much or getting dirty, your not going to be honking after a day of not showering.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 24/05/2019 15:53

In this day and age, you should be showering every day if you are physically able to and have access to one. No excuses.

All these attitudes, along with the daily towel washers and users of pre-wet wipes for everything, make me feel like weeping for the environment.
Do you think that clean water appears like magic?

thecatsthecats · 24/05/2019 16:05

We had a poster upthead saying she could smell another woman's vagina, even though vaginas don't actually smell.

I can smell my own on, ah, occasions.

M3lon · 24/05/2019 16:41

OMG what the fuck is WRONG with people?!?!?

People are DIFFERENT. They have different skin, different skin bacteria, different hair, different chemicals in their sweat, different sweat production and live different fucking lives!

There are people who can jog for half an hour and not smell afterwards. There are people who smell after a few hours sitting in an office doing nothing much (which sucks for them btw!). There are vaginas that smell and vaginas that don't...and some that smell sometimes and not others.

There are people who can shower and people who can't. There are people who would like to shower more often than they can, and people who really don't need to shower much at all and could probably just stop wasting water.

People are different. GET THE FUCK OVER IT.
