And if so, how will you vote?
I want to vote tactically against the Brexit Party so I am thinking LibDems. But knowing mn and it’s very politically engaged (not to mention intelligent) posters, I thought I would put this out there Wink

It depends which website you go with.
The one fun by Gina Miller says LibDem outside of Scotland and Wales. www.remainunited.org

Actually, it looks as though that website has been updated since yesterday. My region now says greens or LibDems.

I did a postal vote for Lib Dems. My DH did the same.

WorriedMutha · 21/05/2019 13:03

I'm a Labour member but will be voting Lib Dem unless the Gina Miller advice changes. It's a bit tiresome listening to the moans about the coalition. No one says they can't vote Labour due to Iraq or winter of discontent. You've got to play the hand you've been dealt.

DarlingNikita · 21/05/2019 13:08

I'm wavering a bit, having read a thought-provoking Zoe Williams piece in the Guardian today www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/may/21/remainers-faith-vote-labour-corbyn-brexit

Particularly the points about the elections being of 'pressing, concrete importance for Europe’s future direction' and the 'need to at least plan for the possibility that these MEPs are in for the long haul.'; and that, although in fragmentary style and slowly, the party is moving: Corbyn committing to a confirmatory vote, Sadiq Khan vowing to 'campaign “day and night” for remain', Keir Starmer gunning for a final say referendum.

I'm wondering if not voting Labour on basically anti-Leave, anti-Corbyn principles might be shooting myself and Remain (or at least a confirmatory vote) in the foot.

Really conflicted...

Wakemeuuuup · 21/05/2019 13:12

I'm voting LibDem. I see this election as an opinion poll on Brexit. The main thing is for more people for pro remain parties than pro Brexit parties as this means the government can't keep saying the people want the hardest Brexit possible.

Takeittotheboss · 21/05/2019 13:42

DarlingNikita, these elections (in the UK) are primarily a means to show the feeling of the country towards Brexit. A vote for a fence-sitting party like Labour instead of an unequivocally Remain party like Lib Dems or Greens just muddies the political water.
A strong Labour vote will just encourage Corbyn and his ilk that people approve of their current Brexit thrust and not that they need to move position to Remain or a People's Vote.

WorriedMutha · 21/05/2019 14:00

Another thing about voting Labour, you will be classed as the 80% of people who voted for a party pledging to honour Brexit in their manifesto. God that bugs me no end.

DarlingNikita · 21/05/2019 14:02

I don't disagree, Takeit, and that's exactly why I was initially planning to go Lib Dem.

But this article HAS made me stop and think again. And I worry that voting Lib Dems might dilute the non-Brexit Party vote and put some wind in Farage's sails.

4cats2kids · 21/05/2019 14:14

Former labour voter

Still trying to make my mind up whether to vote Lib Dem or Green

toomuchtooold · 21/05/2019 14:17

Postal voter in London, voted Change UK. The remainvoter website was recommending Change UK for London - I think their algorithm is projecting enough votes to protect the existing Green and Lib Dems, but not enough to get another of them, so CHUK is the best bet.

However as I got and sent off my papers 2 weeks ago (overseas voter) I didn't know any of that and just voted for them as the most obvious anti-Brexit party.

BrainScience · 21/05/2019 14:18

My dm was counting postal votes earlier this week. In my area (SW) she said about 75% of the votes were for the Brexit Party. It’s bloody depressing.

themiddlestair · 21/05/2019 14:20

I am spoiling my ballot as I am so disgusted with the attitude of remainers since the vote that I can't bring myself to support their cause.

toomuchtooold · 21/05/2019 14:25

Nikita I would like the Labour party to get in at the next election. I would also very much like to stay in the EU. This time round, I think both those ends are served by voting for Lib Dems, Greens or Change UK. A big swing to remain would give the Labour party a solid gold excuse to change policy to remain if they want to, and they should want to, because for Brexiteers they're third choice after the Brexit party and the Tories. They need a bloody nose at this one. And the Remain parties are all reasonably sensible, it's no hardship to have a few more of them at the European parliament. IMO.

LynseyLou1982 · 21/05/2019 14:28

Yes I'll be voting. I've always voted Labour in the past being a working class northern lass. However, I'm hacked off with both Tories and Labour at the minute so I will vote LibDem

Tavannach · 21/05/2019 14:38

I've read Green for the North West. Is this the best tactical idea

remain voter is recommending Greens for the North West.

Completely agree. Corbyn has ignored the strength of feeling behind the People's Vote march and continues to be wedded to the notion that it is traditional Labour voters in the north who support Brexit despite all the evidence against this.

Shame on them for not being grown up and coming to some sort of coalition of remain parties.

Totally agree.

fedup21 · 21/05/2019 14:44

I have pretty much always voted labour but if labour don’t want to be in the EU, it seems daft to put Labour MEPs there.

I think I will vote Lib Dem. We are in the Eastern region-I wonder how well the Lib Dems will do here??

ChilliMum · 21/05/2019 14:58

Already voted by post. I usually vote green in EU elections but have gone lib Dem this time as I think Labour need to get off the fence and come out for remain or EEA.

I think they are already unnerved at losing seats in the locals, if they lose again at EU elections they will really worry.

I know we are not electing mps but there is definitely a trend of Labour remainers who are politically homeless (and some tory voters) and I think they will consider Lib Dem a more credible threat than Green so a big swing to Lib Dem across the country might just be the catalyst.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 21/05/2019 14:59

Shame on them for not being grown up and coming to some sort of coalition of remain parties.

Why?

This isn't a referendum. It's the European elections. And whilst they might agree on the UK staying in Europe, the remain parties' policies differ quite widely on other issues. And if we do end up staying in the EU for a while longer, surely you want to at least have had the chance of voting for a party that represents your views to Europe.

Tavannach · 21/05/2019 15:02

We are in the Eastern region-I wonder how well the Lib Dems will do here

remain voter is currently predicting 4 Brexit, 1 Conservative, 1 Labour, 1 Lib Dem in the Eastern region. With enough people voting tactically for the Greens it predicts 3 Brexit, 1 Conservative, 1Labour, 1 Lib Dem and 1 Green.

I have to say I don't think this is set in stone - it's a prediction not a guarantee. so in your place I would waver between the Greens and the Lib Dems. (And probably come down in favour of the Greens).

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/05/2019 15:06

Another thing about voting Labour, you will be classed as the 80% of people who voted for a party pledging to honour Brexit in their manifesto. God that bugs me no end

I, purely by coincidence, voted for a remain supporting party

And the 80% bullshit STILL pisses me off

ethelfleda · 21/05/2019 15:11

Agree with this. If we do have another general election before Brexit then that would be different. But this is a clear voice against Brexit, whether you vote green or LibDem I suppose.
