AIBU to think it's perfectly fine to not shower everyday?

The Loose Women were mortified when Stacey Solomon and Saira Khan revealed that they did not shower everyday....the latter only once or twice a week. AIBU To think it's fine not to shower every day? I certainly don't unless the weather's dead hot. Surely got to be good for the environment, water bills and skin to not be running the shower everyday. False vanity by the Loose Women maybe?

I couldn't function without showering every morning. I'd also stink, but my main reason for showering every morning is to wake me the fuck up. I love the feeling of standing in the shower and gradually waking up. Nothing nicer on a cold winters morning than jumping into a hot shower, one of life's gifts I feel 😊

Tinkobell · 22/05/2019 21:02

@Getthepetwet.... you clearly have an enviably active sex life! Have you considered sex in the shower and preserving spontaneity and halving your current water consumption 😁. ?

Depends on age and activity. Fine for a lot of sedentary adults (though I’d feel uncomfortable but that’s just me). If active teenagers don’t shower every day they can get niffy/oily.
Once a week is pretty grim though, whatever your stage in life. We were bathed once a week when I was a kid in the early /mid 60s and the water was filthy, black ring round the bath that wouldn’t budge without VIM.

Thatsnotmyotter · 22/05/2019 21:03

I haven’t showered properly for about three weeks. Our hot water pump is broken so I’ve been having kettle and flannel strip washes most days (do a lot of running cycling and absolutely have to wash after that for obvious reasons but don’t always feel the need to on non training days) with the occasional hair wash. I smell fine.

Calloway · 22/05/2019 21:03

Would MN even exist anymore if there wasn't a 'how often do you shower?' thread constantly on the go?

Tiredmum100 · 22/05/2019 21:04

I need a shower every morning to feel ready for the day. I hate not showering every day. I have had two showers today as I've literally being sweating my arse off in work today. Sometimes I will miss a day but that's very unusual really.

Thatsnotmyotter · 22/05/2019 21:06

Also sex-wise... do you think you have to be spotlessly clean to have sex? There is nothing wrong with a bit of primal, sweaty, grimy sex.

YANBU - it’s not healthy to shower or bathe every day.

Yes it is, perfectly. In some circumstances absolutely vital. MIL has early stage dementia and related personal problems. She finds it difficult to shower or bath or just forgets. She’s constantly in and out of hospital with UTIs because she doesn’t keep herself clean. Consultant advised showering at least once daily, more as necessary.

Nothing wrong with showering.

Why? I shower every day. I am perfectly healthy. I have healthy skin, no skin conditions etc. How is it damaging me?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/05/2019 21:12

I need a shower to wake me up in the morning on work days. At the weekend if I am not going out I will often have a bath in the afternoon, then a quick shower to wash hair. During my period I tend to shower again after work because I sweat more then.

HoustonBess · 22/05/2019 21:18

Ah another one of these.

Your body adjusts its oil levels depending on how much you wash. If you wash every day your body ups it's oil production so you will feel gross if you miss a shower.

If you only wash once a week your oil production slows down so you won't be 7x as oily as a habitual daily washer going without a shower for a week.

So basically whatever habit you adopt, it's fine so long as you don't smell/have hygiene that risks your health (either too clean or to dirty)

I guess The Loose Women, Stacey and Saira are media personalities who are up close and personal on a TV set (in summer now). If someone told me I was going to be in a TV studio, giving interviews etc, on reflection, I probably would shower everyday. I shower every other day, when I wash my hair.

Not so during teenage years.

fikel · 22/05/2019 21:32

Bath helps me sleep at night and soothe aches and pains- I jump in after my DDs been in and a shower in the morning. I get sweaty and like to feel fresh

cookiechomper · 22/05/2019 21:33

Yes I need a shower daily. I have a quick bath in the morning and a longer one at night. It's not the end of the world if someone doesn't shower regularly but they would probably smell. I'd also feel gross getting up and just putting on my clothes.

VetOnCall · 22/05/2019 21:33

It wouldn't be fine for me, I shower twice a day pretty much without fail. I go for a walk or a run with the dogs most mornings so shower after, but even without that I still couldn't get on with the day without a shower. I then have another in the evening, if we're going out obviously before that, otherwise between walking the dogs again and having dinner. If I'm not washing my hair I'm in and out in a couple of minutes. I'm not a particularly sweaty person but I'm very active and I like feeling clean and fresh. Even on a day where I wasn't doing much I'd feel grubby without having a shower though, putting clean clothes on an unwashed body would be weird to me.

smellycandle · 22/05/2019 21:34

I can't believe how many dirty people there are in this world... absolutely gross not to shower every day.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that you can't smell your own body odour only other people can.

I shower in the morning and evening every day without fail.

LRTR28 · 22/05/2019 21:35

Am I the only one who showers every night instead of morning?

Persimmonn · 22/05/2019 21:36

I shower every other day unless it’s really hot. I’m clean, and I keep my bits and bobs clean. Wear clean clothes everyday. But depends what day you’re on MN. I’ve been bullied on another thread because I open the taps occasionally. I’d like to know how often those bullies wash and wash their clothes, flush the toilet etc.

BarnabasTheMaineCoon · 22/05/2019 21:40

I'm going through menopause and exercise a lot. I would ming hard if I didn't shower daily.

gotmychocolateimgood · 22/05/2019 21:52

I love that word, ming Grin
Shower once a day here, sometimes more. Doesn't take long and makes me feel more human.
There are some stinky people around. Sort yourselves out please. It's nasty. My son's nursery key worker had terrible BO and it was just yuck.

Biancadelrioisback · 22/05/2019 21:59

I shower about 6 times a week so pretty much everyday. Wash my hair everyday too. I genuinely smell if I dont. I am a sweaty person. DH could go a few days without a shower and still not smell. Drives me mad!! My hair gets so greasy too, and I've tried desperately to let it 'learn' to cope with every other day but it didn't work. I couldn't meet clients with my hair like that. I used to work in hospitality and no way would I be around food unwashed and with greasy hair.

Beamur · 22/05/2019 22:02

I can't be arsed to shower daily.
DH and DD have sensory issues around water and dislike the feel of water on their skin.
We're a family of happy soap dodgers.
